Congratulations to the Russian for beating the second best player in the world.

Too strong, Youzhny. Should have closed it out sooner, though.

I watched the end of the second set, the game where Youzhny served for it. He made a very lousy error and a DF to hand the break back to Djokovic. Nole did well from there on in to weather the storm but in the TB Misha wasn't willing to fade. Epic, epic 28 shot rally made the difference. Loved that point.

Congrats to Colonel! :rocker2: I'm hoping for a cracker tomorrow.

Youzhny played great! Got a little tight at *5-3 in the second but came back really nicely. It's good to see him doing so well again.

On the other hand, Novak was definitely subpar and certainly should've won the second at 5-2 in the breaker.

Personally i think that the main reason for such performance was a walkover in the previous round . Novak just got out of rthytm and could't find it till the end of the match.

As for those approaches to the net... It seems that Novak just hadn't got any clue what to do. Focus of his game was lost

Youzhny up to 15th now! If he can win tomorrow he'll be on 2180 points, and then he can seriously begin to look at top10 (9th to 14th is very congested, only 750ish points in it). With very few masters points on the board it's looking quite a realistic prospect.

Djoko looked as if he had nothing much to play for - which he didn't, winning the tournament adds 0 to his rankings cos he's maxxed out on 500s already.

I doubt Djokovic was deliberately experimenting with shots and approaches. I think not being tested enough this week + the walkover against Mayer cost him match fitness and rhythm. He looked a bit clueless in some points, trying to get it done but Youznhy didn't fade. A bit of an indication that Djokovic was taking this seriously was the frustration he showed after every miss/UE. It's not like he lost to some journeyman anyway; Youzhny has beaten top class opponents (including Novak) before and in a more impressive fashion as well.

Incredibly weak approach shots from Nole in addition to some of the worst droppers you'll see all year. It did get entertaining at 5-3, 2nd set and the 28 stroke rally in the TB was the highlight of the match.

Soderass should take the title in straights tomorrow.

That slice isn't new though, he's been experimenting with it for a while now and it's still ****. Might as well push it flat onto the baseline with no pace instead, cos most of his slices just doesn't do anything on Deco (barring the few occasions he approaches with it into the deuce court corner, that's a nice shot).

If that was the case Novak is really a moron. SF against such a good player like Youzhney is not the time for such experiments. He could do rnd1 and 2 against Chiudinely, Stakhovsky and the likes but not against Youzhney and so deep into a tourney.
I'm very happy for Misha. Sometimes ago I was shocked to see him play Q for some tournaments because I always thought him to be a very good player.

Good luck tomorrow, Misha, you'll need it.

Novak just has problems pacing himself but he loses tight matches like this because he gives to many cheap points. This trying period may be good for him later in his career if he learns to pace himself and be more efficient and not take it too personally , that's why he looks not serious today. By pacing I mean he should just return more neutral balls so that the opponent puts pressure on himself

Playing Youzhny at his own game was not going to work. These variations of pace, approaches to the net and diet of variety are not the strengths of Novak Djokovic. His strength is controlled baseline power hitting. That was what worked at the end of 2007 and early 2008.

It's impossible to say he hasn't earned his points.

On the other hand, he's certainly had more points (taking into account the new system) and better results than he has currently, and stalled at #3. Because the rankings take into account the past 52 weeks they aren't always reflective of current form.

Pretty poor from Nole tonight, and Youzhny still looked like he might find a way to lose :cuckoo:

I don't think Nole will win a slam in 2010. Nope. Even winning a M1000 will be tough.:scared:

LOL, because he lost the SFs of Rotterdam? Okay.

Djokovic's is trying to change his game and it's taking time, and at the moment having a bit of a negative effect on his once awesome natural baseline game. We'll see how the changes go ... they could make him a better player, they might not. Who knows.

One loss cannot tell you how a season will progress.

Exactly what could todd martin teach fakervic, todd martin was one off Samprass loyal servants & I'am afraid he is passing on that same tendency to fakervic. He wants fakervic to worship federer & nadull like he worshipped samprass.:o

well done Colonel, take this title again man :yeah:

Djokovic with experimenting with new shots and tactics. If he had taken this match seriously he could have won it, but spent to much time with approach shots and going to the net where he looked uncomfortable.

Spot on. What's the deal with it, i wonder why Nole is doing this during the matches and not in the practice sessions.

Yay for Mikhail. He was starting to play very solid at the end of last year. Very nice that he is able to continue his regained form this season so far. Can't choose Soderling or Youzhny to win the title though, I love both of their games.

According to Fed, Murray is more talented than Djokovic.

Since Roland Garros in 2008, Murray has been a much better player than Novak.. Hence why Murray did take the number 2 spot for that week or two during the US Open series. A spot Novak never achieved until obviously now.

I think Djokovic just look unmotivated on court. He should take a break from tennis. cause it seems like he's fed up with it.

I know that. That's sort of the point I'm making. He might be the world number 2, but he's not the second best player in the world right now. In fact, I think his ranking will drop rapidly in the next few months.

You're hallucinating! Stop with the doom and gloom, my god this forum is infectious... people lose so much the perspective here that is almost ridiculous. Time will tell, haters.

noone has separated themsleves as the clear no 2 on this surface as yet.

its very clear at this time and he has been for a long time. could also be argued that he was the best at some spots in time.
it has been close between murray and nadal at some points as well

Nole is depressed but even depressed he is better than crying shame Murray
check the odds

when murray starts winning and not crying , then you can talk
what?

4 grand slams a year, it's stupid to feel bad about a match he had no chance of winning

It's strange, Novak is at a career high #2 ranking but it seems he's regressed from the level of play he won Australia with. Just a credit to the King I guess, his domination has never been more complete.

nothing special imo. one of the shrimps he ate in australia was crooked and he got sick. than against youzhny he completely abandoned his baseline (power) game and played various stiles which didnt pay off but it was still very close.
