I know I don't usually like to start thread about the upcoming tournaments because of bad luck, but I'm pretty excited about this one. I've been reading a lot of articles today and it seems it's gonna be a huge deal!
I already found a pic of David, it's from a poster they'll have:

I don't know what you've been reading, but my advice is that, don't trust in those too much. :p Our press (I'm Chinese) has the ability to exaggerate everything. I've talked with some ppl in tennis business and we had a big laugh.

Anyway, our goverment will still make it "a success". They will have to hold this tournament till 2008.

David is one of the "most likely to play" players here though, provided that he is healthy. :)

that's the Beijing press :o , please don't include all Chinese press in this stupid exaggeration group, especially Shanghai :o . i love our Heineken Open, although it's quite smaller, compared against China Open. But i love it any way, and definitely will go to watch it live. it's such a pity that i can't watch David's match  but whatever, he will be sure to come here to attend 2005 TMC ;)

i am not sure how's david's performance this time, because jazz has mentioned he has a cut one the toe, which could influence his moving. More important, the Chinese time here is totally reverse to USA's. it will be hard to adapt the big jet-leg. however, this is equal to every players.

i also want him to play against youzhny again (OMG, youzhny follows David!!), he has lost twice to youzhny this year, more terrible, are the latest only two lost on hard court. if can beat a guy who has beaten you twice recently, both mind and metality will befinit a lot.

Safin will definately come, as he has propagate China open last year, also Srichaphan. just after a surgery, Coria won't come for sure.

oh, i understand. coz this is the first time of China Open, but attracts many good guys to come here, so no wonder many press will put some attention on it. But if say it is another GS or sth, that is go too far. Every GS has long history and glorious background, which can't be reached in only one year star players coming. Besides, tennis is still not popular in my country, not as Australia, France, Britain, or USA. i should say Beijing press and the govenment have over-estimated our tennis market. just as kiro said, they DID exaggerate sth.

but whatever, i want David win~~~~~ :woohoo::woohoo:

I'm not sure I want to see him play Youzhny just yet :p but I agree that he did play some good tennis in that match despite everything else. I know we won't get TV coverage here in Europe, so will have to rely on live scoring while I'm at work. China afternoon and evening matches will be on during the early morning here when I'm in my office, so at least more "civilised" than the middle of the night ones at the US Open!!

ok, i have translated the Chinese article in our press. Actually it is the only one about him. But i am still glad about that. ;)

The Son of The Wind - Nalbandian train in the court

David Nalbandian, “The son of the wind”coming from Argentina, appeared at 4 p.m. and trained in the Central court. Although Chinese fans are not familiar with him, there still be someones watched him training, and even took the photos.

David Nalbandian is only 22-year-old, and what he shows on the court is also like a child whose emotions are always up and down. He will be happy and excited if playing some good shots, and also will be angry like a child if some errors appear. The coach gave some balls to David, and he started to practise serving. The first one is fault, he turned around and droop his head despite his coach’s suggestion. The second one, also fault. David still lower his head, and but this time, looked at his coach, playing his hat. The third one, even fault again. Now, David sighed and had to talked with his coach for a while. But everytime, when playing a good shot, he will upright his index finger like No1 and smile attractively.

When david rest, he is also quite “busy” with sth, such as playing his racquet, spin it fast or use the racquet knock his foot. Without fans’ enthusiastic screaming and cheering, there are still some people who like tennis watched him training. A father brought his lovely twin sons come here, and said: “look, my kids. He plays well, and you also can do it after 10 years”

When the training is near to the end, the whole court has been indulged in a beautiful sunset. David Nalbandian, who has the attractive hair, looks like Ian Thorpe. He runs quickly and hard in the court, and his special wild personality has been melted with the wind, which forms a splendid scene. :)

Nice to see that he is now also an example for those young kids, but do hope he behaved ;)

and still don't think he looks like Ian. We talked about it in the Even een Nederlands topic thread, but well if you read that, then I really hope that David doesn't come even close to Ian :p

No - that's way too easy - I could watch someone serve all day and wouldn't be able to do it well at the end - so why should David be any different? No - he has to get out there and do it - and if there are any sand hills in Beijing he could also try running up and down them like GWH suggested to lose some weight!! So - as I said before - David is probably extremely relieved that I am not his coach, because Eduardo is a far nicer person than I could ever be

David could always go on a treadmill at the gym, and put the gradient at the highest resistance and run on there for some time.

Then there could be some aqua-aerobics in an indoor pool, plus some other things as well. The sand hills would be great, though I think you would be too nice as well Rosie, it needs to be GWH and myself fixing David's fitness, he mightn't like it then, but the rewards would work.

I am really not THAT nice FryslanBoppe  - though I agree that you and GWH would probably be better at the sand hills stuff than me. I am sure Eduardo would still want to be involved somehow or other by directing operations, while I could just sit in a warm, cosy bar somewhere and wait for you all to return ;)

Sand hills and the altitude training in the summer as well. Then there is the attaching the parachute to his back and then he has to sprint with the parachute that will definitely help his speed and as he needs resistance training, and plenty of it too.

Of course Eduardo does all the important stuff like get him to find a serve and move it around and improve that forehand as well.

That's great!!!! Vamos David!!!
I have a tennis class in just 1 hour and the weather doesn't look too good either...but since it's on clay, it's not so bad unless it starts raining heavily...

Clay, when it's overcast and a bit rainy, what great memories this brings, just makes it heavier and more fun to play on.

Come on David, back into the gym and win this match eventually.

I didn't think it was actually, maybe Rosie can suggest this when she sees them next. Then there is the plyometrics as well to increase his speed, so that will work. I know the sand stuff does from personal experience and no impact on the joints.

