Good win for Ramos-Vinolas against a top player, and good job staying in the match especially after losing those match points in the TB.

I've been monitoring Ramos for a little while...has made steady progress. Obviously his best win to date, so big congrats to him. :yeah:

Yet to see him play, or even a picture of him...but that will surely change soon if he continues upwards.

Surprising scoreline, I mean especially after wasting match points in the second set, usually in those situations an underdog loses the final set distinctively.

Ditto, look forward to seeng him play somewhere, keep seeing the name in results here and there.

Gulbis next - not impossible he could win there, as Gulbis is always prone to blow up and beat himself.

VAMOS Ramos!

I can't wait to see him as well. Does he have any special weapon or style or is he just another spanish claymug?

Did well to get over the 3 MP's he had in the 2nd set :)

Now that really sounds like a choke. ;) :p

I don't know if he wasted them or Gonzo saved them with great play, but quite a giant mental effort to come back from that huge dissapointment and win the 3rd set again.
Most people would lose momentum and grip of the match completely, but he didn't.

not recently no, he is improving. He has won matches this year that were a struggle. Case and point his first match of the week when he wasted all of those break points against luczak. He could have gotten frustrated and errored the game away and the old gulbis would have but he held on.

it will be an interesting match to watch thats for sure

No steady progress, this win came as a big surprise. He's had a pretty moderate year so far. But then again, you know Gonzo...

Absolutely, much better at grinding out the wins lately, but I'll believe that element of him is gone ........ well, never. See Verdasco 2nd set vs Montanes :-)

González has become nothing short of a clown lately. If he keeps this form, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets out of the top 20 or worse by the end of the year.

As for this tournament, they might as well call it the All Spanish Open. Odds are that we're gonna have 8 Spanish mugs in the QF.

He may have won the match, but he did drop a set and on a tie break aswell.

He should retire

Fernando didn't care of tennis anymore  He'll be out of the top 20 easily after RG and probably out of the top 30 at the end of the year.

How is it not steady progress, guy has improved over 200 positions in the ranking in the last 12 months, made 2 challenger finals in this period when he wasn't even a unanimity on futures.

Give up explaining something logical to Ad Wim.

Lefty, serve is below average, can´t get enough pace on it really. Good forehand, normally works the point with cc fh, but he can use well the inside out fh and can flatten fh´s dtl with success, this was the stroke that gave him yest a few key points (set point in 1st set was won with it). Bh is good as well, he hits it flatter but looks solid. Moves well and he is smart on court, definetely top 100 material, but serve is too much of a weakness for him to aim for much higher goals surely

This is the same guy who lost in the 2nd round of a home futures event just last month. Gulbis isn't a bad draw for round 3.
