Bad loss. :o

JCF had SP on his own serve at *5-4 in the 1st set. After that the match was very different. De Bakker held serve easily most of the time, banging down 16 aces.

Can't believe they dropped Mosquito down to Pista 1 today. Couldn't even see the match.

DeBakker continues his run. He must have took that bagel and breadstick beating by Nadal personally.

Another Spaniard falls

The Baker doesn't like being dished his own products.

Seriously though, wouldn't surprise me if JCF badly underestimated his opponent today. Then again it's not his first bad loss here in Barca. Spanish soil seems to bring out the worst in him now.

Surprising scoreline, De Bakker hasn't been good in tie-breaks overall (record: 26-29). Saved mini-MP at 5:5 in the third. BTW, Ferrero has lost 10th match with 2 losing tie-breaks but has never lost a match 6-7 6-7 in his long career (that's weird) :o

True - his record in Spain since 2005 is awful, even lately. Even lost to Kunitsyn last Barca, and struggled to beat him in Madrid.

I think it'd have been a decisive factor that DB won. An underdog has bigger chance at the smaller arena.

Like em both, so disappointment for JCF in his home country, but a continuance on a good week for Thiemo. I could see him doing this and beating JCF, but I would be very surprised if he beats Tsonga.

A win against Tsonga would be his first career semifinal, plus give him a spot in the Rome MD, so it's a very important match for Thiemo coming up.

New guy bursting onto the main stage! I didn't know this guy until Monte-Carlo where he lost to Nadal. Although it was breadstick and bagel, I saw potential in this guy and I'm right! He could excel like Marin and JMDP...they're of the same age group :)

Every single time I want to see this guy play, I always have something to do or his matches aren't being broadcasted. But he has really come of age this year and pretty much won every single match he was supposed to win, very consistent. I look forward to finally seeing him play. Hopefully he can breakthrough here because I really hate the rest of this half.

Shows that doing well in the SA-swing doesn't mean shit, and that Ferrero has been hugely overrated here. He hasn't done well on European clay in the last 4 years. Much trouble with Tsonga and now lost against de Bakker. Back on earth for JCF.

I only say that the SA-swing doesn't say much, even if you do so well there. People here were talking about him as he was the Ferrero of 2003 on clay. But clearly he is not. And I'm using the statistics of the last 4 years to put people back on their feet.
People use to oversetimate the SA-swing, as Ferrero was chosen the favourite for Barcelona here.

And Sheva, struggeling on clay against Tsonga is not something a top clay player, like people have put him here, should do.

Who said he was the same as 2003?

As for being a top clay player, how many players have had better clay results than Ferrero this year? I don't see why it's unreasonable to label him as such on current form. I don't see what the last 4 years have got to do with anything.

If you posted this after three or four bad losses then it would sound like more than just a knee-jerk reaction.

And I say that those won matches at the SA-swing don't say too much about how good a clay court player he is atm, considering the opposition there. I think people are overestimating those wins over mediocre (let alone a few) players. Let's see how well he's done after RG. I think this loss shows that he is not a top 5 clay courter atm, but highly top 10. And that people here do see him as a top 5 clay courter he once was.

In that case, you'd find my game to be beautiful and exquisite given that I always strive to make the greatest shots... It's just a pity I never seem to find the way to make the land on the other half of court.

I used to think same way, but Tsonga is not clay gimp any more, he can play on surface. Huge serve, big forehand, decent backhand, dropshots - he has weapons to beat clay specialists.
Ask Almagro, he knows.
After all, he reached into R16 RG last year ,beating Benneteau and Monaco and losing to del Potro in 4 sets. And looks like he is playing even better on clay this year.

You're a clown, who has nothing but praise for your favorites no matter how woeful they played and, yet you pretend to be offering analytical comments on others, which are equally biased and clueless. Is that better?

I'm sure when Djokovic wins Belgrade, it will be far more important than JCF's SA swing and indicative of a glorious things to come. Never mind that no one hyped JCF to the extent you pretend, it was of the extent will QF at RG be feasible, but don't let that distract you :yeah:

Such alleged footage must surely be put up some place for others to see. :D

It's not like I don't value execution to go with the intent, but it was obvious to me that De Bakker had potential in that encounter, no matter how hard he got pummeled. He was just unfortunate to run into a guy who has only been beaten on clay four times the last 5-6 years, and is a juggernaught on the surface. Being unable to compete with such a guy hardly makes him a bad player.