Could always use ankle weights just to use more resistance, this is when it would should hurt and not on the court, when he runs out of steam.

Jazz, getting clay into the clothes, is half of the fun, though when the balls get clay coloured it can get irritating.

No - I can't see any of the big names playing this tournament next year, - they would be better off in Romania or back in the States at Delray Beach if they want match practice. I see Carlos is already a break down in his match - probably can't wait to get the hell out of there  .

Delray Beach won't be there next year in that timeslot, then Shanghai will have to move because they have the TMC.

Well David won.............I think  Just got up this morning and the Beijing web-site says he won 6-3 in the 3rd (he lost the second set 3-6). Trouble is, I can't see this score anywhere else, and there are no Chinese people on line at present to verify it definately, - so just hope they have got this right. Don't know what he did to lose the 2nd set  but in a way it's good for him to come through a final set and actually WIN for a change after losing his last two matches that went to final sets - may give him more confidence. Hopefully I'll find out more when I get to work.

BTW, ferrero is also out. now i wonder how far can safin go..... the only good news for me is after ferrero and moya out, david has chance to be arranged in the center court, then i can watch it live and tell u sth.

OK, I hope these early struggles give him some much-needed confidence.

So do I Sigma - coming back from injury is always hard - matches don't go as easily as they should, and the only way you can gain match fitness and confidence is to keep io playing them AND winning them. I am proud of David for winning two matches in one day - and both 3 setters too - he must be tired - hope he relaxes well tonight. Nieminen will be hard but he has done better than expected to get to the Quarter Final - so well done David :)

We can only hope that those two matches has toughened him up a little. We'll see though.

It's not like they don't know each other and have had some tough battles, the 2003 US Open for one and this will be a good test for him.

He better warm down properly, so he doesn't wake up stiff and not ready to play.

Yes, most definitely. We don't want to run into more injury problems because of improper "technique", for lack of a better word here. Let's hope he rests well today, and be ready to get up and at 'em tomorrow.

He has seen enough injury this season, but he needs to play as many matches as possible.

I think all in all, Nieminen may prove too strong for David tomorrow - but it's hard coming back from injury and regaining much-needed confidence, so every win this week will have helped David regain his former good form. If he loses to Jarkko tomorrow I'll still be proud of him for sticking to his task today and winning two tough 3-setters when he obviously wasn't playing at his best. Well Done David :worship:

Maybe it's a reference to the fact that 99.9% of Buenos Aires has an Italian parent.

I think 99,9 is an exaggeration, but nearly everyone seems to have at least one Italian parent in B.A. Then again the mix of Spanish/Italian definitely gives the city a mind of its own. :)

i have read our news report about david's game vs LU today. it said he was impatient, complained much to the umpire, and throw the racquet, especially when he was behind in the first set, describing how bad temper he has. Definitly, our press don't know it's usual to him. ;)

Is that why you are so attractive then?

I remember I helped GWH with a thing about the descent of the Argentine players and the vast majority were Italian.

Coria, Gaudio, Squillari, Nalbandian (Armenian/Italian) Calleri and Monaco for example.

I haven't read all of your posts in this thread, so my post may sound a bit out of conversation. Anyway, this is my first ever post on this site and I decided to post it here:)
I went to China Open today primarily to see Juan Carlos Ferrero but I ended up as a new Nalby's fan.
First saw his match against a Danish player whose name I didn't pay much attention to. The Danish won 2nd set but he was too impatient to win the whole match.
And then in the afternoon saw David play against Lu. I must admit that he did look impatient during the first 2 sets. He talked to himself a lot and talked to the umpire a lot. I don't speak Spanish so I really couldn't understand what he was saying. But I guess, perhaps it was just his trick to distract Lu's attention and to slow down the match a bit. If it was true, then it certainly paid off.
I didn't stay there to see the final set due to other urgent stuff. And I don't think David has shown 100% of his ability since it was just 2nd round. As a new fan of him, I do hope he can make it to the final and get the first ever champion of China Open.

Ahhhh, I know I talked loads of rubbish. I was just happy to see him win. Sorry for such a long post.

Well, David's been having lots of injuries this year, and although I couldn't see those matches yet, I'm sure he didn't play at his best. It's gonna take a while till he gets the timing he's needing back. ;)
Anyway, I agree with you, I hope he can win the tournament, although he has tough matches ahead.

i have just watched the repeat of his match vs LU. he does not look good, coz the problem of the umpire, the court, and the spectators didn't cheer for him. and he looks so tired after two matches a day. you know, he must adapt the time difference quickly. his serve is still not good, but better than US open i think. too unforced errors, guess it has the relations with tireness. i hope he can have a good rest! coz jarkko won't miss good chance of defeat him. and if he played like today, so very dangerous.

i will translate his interview after match tomorrow, it's very late and i have school. so just wait ;)

Hello to all!
Yeah I'm from Beijing. I forgot to say that I took some pictures of David on court today. But since I can't afford to buy a digital camera, it may take a while to show my pics to you, but I'll do it as quickly as possible.
I didn't know he's been having a lots of injuries this year. Hope he will overcome all of them soon.
i have just watched the repeat of his match vs LU as well. He does looked tired really. I remember in the morning when he lost the 2nd set to the Danish, he was not as impatient as in the afternoon. In fact, he looked quite balanced at that time. So his behaviors in the afternoon must have sth. to do with the tireness. Damn the schedule of the match!

It must be frustrating to him too, because I'm sure he wants to go to Houston and he's expecting to do great at the european season, and maybe he's noticing that he's not doing as well as he thought he would. He must rest, and relax! There's no need to rush to anything, he doesn't need to be in Houston to prove how great he is! He needs to calm down.
Well guys, I'm off to school now, talk to you later! :wavey:
