This isn't a topic for GM, Rafa has his own sub forum :wavey:

What Mug will win RG is a more suitable thread topic for General Messages.

His own fault, greed and style. This clay bullying is gonna cost him.

He should stop playing once he sees blisters coming. I know he likes to punish himself but this is ridiculous.

it was foot blisters that got to him a couple of years ago in Rome, not hand blisters. a lot of tennis players have those.

No offense but what's ridiculous is your reaction. Blisters in the hands are typical among many tennis players. Many have them and have to play in spite of them. Hell, I used to get some nasty blisters when I used to play tennis (much less than what the pros do) and still managed to play just fine with them. It's just normal.

This certainly didn't deserve a thread.

He had 9 days between tournaments. He should've known when to stop practicing.

Is he supposed to stop practicing or even skip a tournament just because he has blisters in his left hand?

Again, blisters in the hands are typical among many tennis players. There's no need to panic and sound the alarms here.

Yes he needs to stop practicing when he starts feeling pain from blisters.

I don't know what else to say without repeating myself... Blisters are common in tennis and players just have to suck it up. Not playing just because you have blisters in your hand is ridiculous and no tennis pro would ever do it.

hand blisters are incredibly common in many sports that require grip like tennis, archery or squash, almost every pro in those has them and learn to live with them, so it's not like Rafa is a superman just because he can handle them

as long as those don't appear on his feet, he'll be fine and can keep practising and playing without a problem

Is it against the rules to play with a glove? Baseball players use a batting glove so that they don't get blisters from swinging the bat.

The concern will start if he starts getting them on his feet. Until then, as has been said, Rafa has played with blisters on the hands before, and the players know how to prevent and play with them, and it isn't an issue. He's fine.

He should soak his hands in pickle juice, like Murray had to do when he was with Gilbert.

Those aren't even blisters, they're just calluses where the dry skin is sloughing off from contacting the racquet.

Take a picture before the match, you won't see them.

Yes. It doesn't look bad so I doubt he's in much or any pain (& even if it hurts, Nadal can play through the pain to a certain extent). He's obviously taking the necessary steps to treat it and prevent further irritation, so should be fine.

So, after today's performance, is anyone still worried about Nadal and his hands?

more than before : it's obvious that he wants to finish his matches very quickly ;)

Look also at his face since Monte-Carlo : darker and angrier than it's ever been.

He withdrew from Barcelona after only losing 14 games in Monte-Carlo,

the man looks like obliged to win very quickly to survive : he's like Bruce Willis in a mission against time ;)

no really

his face during his matches since Monte-Carlo looks darker and angrier than ever to me

but well, I don't know him as well as you then maybe don't understand him :o

(I know that since I often read people who don't understand Federer at all  )

you can take as a joke when I say that he's injured because he wants to finish his matches early, but about his face I really thought that
