Madrid, Toronto, Cincinnati, Shanghai, or Paris?

If none of the above, then Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, or Rome 2011?

Well I think it'll be hard for Rafa to win Madrid. Unlike Monte Carlo and Rome, he'll actually have to face players in the top 10. Also he hasn't had the best success in Madrid and he hates the high altitude there.

Madrid will be his. But if he gets Djokovic in the Semis, watch out.

I'm thinking he'll pull out of Madrid too, but it's gonna be the heavy conditions of Cincinatti where he wins #18...

Why would he pull out of Madrid and have 3 weeks off before the FO? That sounds like too much time off to me. I'm virtually 100% certain he plays in Madrid. Can you imagine if he doesn't though, he's already pulled out of Barcelona, he'll lose all popularity in Spain if he pulls out of Madrid too. He really can't afford to pull out of two events in his native Spain.

Depends on what his draw in Madrid looks like. If he runs into a decent player who can play as well as Gulbis did against him, he might lose, but I'm not sure I really see anyone stopping him, unless Novak magically reverts back to his 09 self.

If not, then I think Shanghai.

I can tell you that he won't lose any popularity in Spain if he skips Madrid too. He is a god here like Alonso and Gasol. However, Madrid is the first chance to win some points and approach as much as possible to the #1, so he must play IMO.

Nadal winning a hardcourt tournament. Nice joke.

Well, he's already won 6 of them (AO, IW twice, Canada twice, Madrid hard -now moved to Shanghai). Last year, after RG, he was struggling and still made the QF in Canada, SF in Cinci and USO and was RU in Shanghai. This year, with his confidence in shatters (look at the semi he lost to Ljukuvic) he still made QF in AO and IW and semis in Miami (which he has never won but has been RU twice). If that is Nadal at his worst, how come you think it is a joke to consider him a future champion in any of those events? Back in form and with a winning mentality, the guy is capable of anything, you should know that by now if you have followed tennis these last 6 years.

The joke is that most players in the top ten would consider Nadal's results on hard in 2009 their own best year ever (1 GS, 1 MS, 1 RU in MS, 2 SF....) Murray, Djoko, Roddick, Tsonga, Soderling would all kill for those results, while the only ones who were close were Fed (who failed to win a slam on hard in '09, had to settle for 2 RU), Davidenko (Shanghai and London) and of course Delpo.

And hard is his worst surface, mind you!

Nadal has always complained about the altitude in Madrid. You're right though three weeks is too much before the French. We'll see what happens... Cincinatti is still my pick.

Madrid probably...he overcame his demon in front of Gulbis...
That's why he celebrated so much...and not in the final.
Problems he had from last autumn up to now: closing a tight match.

I gotta believe No. 18 is gonna come in Madrid. He made the final last year, so i don't see why he can't go all the way and win it this year, regardless of what the conditions are like. And if he can stay healthy, I think he may even be able to grab one or two on the hard courts this summer.
