he has been playing well recently, so touch wood, he can carry that momentum foward and win his 2nd wimbledon title.
hope he gets an easy draw.

Nadal, most likely. Federer is the best grass court player by seom margin, but he's probably not beating Nadal, so he'd need for someone else to take him out. All the bashers who give Nadal trouble on hard suck on grass. Murray is the one with the best chances of taking out Nadal, I think, so Federer should hope that Murray is in Nadals half and that he doesn't mug it up before the semis.

Nadal will win his second Wimbledon, watched him yesterday and boy does he look confident on grass. Even his serve is working, confidence is sky high. No more nerves. Hell he was even serve and volleying like a pro.

nadal is a confidence player, when he is confident he can go on these incredible run, just like when he is not confident he can go on dreadful runs like the 11 month title drought.

its all about belief for nadal.
his confidence will be pretty high come wimbledon i think and if he can survive the first 2 or 3 rounds which are usually banana skins, i think he is the favourite.

of course u can never count out the great man federer.

i have to see the draw.
but going by what i know of nadal and what i have seen SO FAR, i think he has a very good shot at his 2nd wimbledon title.
he will need to be more clinical in his matches.

I was surprised to see many flat forehands from Nadal yesterday. Probably he will try to keep the ball short!? If he try this on Wimby he can reach quarters max. Otherwise semi.
Many players have their chances here but Federer and Roddick seems to be in different league. I think it's early for the poll. We have to see Halle/Queens first.

I am sorry, I mean no disrespect but to think that Marin has what it takes to win Wimbledon is a little too much. I think he is a great player but as of yet he does not have what it takes mentally or physically to win a grand slam.

I would choose at least 8 or 9 players as favorites before I choose Cilic.

I guess we will have to wait and see, a lot of people were saying the same about Roland Garros. Nadal is more confident than ever, he has nothing to prove, his serving is better than ever, his slice is effective on grass, his game is more aggressive than ever. If Nadal ever has a great chance to win a second Wimbledon, well its now. Obviously the favorite and best on grass remains Federer but in a final between the two at this moment, I see Rafa winning.

Yeah Verdasco I am not so sure about, I have not seen him play yet and he did some major damage to his body this season so far. To say he overplayed is an understatement. Its a real shame because he was just finally starting to show that he can beat some of the top players. He had wins over Djokovic, again Djokovic, Soderling, Roddick, Cilic, Berdych and Ferrer. Its a real shame for him but he made some really terrible decisions.

lazybear
06-10-2010, 01:22 PM
Cilic has the game to do it, he needs more consistency, and i'd like to see him coming to the net a little more. Let's see what he can do in Queens first. As for the question, hopefully Roger, agree with the notion that Nadal is more likely to go out earlier, but in a final between the two, i'd give the slight edge to him. His serves are even more effective on grass against Roger, and latter's returning game is not what it once was, and even if it's working, it can change against Nadal.

With that said, i think Roger was surprisingly good from the baseline, against Nadal in Madrid, i think that kind of form (which was better than 08 final form) could be enough for him to beat Nadal on grass once again... But all match is different, i guess we should wait and see. As for the other candidates, i'd have to go with Roddick and Murray, and after them Berdych, Tsonga (if he's healthy), Cilic, Söder, Djokovic, and one suprise name (Gulbis?).

Yeah - could imagine him beating Nadal with some confidence, but can't really imagine how he could beat Fed on grass. The only real answer lies in 60% first serves, lots of easy holds, really lever his return game advantage. However, lately you're more likely to see 45% than that.

I think it's ridiculous to say Nadal has an awesome chance. His grass game is sub-par right now. Other than clay, he still has not made much of a statement at all on any other surface. I think he's at risk for a fairly early loss at Wimbledon. He might make QF. But if Lopez can beat him this week, he's in for a tough run, and certainly not a grass favorite.

Wow. Nadal beat Fed in straight sets on grass? I think you're a little confused. Nadal played the grass court match of his life and did come up on top... just that obne time. Last year Roddick played the grass court match of his life and just came up short.

Let's face it: Nadal is unbelievable on clay. He is undisputed #1 on clay. BUT he is far from the best on any other surface. I'd say he's a solid top 10 on hard courts and grass. Making it to the final two years in a row when you were at the top of your all-court game, does not guarantee him to be a favorite this year.

But we can all cheer for our faves. Again, biases aside (and you obviously have a huge one), Federer is the better grass court player. Fish, Hewitt, Roddick, etc have a chance too. Keep in mind Federer is not young anymore. He has many other important distractions in life other than tennis. He'll do his best, he'll certainly go deep, if not win. But it will not be simple for him.

Back in 2006 Nadal did take a set off Federer and led in the 3rd set too (6-0, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3). That was Federer in his prime, so I think Nadal's form back then would be enough to win today. Not that I agree he'll regress to 2006, I think Nadal had no backhand slice in 2006 and no slice serve either, and less pace on his forehand.

Nadal's serve on grass is a major weapon unlike other surfaces and he seems to a have a decent touch at the net as well.

Now that might be the first time I read someone say that about Rafa's serve. I always wondered, since he is naturally right-handed, if he'd be a better player if he used it.

But he is a better volleyer than people give him credit. JMac was commenting on it during the RG final. And if he wants to win Wimbledon again, he's going to have to be more aggressive and come to the net more often. 'Cause like you said, he has a decent touch at the net.

As for who's going to win the whole thing, have to go to Roger.

You were also 100% sure about other things and you got proven wrong.

Give it up already.

Berdy didn't even get a vote! Congrats again to Rafa. Good luck next year Fed.

I got it right :D

Also got it right, no doubt.
He prepared so well for that and worked hard to adapt his game,
4 finals and 2 consecutive wins...who else could have better chance?

Even if Federer would have reached the final, Nadal would have win.

I think Federer will win his easiest Wimbledon title this year.

All the top players look out of sorts on grass this year. Besides Fed.

As I can see they can give the Wimbledon trophy to Federer already and lets move unto HC season:wavey:

Good point. I think Rafa not playing on grass for 2 years(due to injury) has unfortunately made him regress his grass game to circa 2006. :o Not good enough to win.

Yeah, give that shiny, golden Wimbledon trophy to Federer already and lets move on unto HC season:wavey:

I still expect Federer to win Wimbledon.

I bet 12000 dollars on Federer this year which is a record for me in terms of betting, he better win and then I will get 30000 dollars which I can buy a car with or whatever.

OMG, Nadal is winning the poll. How can you vote against a guy who has won 74 out of 75 matches on grass?
