Poll: 2010 Roland Garros very boring?

06-05-2010, 11:48 PM
Suprised there has been no thread about this yet, given there is always one for every slam..usually unjustifiably.

2010 started well, the AO was very enjoyable with lots of thrilling matches..but this years French Open has been so boring.

The womens was an absolute chokefest/jokefest, but nothing new there.

The mens hasn't been vintage. Last year was saved by the Soderling/Nadal match.

Even the 5 set semi between Birdytch and Soderling was without it's charm IMO. Some great line painting from Soderling but were used to it from him.

Meltzers run was fantastic..but not enough for me when it ended relatively poorly.

Nadal hasn't been playing well..hes not the most exciting player to watch, but in the past you had to :worship: to his game..but not this year, he looks very beatable. I won't comment on his draw.

Verdasco was beyond dissapointing.

Roddick went out en cue, was expecting him to make at least another round.

Missing Davydenko, Simon etc. Those guys are usually good value.

Murray Vs Gasgay was entertaining, but too typical from Gasket. It was nothing special from Murray, as we saw later on, Gasquet just ran out of gas (no pun intended).

Federer looked very good up until the Soderling match, but his early exit was predictable.

Gulbis was expected to be good value but bonked out.

Hopefully the final saves the tournament, but even if its a classic, I for one have found this tournament the most boring I have seen in some time.

How does everyone else feel? I have grown to like the clay court more over time, the matches have been better over the last couple of years. But this FO was nothing special.

It is ironic that what might well be Nadals most sucessfull clay court season ever has also been one of his most unconvincing :) If broken down point by point. Still, making the final without losing a set is special.

I'm not expecting anything special for Wimbledon either to be honest. Heres hoping the grass is fast

Been good thus far.

Other than that one Monfils match which offered a lot of drama, none of the matches really entertained me.

Excellent slam, and the best is still to come.

On the mens' side, that is.

When will someone finally ban 2003's ability to start :silly: threads, or just take away his keyboard for this matter :o?

NOTHING wrong with RG so far, and I was delighted to see an entirely unexpected winner at the woman's side today. :worship:

Last year would have been hard to top for me in terms of personal enjoyment but this one hasn't been bad. Its significance overall will depend a lot on who wins tomorrow, either Rafa's fifth title or Robin's first! If anything it's seemed like it's almost over pretty quickly! I liked seeing Franny win on the. WTA side though, even though I don't usually care about their results.

yes apart from murrays match, the quality has been terrible for a gs

It's been OK. Not great, not terrible. Quality on both ATP and WTA tours has been I think better than expected, but still not really great, about average. But there have been dramatic matches, which is good. The tournament was boring and dull at the beginning to me but has gotten better deeper within the event.

Overall mediocre quality. The women's final was great tennis, but apart from the drama of the Monfils-Fognini match and the thrilling prospect of tomorrow's final, Roland Garros is just, and always has been, the most boring of the Slams.

I've never liked RG anyway but I could still find something enjoyable. This year I thought all the top players played like crap, Rafa included (and isn't that a testament to how much of a clay beast he really is?). If Soderling wins tomorrow, that will be the icing on the cake. The thought of him with a slam makes me ill. I'm so glad that clay season is nearly done.

All my other favourites didn't play.

Only Soderling

Vey boring slam if you ask me.

It missed Del Potro alot imo.

soderlings half was very entertaining, rafas half not so much

06-06-2010, 07:35 AM
Not so bad.But,let's forgive 2003.He doesn't feel very well,I suppose,after Federer's loss

Much better than AO anyway

Well everyone tournament with federer in it is boring! :D

The Monfils - Bikini match was entertaining for suspense and drama, but this isn't a soap opera, it's professional tennis, and seeing Bikini playing someone who was basically hopping on one leg was not my idea of great tennis.

Absolutely exciting slam this year, more exciting than other slams in last years.

06-06-2010, 09:21 AM
RG is always boring.

06-06-2010, 11:50 AM
The the best not the worst...do you remember alot of the GS in the early 2000's were .

I think the final can be special though :D

With Del Potro, Davydenko and Nalbandian it would've been much better.

06-06-2010, 01:07 PM
The lack of two top6 players, although obvious, hurts the quality a bit. But there has been some great stories nevertheless. Who'd a thought Gabashvili going to 4th round, Melzer making a run to the semis, Soderling breaking the 0-12 record with Federer. Berdych making the semis was a great change of events. Overall positive.

06-06-2010, 02:34 PM
It sucked imo bar the Murray game it was terrible. 2009 was pretty excellent for GS's

06-06-2010, 03:57 PM
Pretty close matches and a lot of upsets. Good year
