I vote Dani starts the next thread. He was more lucky when she did his thread to the Aussie open ;)

Need all the good luck we can get for the grass court season.

South American clay and North American hard courts have not been lucky for him.

Looking at the Casablanca Entry List, It's a good chance for Gasquet to get a few wins behind him!

Not the strongest Entry List. I expect Gasquet to atleast make the QF, even with his results atm.

+ Casablanca has Live Streaming, it had it last year, probaly will have this year!
& also in my Easter Holidays!!

ALLEZ GASQUET!!

He's been wearing the same thing basically for years. :o He's clothed by Lacoste, which makes some of the most colorful clothes, and all he wears is red, white, or blue. I did love the Richie dreamsicle orange shirt from the Australian season 2008.

I totally agree with Richard's assessment of his game
He is not playing badly - not at all . If he could just get over those few key points - win one or two of them
the wins are going to come
Confidence is what he needs - for shuurrre

I also want Casablanca to start!
I'm convinced that Richard can play well and do a good tournament in clay. Most of the players will play for the first time of the year on clay, Richard already played 2 tournaments and he trained a lot. Miami and its atmosphere is behind him now; he said himself "Maybe I had to come here again in order to forget". He is determined, motivated. I know (and he knows as well) that just a match can bring him the confidence he needs. Physically, I don't know how he's but I think it's OK. He isn't injured, he plays well. He just needs confidence! I'm sure we can be optimistic. He hasn't won 2 matches in a row since January but now, it's the clay season. Maybe a new start?
If he win some matches in Casablanca, he can arrive in Monte-Carlo (I hope for the wild-card) in good position and why not, win a match against a top player? Or if it isn't in Monte-Carlo, it'll be in Barcelone ;)

I'm optimistic and I'll be always optimistic with Richard!
Allez!!:)

I can't wait for clay season, either. I'm bored with Miami and our tv coverage stinks. I was at least looking forward to seeing Rafa and Nalbandian play on Sunday, but it was pre-empted by Women's softball that was postponed due to rain, so they showed something else. I didn't stick around long enough to see what.
Lately I have been reading some of the posts on RG.net. I don't speak French, but sometimes can read it well enough to get the gist of what they are saying; other times I use the translator. Anyway, I was reading about Monte Carlo and how everyone was hoping Richard would get a wildcard, or 'WC', which when translated comes up 'toilet'. The translations were something like 'I hope Richard gets a toilet for MC, but if Roger or Andy Murray ask for a toilet, they'll give them one instead of Richard.' I found it very amusing. I'm bored!!
Here's hoping MC gives Richard a wildcard and a toilet, too.
Have a good day everyone!!!

Really- don't know if it's the fact that Richie hasn't been in IW or Miami but I'm very bored and have really not been psyched for these two tournaments at ALL. Except for the Nalbandian/ Rafa match (my #2 and #3 favs) but my regional Fox SPorts channel elected to show poker (how is THAT a sport?) instead of the Miami tennis that was supposed to be covered by FoxSports BUT I did see it on tennistv.com. I started to wonder why I paid for that when many matches are on other free streams but now I know -- and the quality of the picture is much better and no stupid pop up ads. BTW - The first set was really good but then Dave pooped out and Rafa kicked it up in typical Rafa style.

I got the toilet translation too and wondered HOw in the world did WC translate to toilet! but then I remembered from LONG ago when I was in France that "WC" loosely translates into something like wash closet (ie. bathroom) or something like that (i think????)

Back on topic - I'm REALLY excited for clay and HOPE RIchie gets a WC for Monte Carlo and Barcelona. And hope to SEE him play some great clay court tennis in Casablanca

Keijan
03-30-2010, 06:21 PM
Actually WC means water closet (isn't that how it can be called in english too ?) In French you can either say I go to the WC or I go to the toilets, we never use the equivalent of "bathroom" which is only the place where you take baths. At the beginning of following tennis in English, I was all  about players always asking for toilets in tournaments  It's still kind of funny to talk about WC in the main draw. Wild card translates to "invitation" in French, btw.

No need for a WC in Barcelona, as he is on the regular entry list.

Nothing new, apart from the fact that Richard and Paolo practised in Roland Garros yesterday.

OOPS, I meant WC for Rome - I'm assuming the Rome entry list will be up before he gets enough points by winning Casablanca and Monte Carlo :D

Richard and Paolo - hope their slumps don't rub off on each other (just need to add Simon to the mix) :D

I am nit-picking today. :o The Rome list is already out, Richard logically not on, qualis' list still to come. If Richard wins those two (!) tournaments, we won't have to worry about WCs for the rest of the year. ;)

Richard and Paolo - hope their slumps don't rub off on each other (just need to add Simon to the mix) :D

Poor Gilles is worst off of these three, as his injury still (or again?) causes him troubles. PHM is a hard working and serious guy in practise, Richard can only benefit from that.

