Halle R1: Petzschner def Baghdatis 6-4 6-3

Great match! Some fantastic stuff from both players. Marcos hit well from the back of the court while Picasso used the slice and hit some beautiful volleys, though he got a bit lucky with the net cord on his volley on the 4th match point. Baggy had a bad run from 4-3 in the first 'til 0-3 in the second and it cost him the match. Great grass court tennis though!

Hate to say it, but Baggy's massive run of points lost at the end of the 1st set was "predicted" by someone with 50k to burn.

No, I can't believe he'd be involved in that either - aside from anything, the "sale price" of a top pro like him would be massive and way beyond the potential profit in a 250 R1 (not enough liquidity). Guys like Koelllerer (also fixing today) are probably pretty cheap.

Hoping he just wanted a holiday, decided to tank prematch, and someone in his team passed on the info.

Disturbing if true philosophicalarf. How do you know about the 50k, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah are there any sources about Baggy losing on purpose for money?

I've never seen any hint of that before, which is pretty much as you'd expect - in the top50 or so it's basically unknown (Andreev and Hanescu probably the exceptions, and Davydenko that one famous match).

As far as I know, philosophicalarf is right.

Any sources for the 50k bet placed against him?

The entire tour outside of Rafa and Roger are dirty fixers.

Not really...dirty fixers are only the players who fix matches.

He seems to have had a lower back injury and retired from the doubles. He also played clay tennis on grass which didn't help :p
