Good match, result was never in doubt.

Rafa regains his Roland Garros throne and becomes #1 in the process, ending Federer's hope of record weeks at #1.

Congrats Rafa on your 7th GS:worship, nothing amazing just got the job done. Soderling was poor and very error prone, no way is he making the top 5 any time soon. Soderling was 0/8 on bps think. Rafa is also the new n1

Shocking bp conversion rate from Söderling. Nadal was able to whether the initial pression and ran away with the match easily.

A few weeks ago, I composed a poem dedicated to Rafael Nadal, and posted it on here. It was intended to reflect his sheer brilliance and the total adoration and respect which the majority of genuine tennis fans have for him. Sadly, a small ignorant minority of Nadal haters hijacked the thread and started insulting him, and the thread was closed.

Now that he has once again demonstrated his brilliance, winning Roland Garros without losing a set, and rightfully regained the World No. 1 ranking, I would like to repost my verse. Please only post in this thread if you have something positive to say, or want to contribute more lines in praise of the great Spaniard.

Oh Rafa, you are so great
To see you play, I cannot wait.
The heart of a lion, the courage of a bear
But in every match, you always play fair.

No-one can match your power and strength
Brilliant forehand, consistent length
As if such talent wasn’t enough
You always stay focused and mentally tough.

Speed and spin, touch and flair
Not to mention, amazing hair
Enormous biceps, incredible pecs
To admire your body is better than sex

With a flex of the elbow, a flick of the wrist
You win the point, then pump your fist
Your opponents cower, as you shout ‘SI!’
While in their pants, they probably wee

Your passing shots never cease to amaze.
Your fire and passion leave one in a daze
Forget Roger, Novak and Murray
You beat them all, as if in a hurry

To ignore your achievements would be a crime
You are the greatest of all time
Those who deny it, haven’t got a clue
Oh Rafa Nadal, WE ALL LOVE YOU.

Nadal is just unbelieveable on clay. Winning Monte Carlo, Rome, Madrid and now Roland Garros. In my books, he is already the greatest clay court player in the history of tennis. Just too good.

Soderling didn't play his best match today but then again Nadal made it very difficult for him by getting everything back. Like I said, even for Soderling, to play at the level that he did last year, is almost an impossible task.

Critics asked if this is the beginning of the end of Nadal, and Nadal answers that by winning four straight clay events, in one of his best clay seasons so far, losing just two sets in the entire season! That's what champions do, make a statement.

Hats off to Nadal and congrats to all his fans, he is indeed one special player alongside Federer.

Soderling just dind't show up today, just like last year's final. You know your return game sucks when your opponet makes more aces than you with 180 km/h serves.

Well played Nadal. Deserved victory - winning the French Open without dropping a set and going through the entire clay season without losing a match. Goes back to number 1 where he is likely to remain for the forseeable future. I hope there's a contest for the top ranking later on in the year.

Well done to Soderling as well for having an outstanding tournament...just a shame for him that shots that would normally have gone for winners against most other players were somehow returned back into play by Nadal. I wish him well for next year's tournament.

But for now, we've got the grass season to look forward to.

Reasons Nadal won:

- Robin was nervous.
- Robin was tired after the epic 5-seter vs Berdych.
- Nadal hit a lot of lucky shots.
- It was windy.
- Nadal has new superior strings (same as Schiavone and Stosur), which is totally unfair.
- God was on Nadal's side.
- Nadal was time wasting which disturbed Robin's concentration.
- The fat umpire was too much of a coward to enforce the rules.
- It's the swedish national day. Too much pressure on Robin to win.
- Robin had a low first serve %.
- Nadal's first serve % was outrageously high through sheer luck.
- Robin couldn't convert a break point to save his life.
- Man collapsing in the stands upset Söderling, unlike the cold-blooded spaniard.
- Robin re-injured his knee and/or elbow.

Congrats Rafa. I still think this is one of his last few slams. He may win 1 or 2 before King po comes back. He won't win Wimbledon and US Open so I will enjoy him crying there.

You should be humble because you were arrogantly proclaiming Nadal would lose. And ok, so you yourself didn't lose (or win by that matter), yet you're STILL so heavily invested (emotionally) in Rafa enough to "enjoy" seeing him cry if he loses at Wimbledon and the US Open. Hmmmm something doesn't add up.

And I just KNEW an excuse would come haha. Talk about being a hypocrite. :wavey:

Nadal didn´t even need to come close to play at more than his 70% to run away with the tournament without losing a set. Hopefully this title will get the monkey off his back and he starts playing with more confidence as this level of play won´t be enough to win off the clay imo

Alas, it didn't become the exciting, tight match that I had hoped for, but what a beat down-performance from Rafa! This was about his 2008-level, near to perfection. Amazing defence-to-offence, great serving, and even out-aced Robin, who was nowhere near to the level he had shown in his earlier RG rounds. Not a chance in hell today for Robin.

Fantastic to see Rafa sitting on that chair in tears (:hearts: ) - so happy, it obviously meant the world to him to get this title back and get the deserved #1 ATP ranking back. And he's won quite a few French hearts with his attempt to speak to the crowd in French. Lovely.
Congrats, Rafa - now reach the semis in Wimbledon, and the YE #1 is about wrapped up.  :worship:

Robin deserves kudos too, for his amazing run once again at RG, defending his points. Not many have managed to do that in the past five years. ;) It didn't work for him today, too nervous perhaps, but he didn't seem all too bothered by his loss, fully realizing that he just didn't have any chance today. Losing to a top-notch Rafa on clay... wow, now that's a shame, isn't it? ;) Very nice speech from him as well. Robin!

