Thanks for this thread, I hadn't realised that Schoorel has put together some decent results.

Third future final of the year, this was his first win, he didn't even drop a set!

Keep up the good work!

Schoorel is playing a Future event in Vicenza. His likely second round opponent is Stefano Galvani, who is the top seed. This will be a good test for Schoorel.

Another opponent, another win.
This time Stefano Galvani, 7-6 6-3.

Schoorel has won the last 14 sets he's played and I'm pretty sure he'll enter the top 300 next week.

Lost to Janowicz 2-6, 7-6, 6-7. Good battle by Thomas and nice tourney cause he won the first round.
Hopefully we see him more often on the challenger tour.

Up to #290 in the rankings.
Basically, Schoorel is too good for futures level and should be playing challengers.

I haven't seen him play yet, but Schoorel is a very tall leftie (2.02 meters).
Apparently his game is based around a huge serve and dito forehand.

might do well on other surfaces then clay as well then :)

Saw him twice in Scheveningen this year. Like Rainbow says he got a big forehand and service. He is absolutely a shotmaker from the baseline. He takes risks and wants to be the dominator in the rally. When he is on it's great to watch but when he's not he makes a lot too much UE's especially with his one handed backhand. But I like his game overall.

He is slowly starting to make a name for himself in the challenger circuit. Last week QF in San Sebastian and today he reached the second round of Manerbio. Enjoyable player to watch, going for a lot of shots!

Thomas got the victory over Recouderc! He looks to be in great form at the moment. Second quarterfinal spot in a row, he'll now face either Crugnola or Santos-Gonzalez!

The ATP website says he is 7ft 3, or 221cm. Is this correct? If so, this must make him the tallest player!

Nice to read the older posts in this thread.
Just last year I was pleasantly surprised by his silent entry into the top 300.
At the end of the year he clinched a spot in the top 200 and he's well inside the top 100 now.

This guy might be better than Haase and De Bakker.

Thomas got as high as #94 last season in a breakthrough season, finishing with a 39-19 overall record, including an outstanding 29-12 on clay. After qualifying and making R2 of the French Open, Thomas' best result was making the finals of Dortmund challenger in Germany in July. However, his second half of the season was much more of a struggle and eventually cut-short in September due to a serious shoulder injury, which forced him to withdraw from tennis activity until mid-December. He finished 2011 #133 in the final ranking.

Thomas has a 7-6 record this season overall, with his best result being a SF in Cherbourg in late February. He has had struggles performing on hardcourt but the more experience gained off clay the better he will be on other surfaces, which will benefit him in the long run. What is most important is he has recovered from his shoulder injury and is healthy. As he continues to regain the feel of his game and confidence in himself, his results should go back to where they were this time last season.

Thomas' next event will be Davis Cup vs Romania in Amsterdam. The Romanian team is very week so the Dutch have a great opportunity to advance into the World Group playoffs in September. Whether Thomas is the #2 singles player or not has yet to be determined but in any case, he should get at least one match in this week and any matches are beneficial for him at this stage. GL to Thomas and the Dutch team in Davis Cup!
