Ferrero was solid, and was good on the odd occasion he was tested.

Kubot really stank the place up, though. Nothing working.

Ouch. :o

As someone has already mentioned, Kubot has played a LOT of tennis over the last few days, and when I saw him a bit of him in the Doha coverage at the beginning of the year I felt that his fitness could be a bit better. So perhaps not so surprising that this was a blow-out, especially as he was playing against a very solid veteran, and might have also had some match nerves as well.

Regardless, congrats to Kubot on another big move up the rankings for tomorrow...the guy doesn't stop surprising me.

Also congrats to JCF for another title to add to his collection. Sure, it is only a small one, but winning is what counts.

I felt sorry for Kubot watching this match. He was clearly exhausted, having played his 14th match in 2 weeks and 5th in 2 days.

Hope he's got some fuel left for the doubles final :scared:

A title!!! :woohoo:

Birthday boy got better and better as the week progressed. Totally on top of his game today, everything Kubot threw came back with interest. There were some tricky passes and dropshots he had to pull off before Kubot's spirits deserted him.

I was worried after January JCF might have a Safin 2009 type year but this should give him lots of confidence to avoid that. Hope he can build on it. Can't wait to see how he performs next week in Bs As.

A nice way to wrap up his birthday week! :D
JC was in control of the match most of the time and had no trouble handling Kubot's drop shots that gave Andreev so many problems yestereday. Maybe Kubot was tired, and the field was not very strong, but that's not JC's problem and he dealt with the pressure of being the hot favourite very well. :)
Loved his controlling the rallies with his FH, and those nice passing shots at key moments.

Good luck in Buenos Aires too! :D

Experience of winning 12 titles before proved key to the ability of handling the final.

Why? he's in the final of both singles and doubles here. He'll be top 50 in singles tomorrow and he's already #14 in doubles. I'd say he'd be crazy to give up either while he's doing so well.

I agree ... he's doing well in both, why stop that?

Big congrats JCF :)

I`d watched the match on TV. Kubot was overpowered by a solid Ferrero. Just a pity for Kubot to end this week on that way. Hands down for Juan Carlos for this new title and I hope to be able to have the chance to see him this week in Buenos Aires

Well done JCF! Got better and better as the week progressed and finished it off with a ruthless display.
This title is a nice confidence booster after the ankle troubles earlier in the season.
Hope he keeps it up in Buenos Aires

Juanqui!!! :woohoo: Surprised at the one-sidedness of this final. :worship: And in his 30th birthday week too. He holds two titles now and hopefully more to come. Of course I want him to play on for a while yet and still enjoy it but it'd be nice to make up some numbers before he calls it a day.

Lukasz has had a long couple of weeks. It's difficult balancing a singles career with being one of the best doubles players in the world, but it's cool he has a serious approach to both of them. Just my kind of player. :yeah:

JCF even after all this years is still a hottie.

I agree, for once.

I don't know why you think he's so old, even in tennis terms. Fabrice Santoro played/playing at 35-6, Jimmy Connors played at 40 Jonas Bjorman retired at 35-6 for example. Juan Carlos like his "old" contemporaries has shown he has the game to continue. I just wonder about his motivation which is inconsistent, but as others have said, this win should ignite his competitive fires and spur him on.

Happy belated B-day Juan, contrats, and keep it up. I wish I could have seen all his matches in Brazil.

The last time a finalist won only one game 2 years ago and it was Nadal who lost 0-6 1-6 to Youzhny in Chennai :D

Nadal also won a final 6-1 6-0 (d. Montanes, Acapulco 2005).

JCF is the 3rd successive Spaniard to win the Brazil Open, following Mugro 08 and Boredo 09.

That's just unacceptable WTA-like result. :o What a shocking final, crowd must be dissapointed.
Ferrero was almost humiliated by Kolya in Umag 2009 final (3-6, 0-6). Now he got his revenge, just not against Kolya. :)

Great result for Kubot, now get rested and we will rock again!
