Conditions are not the same for both players at all - some players have their own black cloud that hovers above their side of the court, slows conditions down, adds extra swirling wind, and causes bad bounces...it changes ends with them too.

The players switch sides, and a tennis court is not nearly big enough for there to be a difference between the sides :wavey: The real answer is not all players handle adverse conditions the same, and X-man, who is much more experienced and not as much of a whiner as Djokomug handled it much better.

I don't really get the logic about conditions because it affects both players

Easy, a lot of the top players had a longer clay season and a longer Roland Garros(which was last week). Xavier is a veteran(with a lot of experience), who is a specialist on grass. Dudi Sela, Istomin, Llodra, Fish and Malisse are all players who are well rested and who can play on grass. A lot of them got to this tournament early, played(practiced more) and adjusted with the conditions and the court.

X-Man getting to the QF of a pretty big event, great to see, sort of a flashback to the old times type thing!

Xavier likes the grass so this result isn't too surprising. Since Nole's serve is now below average and he plays pretty defensively now, a guy like Malisse can dictate points right from the get go off the return and force Nole into bad positions.

Nole's serve simply isn't good enough right now and his movement on grass isn't on the level it is on hard or grass, making him very suspect to losing to any high level grass court player. Obviously, the windy conditions couldn't of helped him and his serve today either.

Doesn't seem as if Nole is likely to make a good run at Wimbledon. Sad to see how diminished he is as a player as of right now.

I didn't see this match, but when Roddick was out I had a bad feeling. I really believed this would be the day for upsets, and it looks like I was right. Roddick out, Djokovic out, Murray maybe out. Rafa three sets, but at least he won.

Hmm, it's starting to get very interesting before Wimbledon. All the top players have disappointed in one way or another. I guess the only favorite left playing REALLY well is Federer. All props to him. He deserves it.

BTW: Who is this Malisse guy? I don't think I've heard of him before, and how did he manage to beat Nole? Did Nole play bad and Malisse really good, or both?

Nah Roddick has just not played much tennis at all in these past couple of months and this is what hurt him. I am sure he will do better at Wimbledon but I do not see him winning the title anytime soon. His form is way off and I do not see him getting it back for Wimbledon.

As for Nole, the conditions were tough out there, he played against a veteran who is very comfortable on grass, and well lets face it he has not been himself in quite some time.

Malisse is a former top 20 player(2002 was his best year) and a huge talent who has had various injury problems over the years. He is a serious underachiever who's best surface is grass/hard. He made the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2002.

it doesnt matter who he plays against if a player is playing well. he'll win if a player is poor, but if he shows grit, djokovic starts playing poorly. it is quite clear he has problems dealing with pressure. Id even go as far to say that his physical problems are connected with pressure. and considering he has breathing problems, a term 'real choke' springs to my mind. sadly and bit funnily at the same time.

There are many tennis players in the top 500 who would give anything to be in a position to "choke" as much as dokovic, ivanovic and jankovic. Lets see, 2 grand slams and countless masters titles. Not bad for a young bunch which is still developing. Have a look at federer's early years before he began his dominance. Eventually he became a completely different player. Give them time.

It's just a leveller. Obviously you have to reign in your game in extreme winds and so it takes away what makes a top player "top". And if they don't, then it will just be UE after UE unless your name is Anna Kournikova.

Nonsense, their culture is well known for nuanced concepts like 'zero tolerance', '3 strikes & you're out', 'go get it', 'winners & losers', 'shoot first, ask later', etc. Well, I've lived there for 5 years and acknowledge some of them are different, but they mostly migrate elsewhere or are stars in a film shown in Sundance. ;)

And the rant went on,the presser had to be taken off the Davis Cup site because it was too harsh but it went public and Djokovic heard all about it.Seemingly,Fed wasn't too happy because Djokovic was huffing and puffing between points and then running like a gazelle during.Well personally I think that's a cheap shot from "Mr Sportsmanship".The kid had just turned 18 and his sinuses were a lot worse back then even than they are now.He had the surgery on his airways at the end of that season so this incident was prior but I suppose that minor detail didn't interest Fed.How demoralising to be that trash-talked by the World No. 1 when it's not like you've even done anything to warrant it(please do refrain from shouts of "Faker" in response,I'm quite sure he didn't fake his own surgery).Funny how the AO 08 quote is constantly bandied round but we never hear any mention of this.Selective memory much??

federer and djokovic dont like eachother just like nadal and soderling dont like eachother.
they try put put a brave front like everything is fine, but deep down there is hatred.

the djokovic family dont really like federer and federer dont like novak djokovic either.

djokovic's mother said ''the king is dead'' after novak beat fed in the aussie open 2008.
she said novaks dad said that novak shall never lose to federer again after the 2007 us open final.

then in monte carlo 2008 the ball was called out, but the ball was just in and the djokovic family said something to federer like ''lier'' and federer told the djokovic family to ''be quiet okay''.

