Wawrinka best clay courter since Borg.

Soderling avoiding Nadal until RG so when he beats Nadal again it won't be denied by his fans again

Dominant performance from Wawrinka, especially his serve. Soderling was literally and figuratively aimless out there. One of his most listless performances since Coronation. Wonder why.

Nadal would have killed Soderling, same score than last year at Roma. Soderling can only avoid the punishment for so long. He is living off that last fluke when Nadal could not move and had to stop to play during three months after. He is going to get his punishment.

Chalk one up for the notion that Soderling is little more than a parasite on Nadal's legacy.

"Strategic tanking" can also be spun into the notion that he would have won one fewer game than he did here last year.

Seriously, how do people somehow still blame Söderling för beating Nadal, or any other player beating him when he's injured? I just can't ever get past the comedy in the idea that the rest of the players on tour somehow are the ones to blame for Nadal being an idiot when it comes to scheduling.

Everyone knowing tennis knows that Söderling has an error-prone game, and it depends on the day

Every player has good and bad days, and some are more erratic like Söderling.

This is just simply tennis, then why say such bullshits ?

it's not like Tsonga who met Nadal numerous times and all but one made the same errors  (and Tsonga beat him only once, and on hardcourts, which is very different)

Your point is?

What you're rambling on about has nothing to do with what I said.

Yeah, Soderling beat Nadal twice instead of once like 2008's anti Nadal posterboy Tsonga, and arguably has the better career at this point. Though maybe not. Riveting stuff.

No mistaking that. He's had a more solid career on clay than Soderling, and as flyboy pointed out he's good at this tournament.

There's no reason why Stan can't go deep at the French, especially with players like Davydenko and Del Potro out or ailing.

To me, the win over Berdych was more impressive than the one over whatshisname today because Tomas -- who is underrated on clay and having his best season -- came into that match in sharp form and dominated early on.

Stan might give Nadal (who is also being mentioned in this thread because he was almost certainly waiting for the winner) his best match on clay so far this year.

Stan does a lot of the things Hanescu did today, with maybe a little less variety with the drop shots and net play, but better groundstrokes and serve, and a little bit better movement. If Hanescu took 5 games, I can see Stan winning in the 7 range, and he maybe can eke out 8. Most likely he'll win around the same as Victor did, between 4-6.

Usually its the other way round when Nadal gets beaten pretty heavily by certain players.

The haters wet themselves with anticipation for rematches vs Gonzo, Tsonga and Blake and look at what happened there. (OK, maybe Blake is an exception because he got 3 victories before Nadal corrected the H2H)

Fair play to Soda that he actually beat Nadal again after that French Open victory. An in form Soda would certainly be very tricky for Nadal especially off the clay, but nothing other than a Nadal victory should be expected if they meet again on clay IMO.

Nadal has a tendency to do rather well against opponents he has been unexpectedly humiliated by previously. Soda would do well to stay out of the aforementioned group of players should they meet on the red stuff (or Toronto :p )
