Verdasco already won, Ferrer looking good so far, Rafa not likely to lose. It's up to Feliciano to make it an all Armada quarterfinal! :worship:

Verdasco :D
Ferrer :D
Nadal :D
Lopez

I think Feli just might surprise everyone and make it an all Spanish Semifinal between four very good friends. I am not so sure a lot of people want that on here but its probable.

Hopefully not, at least Wawrinka and Hanescu pushed Nadal to play some great tennis.
We know what's going to happen If Lopez advances.
2 exhibitions for Rafa.

This tournament will lose all interest if Feli wins tonight as all 3 spaniards would bend for their king:o
Good luck to Ernests but for me he is not the favorite against Lalo given the time he spent against Pipo yesterday.

Gulbis will be even easier for Nadal, he would be too tired and it would be bagel and a bread-stick factory.

The final will be 2 Spaniards, just like Monte Carlo, and it could be the same two Spaniards who played in the final there. Spain is definitely the #1 tennis nation right now.

Whole country>One player. It's about the group, not one individual. That's what "Spain is the best tennis country in the world right now" meant.

Thanks for playing.

Gulbis Crashes Spanish Party:cool:

He almost did it again in Madrid, but this time it is Federer as the only player not from Spain in the semis:

Federer(1) vs. Ferrer(9)
Almagro vs. Nadal(2)

Some of you are from Spain, I assume you know more than me about this. What is Spain doing right? They have less money, less population and less history than many other countries who can't even get 2 players in the top 100. Not only is Spain unbelievably successful, the players have completely different styles and excel on different surfaces. I'd be fascinated to learn about the Spanish tennis program compared to the US, British, Australian, French, German, etc.

From what I've read, they have very solid training programs, constantly encouraging youngsters to get involved in the sport. It also helps that their current players are very active in promoting the sport and generating interest among kids. You always see the Armada holding clinics with kids at tournaments and during the week before Davis Cup ties.

As for today, we have 12 top 100 singles players and 9 top 100 doubles players

It's not just in tennis, since the 92 Olympics, Spain has turned into a very good place for sports, we've been sucessful in football, basketball, handball, cycling, etc :)

Also helps the fact that tennis is probably the second sport after football and the federation gets tons of money and sponsorship from many sources

im a big fan of spanish sports, they are one of sports sporting powers.
i like their family oriented culture aswell, very down to earth people.
whenever spain plays vs any neutral nation in any sport, i support spain.(im australian btw).

i just appreciate the hard work they put in and work ethics spanish people in general have.
but its understandable the jealousy towards spain by other old sporting powers.
when a new boy comes into the scene, there is hate and all that towards spain but eventually as spain becomes more established in many sports, everyone will learn to accept spain as a sports power.

well done to all the spaniards.

and my favourite spanish sportsperson is rafa nadal.

No way tennis is the second sport in Spain. Clearly, tennis is behind basketball and Formula 1.

Sports in Spain by TV audiences.

#1 Football

(1 billion light years)

#2 Basketball

#3 Formula 1

#4 Tennis (99% of TV spanish tennis viewers watch only Nadal's matches)

#5 Cycling

I'm not talking about tv, I'm talking in terms of government support and sponsorship, tennis and basketball go hand in hand or at least I've seen that in my region :)

of course, nothing goes over the mighty football in any way :D

Thanks for your words coming from a person who Knows about sports.

About tennis I have to told you that Felix Mantilla, former Spanish player specially good on clay, is working now for the Australian tennis federation and this is the reason cause many Aussies young players are coming to Spain for training and playing futures and Challengers.

Nevertheless you are following the right way to go ahead on this surface. I'm sure, soon any of these talents will begin to be named in the ATP circuit. In fact, Ebden, Millman, Kelly, Tomic or Reid have a big future and are getting acceptable results in this season.

I'd like to have Australia in the World Group of Davis Cup again. I still remember the tie against us in the 2003 final, great atmosphere and very good tenis. Big ones must are always presents in big tournaments.

Cheers.
