That might just be the weakest US qualy draw I have ever seen. Although there was one year when Sacramento was a 16 player drawer with mostly college students. Hmmm...

Ryan clearly is a main favorite, as should be the Dabul/Kei potential second round winner. Taylor has decent chances to make a QF at least on clay if he can find a way out of his slump. Donald should make the quarters, he has a good record against Ryler. The Tim/Jesse first round winner should do well here too.

Sarasota next week claims it will have livescoring and streaming. Its amazing though how many US challengers have nothing - the best run one I remember was Dallas back in February

As discussed in other threads, it's about staffing. Most US Challengers are run by one paid person and a staff of volunteers who work in shifts. If they cannot commit to having someone(s) running the scoring system during the entire tournament, then its no use setting it up. When you are dealing with limited volunteers, your first priority is staffing the court for matches, then taking care of player services. Live scoring is at the bottom of the list.

Dallas is by far the best because of Craig and his partner who are committed to taking care of the video and the live scoring for the entire tournament.

That's very impressive, good on the Sarasota tournament organization :yeah:

Fee explained it perfectly why many US and really many challengers in general don't have live scoring or streams. It sucks but it is what it is.

Taylor, I don't know what his issues are this season and why he hasn't been playing well, I know he's had some niggles that he has dealt with which could be the cause. The lucky thing with him is, he basically has nothing to defend until about August, and he's ranked 105 now, so no retirement is going to happen. Once grass season starts, he'll be a threat.

Well done, Kei! :D
I suspect he has trouble with his serve. It was serve that gave him pains when he had the elbow injury, and serve has never been a strong point in his game (though he has a good placement).
But his return game is always good hence many breaks for both I think.

Good luck against Kendrick, Kei! :yeah:
Nishikori beat him at Japan Open in 2008, so I hope the history repeats itself!

navy75
05-06-2010, 10:40 PM
Ryler is 20-1 right now on B365. Can't say that I wouldn't consider throwing $100 on him if I had an account, as the one saving grace that he has is that he is a really slow starter...

Filo V.
05-06-2010, 10:45 PM
Donald is a better player than Ryler, so I don't know why this result would be a surprise. Also Donald has the H2H advantage and Donald has a game better suited to clay. Also Donald is playing at home in Georgia. Fully expected Don to win this comfortably.

I'm a little sad as I prefer Don a bit over Ryan, but it's been a good week for Don, and as for Ryan, he's the one who has been playing better and deserves this victory. I think it's going to be 3-sets, and I will say Ryan will win, because he hits the ball really hard and that is something Kei hasn't really had to deal with this week, an ATP level striker of the ball. If he can adjust well to it, then he could win the match, but his serve will probably get him in trouble today. We'll see what happens.