3rd set - Malisse: 78% 1st serve, Djokovic: 67% 1st serve... 3rd set & match goes to Malisse.

Hmmm...the guy's wasting waaayyyyy too many time on those ridiculous parodies. Should focus more on WINNING matches.

He parodies Nadal, Nadal's busy winning majors..7 and counting.

I don't really get the logic about conditions because it affects both players

exactly it's like saying "it was really rainy on my side of the court:rolleyes:"

federer and djokovic dont like eachother just like nadal and soderling dont like eachother.
they try put put a brave front like everything is fine, but deep down there is hatred.

the djokovic family dont really like federer and federer dont like novak djokovic either.

djokovic's mother said ''the king is dead'' after novak beat fed in the aussie open 2008.
she said novaks dad said that novak shall never lose to federer again after the 2007 us open final.

then in monte carlo 2008 the ball was called out, but the ball was just in and the djokovic family said something to federer like ''lier'' and federer told the djokovic family to ''be quiet okay''.

nah...they kept on telling nole to challange

Not funny anymore.

When was it ever?

Oh, it was hilarious once. Back in the days before GM turned into a no fun zone :tears: You might not remember those times.

Actually, it's just as well that the mods shut the Haha! thread. I'd never have time to keep up with all these losses.

Apparently Nole was whining about the conditions in his presser.

Serbia's Djokovic, who had his match shifted from Centre Court at the end of another rain-affected day in London, was unhappy at being forced to play on a damp court.

"The conditions were impossible," the 23-year-old said. "Under these conditions, to be able to play a professional tennis match, this is ridiculous.

"A couple of times I could have injured myself, to stretch the muscle or something like that."

instead of impersonating nadal's butt picking maybe djokovic should impersonate nadal's celebration when he wins.
or impersonate nadal's mental toughness under pressure.

that might help him win.

Apparently Nole was whining about the conditions in his presser.
Filip Dewulf explained in his blog that quite a few players in Queens and Birmingham have complained about pain in the lower back, buttocks, thighs,... because those surfaces are a big change from the clay with more strain on those lower regions (not helped by the fact that it's more slippery)

So, perhaps Djokovic was playing more carefully than he would have otherwise, in order to not be injured right before Wimbledon?

Conditions are not the same for both players at all - some players have their own black cloud that hovers above their side of the court, slows conditions down, adds extra swirling wind, and causes bad bounces...it changes ends with them too.

The idea is that in terrible conditions, it nullifies the skill difference between the two players to some extent. It becomes more about who can handle the conditions better, rather than who has better tennis ability. Of course you could argue that handling all conditions is part of tennis ability, but you get my drift...

Remember Fed's Davis Cup comments in 06 long before AO 08."I was glad to shake his hand at the end"(At the net after winning)."He's a joke"

Fed and Djokovic get on fine since 09 and it's quite obvious there is no animosity between them anymore so it's all breezy :Dslightly wrong

Djoker was pulling those antics v Wawrinka and Fed (as well as Stan and whole swiss bench) wernt happy with his antics - match Nole eventually won from the dead

not as if they would be the first or last to think that about Nole

but as you say, they seem to get on ok thesedays

If he can improve that ridiculous serve until HC season, there will be nothing to worry about.

Nole does not look happy on the court

Tennis is overrated anyway....he better enjoy life and do whatever he wants to do and then return whey hungry again
No point in doing something that you dislike if you are not forced to do it and he is a rich man its not like hes playing to bring food on the table

It is funny to read that kind of pompous garbage from a Nole fanboy. He certainly has not achieved more than Roddick. Considering that his major fait d'arme was achieved a few years back and will pretty much be nothing more than yet another fluke win at the AO.

As you say, Federer game got his game together at his age, while Joker's game is going nowhere. A small difference. Another difference between Federer and Djokovic? After winning his first GS, Federer won the next AO and defended his Wimbledon title the next year. So show some respect to Federer.

Now in French, I encourage you to Shut Le Fuck Up.

The facts speak for themselves Rod-duck fan-boy. They both have a GS a peice and are tied for masters titles. Only difference is Nole has achieved this in half the time!

Second, all athletes get into a slump from time to time. Your chronologically linear thinking is not realistic. Third, you have no idea what has caused Nole's current and relative "slump" and owe him the respect of reserving judgment until a few years from now. Take a look at a player like Daveydenko who seems popular here despite the fact that he has achieved much less than Nole, and no one writes him off because of his lack of achievement. Fourth, there is not a more gracious player on the tour than Nole, who shows genuine warmth to his opponents when he loses and does not curse at umpires and coldly congratulate his opponents like Duck. Fifth when Noles serve is on he owns Duck....just please stop
