Still worried about his injury. Wonder how well he'll be able to move around with the pain and all. But I sure hope he becomes the Casa king again. Always loved this tourney

His footwork is kinda off. He didn't run for a lot of shots he could have. I think it's fair to say Paulo is still feeling the pain. It's mentally tough as he said before in an interview. I'll give him a pass for this silly match :p

Maybe he tries to work out his hip, as it's been stiff, as he said, that's why he plays all those tourneys. And besides it helps to overtake the mental block from moving around as he usually does. Well, at least that's what I think...

I was thinking of him having an earlier preparation on clay, doing physical therapy and all. But I guess that can't be compared to playing an actual match :)

Nani and Macheda should have played since the beginning of the 2nd half! I'm not the biggest fan of Nani, but he was the only player who could make some sort of change to the match. Boss waited FOREVER to play him. And lone striker (Berbatov) was a stoooopid plan :p Macheda should have played alongside him.

I doubt Wazza can make it. I think it's just a psycho war

Too bad Cesc won't be able to play. He's slowly becoming my new favorite non-ManU player instead of JT, The Cheater

So true! Macheda needs more chances! Berbatov is a different kind of striker from Wazza and Macheda. Berb is good in the box and he's very technical. But that's pretty much it

Yep, he was :o Tell me you didn't like him when he missed the penalty in UCL final?! :haha:
No, the thing is I've always thought he is a great captain. Someone who is born to be a leader, on the pitch. He had that captain aura. But cheating on your wife with your friend's girl was too much.

Let's face it, Berbatov is not a forward, he's more of an attacking midfielder, which is great as well, but playing him as a lone striker is like a slow suiside, or maybe Russian roulette - Berbs is in the mood/ is not in the mood.

Hmm, I gues that was the only moment when I really liked him (mean, I know :o) Of course, I respect him for being so devoted to his team, but as much as I, erm, don't like Chelsea made it impossible for me to have JT as a fave. Besides I prefer Frenchies anyway :rolls:

"J'ai eu quelques balles de set au premier, si je les avais concrétisées, l'issue du match aurait peut-être été différente. Mais voilà, j'ai manqué un peu de jambes, j'ai besoin de plus de matches. Je n'ai pas encore eu le temps de très bien me préparer à la terre, les premiers tournois ne sont jamais évidents. Là je pars pour Monte Carlo. Il y a encore du temps avant Roland Garros."

I was there. I felt PHM was hampered on serve, but I also feel Juergen is a bad match up for him, he just draws him forward with stops or angles (and he is capable of that) and forces an error from PHM at the net. That's what happened.

Taking the fact that he's still in pain in to account (And that's not an excuse :p), I thought last night was quite a good effort. It was so obvious that he's not too confident at the moment. I don't know if he should play Challengers now, getting that winning feeling. Because to be honest, it's not going to be easy on the Tour level without 100% fitness AND confidence. At least if he plays Challengers, he might be able to get one back...

PS. Is it just me or he really has been losing some muscle mass??? He looks skinner than I remember. His calf is almost as small as Gilles'

grosjeanlol
04-27-2010, 06:19 AM
I saw the match last night and I think there are good things to keep. But I also think he should play some challengers to be more confident... I don't why he wants to play on the Tour because he's to weak to play against players from the top 20 even if we know he could beat them.
I don't know what to think about his behaviour, do you think he's fed up with playing? I don't think so, I think he really wants to win a match with great points and as he doesn't, his nerves get .....
Well, I just hope he won't suffer from this loss.. He's not quite away from coming back...
I'm so sad for him, he had this match on his side and couldn't ending it..

Well, I haven't posted on GM in a really long time, close to a year or maybe more  And I read it just once a month. I don't like that place. People hate other people who don't agree with them. Have enough of that in real life.

Paulo lost to Cuevas on two tie-breaks, that's a shame such a great tourney as Båstad lasted so short for him. I got the impression that he was a bit too slow on his feet today. Guess Paulo will need some extra time to get back into some sort of a good form again.

Also, he got his hair cut again. :/

Although dropping down to smaller tournaments might do his confidence more good right now. Injury might still be playing a part too, but when you've been losing as often as Paulo has this year - Wimbledon run aside - some easier matches might be key to improving form/confidence.

It's been terribly frustrating year for him, I can understand that he's probably mentally exhausted. A longer break will probably do him good. But I think if he's taking the rest of season off, he will certainly come back stronger and more motivated. But anyway, the most important thing, like the other said, is his happiness. Whatever he decides, just wish him the best.