Nice to see Richie and Paulo getting some good practice at Roland Garros. One would think as much time as they have spent there, they would feel at home. I wish.
Puschkin, this is a belated THANK YOU! for all the translations you have provided. When I started reading the posts and articles over at RG.net a few years ago my old computer didn't have the translator. So I had to rely on you exclusively for the translations. I really appreciate it!

just heard that Andy Murray had been given and accepted a wild card into Monte Carlo
checking the lists , I see that Gasquet is last on the alternates list
have any of you heard whether he has been offered a wild card for the event

I am sure they are holding on to one just in case Federer wants in
but looks like they have 2 or 3 they can still give out

and - ps - thanks for all the translations
got a good laugh out of the WC - water closet vs wild card discussion the other day
for obvious reasons , the term WC is one of the few I remember from my limited use of the french language while I was in France
a WC is a good thing to be able to find
Way more useful than the " ou est le bibliotheque " phrase that I remember - I took so much french in high school and that phrase , along with je m'appelle ... is about all I remember
pathetic really
( and seriously , like I needed a library ? - ha - now had they said " discotheque" I might have paid more attention

now the WC - after a few beers - there , they might find me :)

WOW!!! This match reminded me of why I am a fan of his. Everything seemed to be working today...the dropshots, the all-court game, the beauty of that backhand...Rochus looked lost out there. This is the way he is capable of playing all the time, of course we know that. He didn't lose a point on his serve in the first set and only one in the match! BTW, I don't mind the cap. I also have curly hair so I can totally understand why he wears it.

Richard had all the shots working today. Serve was amazing, got to the net plenty. Basically he hit winners from all over the court and most importantly he never lost a focus for a second during such a one sided match.

Richard opened with a love game, he immediately took his bps in the second game with agressive play, moving forward. He never was in danger on his own serve, after he showed his trade mark BH, he began showing variation, Ollie did not even run after the stops. Rochus served badly and committed errors, but it ws always Richard who forced the game for a second break. An early break in the second set, he hold comfortably with two aces, there was a 214 km/h serve and Rochus' errors became more and more frequent. Richard dropped his first and only point on serve in the middle of the second set, it did not matter, he was 40-0 up.

And oh yes, the cap is back. :p

Yeah, he had that fire in his eyes and was really determined on basically every point. After I saw first couple of points, it was never in doubt Richard would win today given his body language. I know it is beginning of the clay court season for many players but Richard has put in a lot of work already in South America, so he looked far more confident player. I say this week is a good opportunity for him.

So happy to hear that he had positive body language. Long may it continue. Would love for him to have a couple of months of good results.

That is a valid point. It is indeed long ago since he handed out such a beating. And doing it against a guy who beat him only a week ago should add to his confidence.

Richard is on the alternate list for Nice. I am sure he gets a WC if he asks. But let'see how the clay season develops before we "advise" to play or not to play there.

In contrast, he did not enter Rome qualifying.

Let's not get carried away - I've had to eat those words MANY times. But that was the best thing about today's match - he actually did maintain that focus for 2 full sets without the slightest waiver, even when he was drumming the guy.

well it might do him some good to build his confidence with smaller tournies. I imagine there will be quite a few withdrawals from Nice nearer the time.

winner of Tunis earns 125 ranking points. i think that Richie, currently at no.74, will make every possible effort on European clay to elevate his ranking and secure a safe passage through to the third round at Wimbledon. tough mission, as it means he will get a little time to breathe, but not impossible... adrenaline and infectious swagger might fit the bill nicely...

I'm surprised. Again.

I don't think he has lost to Nieminen or Hanescu before, so hopefully the QF won't be a first. :tape:

Another WOW performance! Okay, so he wasn't playing Fed, but I'm happy! Only lost 3 points on first serve, no bp's, less than 45 minutes...I ain't complainin'. Keep it up, Richard. This is the way you are always capable of playing. I love the look of confidence on his face, you know how he starts working those eyebrows, always asking for his 'lucky ball' back! Really cute. I'm also glad I got to see this. I had to work a few hours this morning, and though I might miss it. Glad I didn't. I could watch him play like this all day, such a joy!!

Gasquet has a 2-0 H2H against Hanescu. Both Wins came in the Davis Cup in 2007 & 2008.

Who is this MAN!!!

O.K. so maybe neither of his opponents were great but I don't think the "old" Richard could have beaten even his grandma 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1!!!!!

I had it on my desktop at work and kept thinking I'd catch a look but it was over so fast I only saw about 5 points in between working.

Gasquet's Comments:

"I'm happy with my performance today," reflected Gasquet. "I hope that tomorrow I'll play good as well. Hanescu is a tall and talented player who serves well. It will be important for me to serve well and make him move a lot."

Puschkin, I think I saw Eric Tuesday, but I didn't notice anyone today. Someone else may have seen one or the other. My stream died right after the match, so I don't know. He looks very confident and relaxed. Ha! I think that's funny how he always talks about other players being tall.

No Markus then?

So is the hat his lucky charm or is Eric?
