It is average hard courts, much slower than Athens and Rhodes.
and if you watched DC ties which took place in Israel (except the tie against Russia), the center court of the challenger will be the same as the court in the davis cup.

Great to see three Australians in the draw. Groth vs Lu i think he will win in a tight three setter. I think a good achievement would be to make the quarter or semi finals. Lindahl up against Amritaj he should win that given his recent results also its on hardcourt. He will put up a fight against Sela. My tip is him for this tournament. Matosevic should make 2nd round atleast. Good Luck to them.

The guy who really has a good draw is Koubek, since his seed in the QF has just played deep in back to back tournaments. Think he's going to make the final.

Rainer and Stadler could be an interesting match. I don't know if I see Rainer making it through to the semis this tournament.

I'm going with Dudi on the top half thanks in part to the home crowd support.

Yes, Sela and Levy are favourites here. As you say in Israel home crowd support is always constant. I know this is only a challenger and no Davis Cup but i'm sure local players will be very motivated and supported by public. Maybe in 1st rounds won't be so decissive but in final ones much. Good that Grigor qualified, but now he has to play a top 100 player playing at home as the #1 seed. In a way, it's a good opportunity to see if he can withstand such circumstances and at least be competitive in the match.

Great we can have reports on the tournament, we can see how everyone is fairing! The Israel home crowd is always intense and constant, for sure. That will give these locals support and in Dudi's case, he will get energy that he may lack now from playing with the home fans, and not wanting to disappoint them. I think Levy could make the semis too, but Lu or Koubek would be too tough for him, but as you said, with the home crowd late in tournaments, it can cause choking by players that may be better than the home supporter.

All in all, it's a very interesting tournament on paper.

True, he has more issues with good returners. But, Gilles would have put the pressure on Berankis to hold, because Gilles' serve is almost un-returnable when going good, and Berankis is inconsistent with his own serve at times. It's an easier draw to have Kravchuk there who he should beat.

I have seen all the matches today. Berkins was very impressive, and it seems like he likes the speed of the court. he was very Happy in the end because he fought hard at the 3rd set. he told me after the match that he feels like he can do very well in this tournament.

Muller injury dosent seems to bad. he told me that he had a lot of matches at the last couple of weeks and when he statrted to feel pain he knew that he must retire in order not to hurt himself for the futre.

the semifinals and final at this weekend will be shown live on national t.v in Israel, and usally our sport Channel shows all of his live brodcast also on his internet website )last yar he did, so its very likely that you couls see those matches. the website adress is: sport5.co.il, but i will give you all the deatiels when the time will come

At the moment todays reults are

N.Lindahl def. P.Amritaj 6-3 6-1
S.Koubek def. E.Kirillov 6-0 7-5

And there is currently two other matches being played there scores are Matosevic vs Peya 6-2 4-6 0-1, Middlekoop vs Bemelmans 6-4 4-5.

Well done by Lindahl to win so easily against Amritaj, he got 14 aces and i double fault. He got 8 of the 14 aces in the second set, he only had 4 service games that isnt bad well done.

Thanks, what happened to Okun? Why was he serving so bad ?

Okun arrive to the tournament with a back injury, but tried to play because its is home tornament. he fought back at the 2nd set and wasn't to far at the third, but his chances to do somthing this week even if he would have one Niland was not very high.

its very shame for Noam, because this is 3rd time he looses in the first rouns is israel (acctually he lost all of his matches because this tournament takes place just 3 years). all od the time was bad luck. last year he was drawn against Sela 1st round, and in 2008 he played against the young player from GBR i forgat his name (WARD?). its shame.. he has a tendency to choke in the middle of the matches, and that is what cost him plenty of matches before...but he is still 19, and hopefully the inconsistent play will slowly go away

Berankis has a good but inconsistent serve, much of his issues come more with placing his serve and first serve percentages. He isn't a bad server by any means.

The last 2 weeks losing to Rainer did show that he has some issues winning matches while ahead, but experience will fix that.

why would anyone back rainer this week after the last two exhausting weeks?
Cause Niland played in 1st round against a semi-injuried player and was about to lose, besides that he is too bad in outdoors. Against a ATP player should lose 95% matches.

Schuettler had destroyed a decent player as Stadler conceding 1 bp in 1st round. Niland was a easier obstacle...but today he played as a future player being broke uncountable times.

I should ever trust in this old dog.

Schuettler didn't verify this theory today. He couldn't have more chances

True, but that was Rainer not playing at full capacity. Of course there are exceptions, but generally, when you have the chance to beat a higher ranked and better opponent, you better take it, because they will raise their game. Rainer tried but was probably too out of energy to make it happen.

Marsel won the match when he didn't get broken again down 3-*5. As soon as that happened he broke Bemelmans and won the first set and his ahead now in the second.

Same type of thing with Levy coming back against Bogomolov and Alves and Kravchuk. You have someone who expected to beat you on the ropes, you better take the opportunities, or you will lose.

Jinx :o

Bemelmans breaks back
Marsel 7-5 3-2

Berankis has a good but inconsistent serve, much of his issues come more with placing his serve and first serve percentages. He isn't a bad server by any means.

This. For his little height his serve is decent at least. He can still improve here, mainly with the placing like you say. But many of his serves are really good - which only proves his potential in this department. At one point of his career Coria mastered his initially weak serve pretty much too - and he served many aces despite being a small frame (I am not talking about his dfs when his career already went down in general).

In this tournament there aren't favourites. All players are suffering a lot each match. This can win it any of them.

Marsel :yeah: Nah, he handled it ok. Two sets; speeded up when it mattered. No sweat like with Levy or Berankis

I expected this to happen, but a comeback here is possible.

I think Koubek will win, he's the freshest and I think the other guys as you say are suffering, mostly from too many matches.

:yeah: Totally agree with every word. Down the line, he's going to be a good server, maybe not Sampras, but a guy like Clement who has a big first serve or Grosjean, I think he has that type of service potential. He already serves pretty hard, just needs to sharpen it up a bit, which will all improve as he gets older and more training and experience.

QF matches:

Levy vs. Niland
Koubek vs. Gremelmayr

Levy and Koubek should advance to SF.

This Niland always makes me losing money. So, if I say Levi'll be in SF, Niland will do his best perfomance in years and we will see him playing on Friday again.

I have a bad small feeling Gremelmayr will beat Koubek, but I think and hope Stefan will win.

Ilhan vs. Sela, obviously Sela is the favorite, but an upset is possible.

I think Berankis will win his match. As far as Niland vs. Levy, I guess Levy simply because of the home crowd factor but I can easily see Niland winning.

Gremelmayr to win :wavey: He's not a bad player overall and lately has been gaining shape - very quietly but consistently he improved his scores. Consistency is the last thing Koubek can be accused of.

Alves has a good record vs the up comming wonderkids, dangerous match but i believe in berankis, seen him play many times, has big potential.

I don't feel this match, I can't call it. Berankis barely survived Boggo and tried to choke to Peya. On the other hand, potetial wise, I rate him much higher than Alves. Plus Alves has most of his good scores on American continent. Berankis would have a small edge from me for all that, but a really even match to me...
