Without JMDP and Gulbis, the list is about decent to average.

Mario and Bellucci with WCs, I guess we'll probably see another big name ask for one also, like Isner.

There are a lot of guys on the list with questionable grass court ability so it should be a good opportunity for points for guys like Richie, Llodra, Fish etc. to get a good result here.

I'll guess and say it will be a Rafa/Roddick vs. Murray final.

I see an update to the EL has been done yesterday and JMDP is still in. Why is that as we all know JMDP won't be back before Bercy, he himself has said that. What is exactly the use of keeping such players in the EL?

The AEGON Championships has awarded its five wild cards to Jamie Baker, James Ward, Bernard Tomic, Grigor Dimitrov and Ryan Harrison.

so i guess Ancic is out.

considering 3 of 5 have been given to overseas players i don't think anyone can moan now about how we handle our WC's.

Poor decision giving Jamie Baker a WC. As much as he is a likeable chap and works hard, his game isn't suited to grass and I wouldn't expect him to beat ANYONE in the main draw (not even get a set imo). He shouldn't be featuring in the shortlist for the July Davis Cup tie...would have been more use giving the opportunity to Boggo or Goodall, who are at least capable of giving a good match on this surface. Yes, Boggo has had umpteen opportunities and rarely taken any, but there is a reason why he is still comfortably our British #2...

Also looks like Boggo is going to be given the cold shoulder for Wimbledon as well.

Good decisions for the other WCs though. Dimitrov, Tomic and Harrison all deserve their opportunities, and each can threaten the MD guys. Ward is capable of giving a good match (as long as he doesn't give up like in that Baggy match last year  ), and is more than likely to feature in the Davis Cup squad against Turkey so this is a chance to see if he is worthy or not.

Don't agree with your opinion about Baker at all(defeated Peya who was in top 100 at time in 2007). Infact i dont agree with any of this statement.

Dimitrov, Tomic and Harrison are not good WC choices. Unless we are planning on poaching the all to represent GB? Will all go out first round! Should have given them to young brits or even Boggo

But this is just my opinion and not many will agree with me probably.

But this is just my opinion and not many will agree with me probably.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree with any of it lol.

Just because Baker won a match 3 years ago doesn't mean that he will win one next week. His game isn't suited to grass, and certainly he is very likely to struggle against the power players (because his own game isn't strong enough, particularly the serve). As for the more defensive opponents, there is a reason why they have made top 100 and why he hasn't progressed from the #250s in the last 6-9 months. His only real hope of winning is to draw a brainless ballbasher or a mug pusher, with either having a bad day at the office. If he wins a set, he has done well...and that is a sad thing to have to say.

Baker should have been given a WC to qualifying instead (not that he would have qualified), but I suspect that the MD WC is partly a reward for the way he has fought back in the last 12 months. I certainly couldn't argue with the sentiment, as he has done admirably well, but really this isn't his scene. There are 2-3 other Brits who should have been favoured over him, as far as chances of winning are concerned.

Your comments about Tomic, Harrison and Dimitrov border on pure ignorance. Dimitrov is the least deserving out of those three as he does seem to be struggling on the main tour, but his serve-volley game is suited to grass courts like these, will make him dangerous to a number of the lesser MD players (especially dirtballers), and he should be a nice crowd-puller. Tomic and Harrison are 100% deserving of their WCs...both have a bright future on the Tour, as evidenced by their performances this year and on other previous occasions. Both have the game to threaten some of the MD players as well, particularly Harrison.

The only thing I would say is that it is a shame that only 2 Brits have been awarded WC. But sadly that is an accurate reflection of the dire state of British mens tennis at the moment, as well you know.

Feliciano Lopez's best surface is probably grass along with indoor hard. He's certainly about 2 levels ahead of today's Grigor on the surface. Maybe when Dimitrov was showing a good level and had confidence it could be a match, but it's not likely this year.

Think Feli is going to make the QF for sure the year, and that he is the dark horse at Wimby!:worship:

OUT: Kubot

Why?

Injury.

I don't know if anyone cares, but injury isn't real reason why Kubot doesn't play in London. He told the Polish press, that he wants to relax before Eastbourne and Wimbledon :)

I've wondered this for a while. I know they have money there, and the courts attract the top players in the World. This could easily be a Masters event, or at least a 500. I find it hard to believe that a tournament that has Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Roddick etc, can be compared to a tournament like Delray Beach.

So Grigor won his first round match against Bogdanovic and with that he proves he desereved his WC, not like Harrison, Baker, Ward, who lost in the first round. As someone said before only Grisha and Tomic deserve their WC. Grigor wasn't in form only because he loves Bulgaria. For those who don't know he played injured for Davis Cup and won 3 matches (2 singles and 1 double) and with that Bulgaria def. Monaco 3-2. After those matches he was injured about 1 month and a half and after that he couldn't find his form again. Good luck to Grisha in the 2nd round, but it will me a mirracle if he beat Lopez :D

P.S. Mirracles happenses

The tournament contests the best players in the World. Yet if a lowly ranked player were to beat Djokovic, Roddick, then Nadal he would only get 250 points. This doesn't seem right at all.

Strange that Isner doesn't come : usually he's there where Querrey is :lol:Mario and Bellucci with WCs, I guess we'll probably see another big name ask for one also, like Isner.Isner has a 1-5 career record on grass & spent the last grass season he played repeatedly complaining about his shoes.
