Some great tennis by Feli, he really upped his game a notch or two in that second and third set! Some great serving to get him out of trouble.
This is a great win for him and he is having a good season so far. Hopefully he will be back in the top 30 after this tournament. A seeding at the french will be great.

I was so nervous in that last game, but he made 12 aces(at the right times)!!:worship:
Very mentally strong in that match!!!

VAMOS

Pathetic, no offense to Feliciano, but he is a really weak player on clay.
Cilic proves that he doesn't "feel" clay, I'm wondering how he managed to reach the 4R in Roland Garros last year.

I thought that Cilic had improved this year when he reached Aussie Open SF. Now I think I was wrong. He was lucky that Del Potro was injured during their 4th round match, Del Potro hasn't played a match since then :o

Marin :o

But absolutely brilliant from Feli, he used his serve at all the right moments and really upped his level in the last two sets. Very happy for him, he's usually not that great on clay.

Well said! I thought Feli was absolutely on fire in that second and third set! He hit a ton of winners. Marin was not playing bad, no shame in this loss.

About what are you talking ?????? Lopez looked like an amateur and clown on the court until Cilic decided to show his magic . Lopez's win is deserved but isn't a result of his big game , more because pathetic opponent . Tonight he wouldn't beat anyone inside top 50 except Cilic . Tomorrow will Ljubo beat Lopez in easy 2 sets . I understand that you are a fan of Lopez but man close your eyes

Cilic has been amazing in repeating his last year performances :wavey:

2009: Chennai (W), Australian Open (4R), Zagreb (W), Dubai (QF), Davis Cup (1 win), IW (3R), Miami (3R), Monte Carlo (2R), Rome (3R)... record: 21-6

2010: Chennai (W), Australian Open (SF), Zagreb (W), Dubai (QF), Davis Cup (1 win), IW (2R), Miami (4R), Monte Carlo (3R), Rome (2R)... record: 21-6

I don't see why is it necessary for some people to always repeat their sentences whenever Marin loses. He obviously isn't good on clay, and that's it. And now all of the sudden it means he's not a good player at all and his 2 titles and GS SF this year mean nothing. Just wait until the clay season is over.

What's worrisome to me about Marin is his inability to close out matches in two sets after winning the first, and unfortunately this match illustrates it.

I still stubbornly hold the belief that he could be a better clay player. he won an early title on the surface not to mention juniors at the French Open. Hopefully his form and concentration will improve during the season.

Cilic isn't bad on clay. Not great, but I've seen him play a decent level, and he did decent in Davis Cup playing the US and the French Open, although he didn't play great opponents. It isn't his best surface, but it isn't F-Lo's either. Marin had it under control until the last bit of the second set and second set tiebreak, and Feli raised his level, and Marin didn't. It's an impressive win for Feli, and people shouldn't worry so much about Marin. As has been said, wait until the grass season before making judgments about his form.

Feliciano Lopez's first third round of a clay Masters Series or Grand Slam since Roland Garros 2004! Cilic's last 4 losses have been to Spaniards. This is a form dip for Cilic but it has still been a good year for him overall (2 titles plus first Grand Slam semi).

You will think he has improved again when he wins some tie-breakers or 5-setters, don´t worry

and by the way for those saying Feli Lopez has no chance against Ivan Ljubičić, I just have to say that Feli leads the head to head 4-2, winning all three of their last encounters. The only time they have met on clay, it was a two set victory for Feliciano. So I would say Feli has a great chance to make the Quarterfinals.

And by the way this is not Feli's best surface but he has made the finals of a clay tourney before and he has also reached the 4th round of Roland Garros. So when he is on, he can definitely play on the dirt.