Marine
07-29-2010, 09:10 AM
I can understand his frustration but he didn't play that much these last past months cos of his injuries, so he should be motived (though) at the idea to try to come back.
I know, that's easy to say... well, he should talk to arnaud clement, he knows what it is to play badly during a long period and not to be able to win 2 matches in a row. I dunno where he finds all this motivation, but the guy still is motived and happy to play, and last fall he played very well (the only big difference is that arnaud is more lucky with injuries).

come on, maybe Paulo should stop this summer and come back for the indoor season in september.

I think he's frustrated that his ranking has dropped so low. He may not want to play challengers, where you have to play alot just to get a few points. Hopeully after a week off, he'll reconsider and give the hard courts a shot. He hasn' played badly on hard and grass this season.

novanora
07-29-2010, 10:45 PM
I feel sad to see his words. His frustration may come from both his tremedously dropped ranking and those 1st rounds losts one after another these days, but overall he shouldn’t self-doubt himself. His level is still there, he played a very good Wimbledon, confident, passionate, mentally tough, sharp and solid shots, looked so fresh and motivated. I had thought that would be a turning point for his season, but it seems they all disappeared and back after those early losts in the following clay tournaments.

I know it’s hard to come back from a serious injury, it's difficult to find the form back, especially clay is very physical-demanding. And he was unlucky to meet three players in the 1st round who are good at the clay: Cuevas, Riba and Chardy. I would think if he could play against a weaker player, and got even one victory on any of these tournament, he wouldn’t say these stop-season things now.

He can take a break if he feels down and exhausted from the losts, and come back to play, just like after RG. The season only passed half, even if only in the challenge tournaments, what he needs now are some wins, and he may find his confidence again with the regained ranking points on the hard courts.

Keep trust in yourself and motivate, Paulo.

Since his injury last year, Paulo went through tough things professionnaly and personnaly. I can't tell you more about his personnaly things but he had to go through a lot !
When he came back at RG, I saw him and gave him some support letters. He knows we are behind him but as he can't find his tennis back and his physical form, he's not so optimistic. We saw a really good player in Wimbledon, but we aren't in his head.
Now that Largadère is over and as he won't have any permanent coach, it's another problem to get over.
Even if he choose to stop his season, we have to show him that we are behind him ! It's really hard for him, we have to help him to get through this...

:awww: It seems all the difficulties come to him at the same time. You are right, sometimes we just saw the loss or win of a player from the match itself, but hardly to know what is really going on with him. It can be understandable that if you don't sort out the personal things, it will be hard to completely focus on the tennis. Courage, Paulo!

Regarding the coach thing, I am not very clear how this works now. So according to my understanding from the article provided above by Soulage, Lagardere Team is terminated, only Lagardere Unlimited remains, and it now only takes care of three players, which are Gasquet, Bennet, and Paulo. Paulo surely wants a permanent coach, but can it only be arranged by Lagardere Unlimited, so he has to accept Malcor to be only the part-time coach, or he can try himself to find someone else to be his permanent coach (even if it will be in the season of next year)? I saw Bennet works with Champion back again, and Gasquet still keeps his old team.

Not exactly, Lagarere Unlimited take care of a lot of players and not only tennis players many others sports and even celebrities they are agent like was IMG in a way. Lagardere Unlimited is not a sport structure it's a business plan to represent people in their business. Look at their website you will understand http://www.lagardere-unlimited.com/home

There is such a possibility if Richard is remained with his current team, non?

I'm glad that I got the opportunity to thank Quiterie. Merci beaucoup, Quiterie ! :hatoff: I hope Paulo finds the best solution for this situation (or maybe he already did? ;) ) so he can play tennis without any pain or discomfort and enjoy himself on and off the court. ;)

Thank you Angelique for your comment but do you really think I would be with him since 7 years if I didn t appreciate tennis???

Quiterie :wavey:

I'm really happy you're going to be traveling with Paulo, especially in this tough time. As you stated, you've been with him 7 years, through the goods and the bads so it gives me the impression that you're the one person who understands him and cares about him (which is very important). As far as tennis goes, SEVEN years of being involved with tennis is a long time. I have no doubt that you appreciate the sport. And I'm sure Angelique just mentioned it because some :silly: people who don't understand said it. I'm sure she respects you and considers you to be a part of the Paulo we love. We love both of you and you know it ;)

Best of luck to the rest of the year, Paulo and Quiterie. We'll stand by you! Always!

I first had the same doubt as you, as i had thought Lagardere Unlimited still stepped into the trainer issues with the players. But now I understand it's only the deal between the player and trainer themselves, so it's kinda of mutual consent between them, maybe Malcor himself only wants to work part-time, just like Courteau left Bennet, and chose to coach female player back as well, it's all their choice

:hatoff: Hi, Quiterie. We believe you are the best person to accompany Paulo around the world and help him to go through all the difficult time. It's good to see Paulo already won his first match in Toronto. Please bring our best regards to Paulo.