I wasnt as bad as 2008 final beatdown, but still a mismatch . Rafa played his best match of tournament, Robin his worst, I think his spirit broke after he wasted so many breakpoints in the beginning of the 2nd set. He lost faith and that was it.

Disappointed with the outcome, but I'm actually buoyed by Robin's effort considering that he had his clearly worst serving day of the tournament. It could have been a very different outcome if his first delivery was firing from the start, considering how he despite that had his chances and kept his head held high throghout. The way things turned out he couldn't win enough free points or make enough inroads up towards the net where he did well. Nadal started to grow in confidence and posted what I guess must be his best numbers on serve throghout here.

Robin, keep on fighting, improving and learning and you will earn yourself more shots at the finest of silverware. Maybe you will find yourself up in the final against players not quite as fresh and in form as well then. For now, enjoy your short vacation and we'll see you on the grass. :D

Very nice ceremony afterwards as well with classy speeches all around. Nadal may most of the time be an annoying roadrunner with a frying pan to me, but I respect him for his achievements and ability and was actually happy for him when I saw his joy. Both players seems to respect each other now.

Time to heat up the grill. Cheers. :smoke:

And the lion roared.... with the squeak of a mouse!

Nevertheless, well done by Soderling, he played an excellent RG and I'm certain we'll see much more of him. Trouble is I doubt whether his mobility on clay is good enough to really make it in the FO. Anyway, most players would kill to get 2 consecutive finals in Paris... and next year maybe he'll get yet another chance, and who knows, maybe he improves still more and wins.

Now I'll just relax and sit back watching how:
- Nadal haters try to dismiss 7 majors as "only a lucky run by a cheating moonballer", managing only to show off their own pettiness.
and
- how Rafatards overreact and do their best to draw blood from Soderling, managing only to keep haters well fed for the next time Rafa loses.

But I know one thing will never change: MTF will keep overhyping every single upset we come across: Fed was as well as retired in August 2008, Nadal was dead one year ago, Soderling would simply walk up and take the crown, etc. It can be maddening.. or maybe that's why we love MTF.

People bashing Nadal in this thread need serious help. I mean, what the fuck it wrong with you?!

There is a time to trash talk and then there is a time to show some class.

Embarrassing....

:worship:

Robin deserves kudos to, for his amazing run once again at RG, defending his points. Robin!

Amazing post !!!

But if he reaches the SF at Wimbledon, is he almost guarantee to finish the year at #1 ??

So lovely when he talked to the french crowd in French :worship:

It is so annoying to read that Soderling won last year only because Rafa was injured  Get over it.... It happens to lose to someone on his favourite surface, and Soderling deserved to win this day like Nadal deserved to win today.

Look, I'm not trying to diminish Rafa's victory in any way, but Robin really didn't play well at all. It's clear that something was bothering him. Maybe nerves, maybe his elbow (again) or maybe he just didn't have enough gas left in the tank after the grueling semis. Again, Rafa played well and deserved the win, but that wasn't the real SöderKing out there. The one that totally dismantled his worst matchup, Roger Federer, in what was arguably the greatest display of ball striking in the history of the sport. Nadal is lucky that Söderling did not show up today, for whatever reason. But congrats to Rafa who played as well as he can and took advantage of the opportunity that presented itself.

Hey thanks! :D

Yep, reaching the semis in Wimbly might well seal the deal for Raf, that is - I left out a tiny little bit ;) - if Roger doesn't do well there...
So hypothetical, but possible, as he's been off for a while now and I don't believe in magical GS or grass-buttons to turn on. If Rafa keeps on playing the level he showed in his RG final today, I think it's going to happen anyways.

It is so annoying to read that Soderling won last year only because Rafa was injured  Get over it.... It happens to lose to someone on his favourite surface, and Soderling deserved to win this day like Nadal deserved to win today.

Exactly. But giving deserved credits to players isn't actually the stronghold of MTF. I have no doubts that this thread will turn into something very ugly soon with a lot of bashing from both sides of the tard-fence - if it hasn't already. Some things never change.

Congrats to Nadal, he wins his 5th RG title comfortably, without even reaching his best clay level from 2007/2008.

Soderling had an excellent RG, today he failed to convert his break point chances early on and fell terminally behind after Nadal had some incredible points early in the 2nd when Soderling applied his heaviest pressure.

Soderling played as well as he can. He was striking as well as ever but Nadal retrieved so much and Soderling is unable to finish points, so he eventually hit the error. Robin's return on Nadul's serve is just:help:
Played way worse than last year's quarterfinal

Nadal didn´t even need to come close to play at more than his 70% to run away with the tournament without losing a set. Hopefully this title will get the monkey off his back and he starts playing with more confidence as this level of play won´t be enough to win off the clay imo

i think he played higher than 70% today

but agree about the tournament part

Lookin forward to See Rafa getting owned again by top 10 players on faster surfaces in the next 7-8 months!!

Congrats Sod on a great tourney but Moonballer was to good today and you didn't bring the A game to court.

Wannabe physic in the house.
