When do you think Dimitrov will make his breakthrough, if he does?

I don't think he ever will.

reason why he has people who dislike him is because of posters like you. Who brag about him as if he is already the top guy. Then have some garbage quote in your signature that means nothing.

Well, I can understand why people make threads like that, with all that fanboy predictions like "Dimitrov will be the next Federer" and etc... So far his play is getting worser and worser.
Yeah, sure, you will tell me that I am bulgarian and I should cheer for him, but that doesn mean that I have to close my eyes and say black to white.

How do you define "breakthrough"?

I think he'll make top 200 within a couple years.

Depends on what type of breakthrough is expected and wanted to be known.

he did come back from an injury and he's proven last year that he is capable of good things

when he gets back into his rythym and gets his confidence back the results will come and i dont think we'll have to wait to much longer. Like i said i think either by late this year or early/middle next year he'll make his climb up and be in the top 100 or close to it.

How can you possibly make a statement like this. Even his greatest fans are touting him as being the next "GOAT". Also, to further contradict yourself, you voted in this poll, thus predicting what is going to happen in the future. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

At 19 Federer was not exactly a top player. Nowadays tennis is even more physical, its a lot harder for the younger generation. Grisha will get there but his game needs time.

Soderling, Verdasco, Murray, Del Potro all needed time to develop and are still doing so.

Leave the kid alone, the game is more physical than ever. Not everyone is gonna be like Nadal.

And by the way all these so called fans who are over hyping Grigor constantly, if you really are a fan than you will leave him in peace, stop putting extra pressure and give his game(body) time to develop properly.

he might be a late bloomer like de bakker. but to be honest i really expected him to be higher by now considering all the comparisons to nadal and federer.

at 19, nadal was winning his first grand slam and Federer was top 20 with a title. grigor is nowhere near that

Actually at 19, Roger's ranking ranged from number 40(beginning) to number 14(end of 19th year). He had only won one title at that time, which was Milan and it was a Mickey Mouse tourney. Roger was actually closer to 20 when he started recording some good grand slam results. He made his first grand slam Quarterfinal at 19 and 9 months at the 2001 Roland Garros. Followed by a QF at Wimbledon at 19 and 10 months.

The game today is a lot more physical for the youngsters, you have to be fitter than ever, mentally tougher, etc.

Even forgetting Nadal and Federer, who are obviously exceptional, you have to say that 360 at 19 isn't that impressive.

Del Potro, Murray and Djoko were all ranked top 60 by that point, despite Murray being widely criticised for his lack of fitness at that age, and Djoko having asthma issues. And it's just 3 to 4 years ago. The game hasn't changed that much in that time - it's still the same players at the top.

He was just outside the top 100 when he turned 19, top 40 when he hit 20, and Fed's generally considered a late bloomer.

I'm all for not writing a guy off at a young age, but I do think you have to consider what kind of progress through the rankings they are making when it comes to evaluating whether they really have what it takes at the top end of the game. It's not like Dimitrov is even top of his "year" currently, there's 5 guys of the same age (and another 4 who are younger) who've amassed more points on tour than him, but I doubt any of them get a mention in most conversations (with the exception of Tomic) because they've not had the same exposure Dimitrov got through wc's etc.

IMO Grigor shouldn't be compared to Fed, NAd, Muzza, Nole, etc.

Because - he doesn't have that much talent.

Talent is not only a fluid movement and nice looking shots. It's also the attitude, the mental toughness, the work ethics, etc.

I do hit as clean BHs and FHs as Federer, but i will never be even top 10 in BG amateurs league, so it's not about the nice style only.

Though, Grigor certainly has enough talent to be a future Berdych, Gulbis, Leo Mayer, etc.

Even if he gets to the 70th place, which in Everko's words looked like an insult...it will be the best ever ranking of a male Bulgarian tennis player.

My expectations for him are for a top 150 till end 2011 and then only the future will tell, but he could hardly ever get above the top30. Imo even in the best conditions, best developing, no injuries, good draws, etc., he can't go higher than that.

He has the mental limits already.

The reality is actually what Everko says - 70th place, maybe 68th...but this would be great still.

Forget about Federer and Nadal. Those two are aliens who won't be reached in decades.

I think Dimitrov will break the top 100 early next year, however will stay there for a couple of years before breaking through to the top ala davydenko when he gets his head into gear as long as he works hard.

The change of coach could help as well, lungdren may have been trying to mould him to play too much like federer and not develop his own game.
