Mandatory event

I know but I think once in a season you could opt out of a mandatory event citing "Personal reasons" like Roddick did last year for Rome.
Hopefully Rafa will have a good run at MC/Barca/Rome and will skip Madrid.

All direct acceptance players must play 8/8 required masters series events (or the number they are ranked high enough to get into). Only players who have qualified for a commitment reduction may withdraw before the deadline from one required event without penalty (except the zero-pointer). Nadal has not earned a commitment reduction.

Sorry, I forgot I posted here. What exactly is "commitment reduction" and who can qualify for it?

I think Smucav was talking about this:
A player’s number of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 commitment tournaments shall be reduced by one (1) tournament for reaching each of the following milestones:
1) 600 matches (as of 1 January of the commitment year)
2) 12 years of service
3) 31 years of age (as of 1 January of the commitment year)
If all three (3) conditions are met then the player has a complete exemption from the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 player commitment.
The first Year of Service shall be the first calendar year in which a player has competed in at least twelve (12) tournaments offering ranking points.

Davydenko is out.

As for the wild cards, I read that Moya will play.

And Nalbandian is also confident.

then it's already two of them.

Granollers will surely be Marca's one.

Gasquet is engaged in Bordeaux challenger then is not in competition for that.

Doing a poll with a Chinese player in it makes no sense either. That means they had 2 crap polls this year.

He wrote on his blog that he's having knee problems, and his doctor advised him not to play.

He might play Nice if he's healed enough.

What is the surface speed in Madrid? I would say it should be fast clay according to results like Karlovic, Giraldo, Anderson all players with huge serves. Am I right?
