WCs probably for Starace, Fognini, Volandri
Cipolla (he's from Rome) is in shit form. Maybe they'll give the 4th one to Trevisan who's showing a big improvement recently. Doubt Bolelli will get it

Bolelli, Volandri, Seppi, Starace for MD WC

Fabio is one position out of DA, if De Bakker doesn't beat Tsonga tomorrow, he gets it. That would change the WC situation for sure. Bolelli retiring also changes things.

You would have to think now that a guy Gasquet may get one. Definitely Starace, likely Volandri, and likely Bolelli if his situation isn't serious. Lorenzi could be in line ahead of Bolelli, but he doesn't deserve one, and Cipolla doesn't deserve one either. Trevisan I don't think is ready for this level. It would be shocking if Pippo doesn't get a WC, I think we will, because there isn't anyone else more deserving.

Gonzo out, Fognini is in.

With De Bakker, Schwank can also get the special exempt if he beats Söderling ... and if he wants it.

From his words, I don't think Gasquet wants a wild-card.

At least he said he doesn't want a wild-card in MAdrid : he prefers playing several matches in Bordeaux challenger than being destroyed by Nadal in first round (that's his words)

I don't know these particular entry list rules all that well, but Schwank already withdrew from the qualifying at Rome, so I don't know if he can get the SE. I would be shocked if he beats Robin anyway.

Smart of Richard to play challengers, he needs to string matches together and gain the winning formula again, so he can do well at the French. He's better than all of the challenger players, so any he plays he should go deep, so we'll see. That comment about being destroyed by Rafa is cheeky but sort of shows he lacks confidence, hopefully he finds it again.

Enjoying with his wife in Hawaii ;)

Doesn't want to travel to Europe so early.

Smucav might tell you but I already know that you don't need to be entered for the qualies to ask a special exempt.

The link between "Special exempt" and "qualies" is theoretical ("special exempts are theoretically made because if you're playing on saturday in another tournament, you can't tale part in qualies") but in a practical way, I don't think they're interconnected in any way. Maybe in that way yet

That comment about being destroyed by Rafa is cheeky but sort of shows he lacks confidence, hopefully he finds it again.

Gasquet is used to speaking like that : I've always known him like that ;) Lack of confidence, at least in words, is kind of structural for him

i heard that Volandri didn't receive a wild card BEFORE all the latest retirements
now that Seppi and Fognini (second italian player for ranking) are in the main draw, he will probably get one

Why the hell Roddick is out?
ROME -- Seventh-ranked Andy Roddick has withdrawn from the Rome Masters, citing personal reasons.
The American recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of his marriage to model Brooklyn Decker, who was on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in February.

Roddick also skipped Rome last year when he took a break after the wedding, meaning he doesn't have any ranking points to defend in the clay-court tournament, which begins Sunday.

Although this tournament is mandatory for top-ranked players, Roddick will not be fined because he is allowed one free exemption per year as a veteran with more than 600 matches played on tour.

The ATP said Roddick was expected to be back for the Madrid Masters on May 9. Both the Rome and Madrid tournaments are key warmups for the French Open, which starts May 23.

Roddick also skipped last week's Monte Carlo Masters, although that tournament is no longer mandatory for the top players. In the last tournament he did play, Roddick won the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla., three weeks ago.
