The 2010 Kick Off Thread

Misha plays in Rotterdam tonight. It was about time to have a new thread. I don't see the point in having one thread for every tournament because it's not needed. What I suggest is the following :

a kick off thread (this one)
the road to Roland Garros thread
the grass court season thread
the us open series thread
the season-ending thread.

*****

and we still have

the chat thread
the pictures thread

Misha's quarter in Rotterdam :

Monfils (FRA, 4)
Rochus (BEL)

De Bakker (NED, WC)
Korolev (RUS)

Garcia-lopez (ESP)
Ilhan (TUR, Q)

Golubev (KAZ, Q)
Youzhny (RUS, 6)

Misha beat Golubev in their only H2H, last year in St-Petersburg 63 62

Yes, I don't know why the first set went 1-6, Golubev was playing extremely well though, but Misha hang in there in the second set and managed to prevail in the tie break. Now it's a totally different match.

Davai in the 3rd set !!

Golubev was a better player today, he lost because he made 3 stupid UE's at 5-6 0-15 , in the tb at 2-1 and on the MP.
thank god Misha won this match :woohoo:

Well, the better player is the one who gets through, I mean Misha was clearly the more experienced one. He remained solid in the second and the third set and retrieved some balls that made Golubev play one more time and make unforced errors, so, all the credit to Misha for that :)

64 64, which is better than the three-setter from two days ago. Let's bring Monfils down, even if I like to see him play at times. Actually, I hope for a good match :worship:

EDIT

apparently he played great shots when it mattered most, beautiful down the line backhands, nice forehands, and he served well. This is good stuff.

Misha was leading *4-2, but Monfils broke back.

4-3*

I have to leave, so I won't be able to follow...hopefully he'll win and reach semis.

tedlesurfeur
02-12-2010, 07:02 PM
Well, from 4-1 onwards, I admit to Monfils playing better, but I also admit on the Frenchman doing his "show". I know it's up to Misha to ignore that, but sometimes it's hard, and you get distracted.

Misha lost the first set 5-7 while he played better... I still don't understand what happened.

2-1 in the second set.

tedlesurfeur

4-1 in the second set, exactly like in the first set. Davai !!!

Misha achieved the point of the tournament so far, going for a 3-1 lead. I hope you guys will be able to watch the highlights for it.

We actually don't need the scores  we're watching the match :haha: Anyway, there were some incredible shots  The highlights of this match will be worth it. The difference between the two guys will be the net play today, because as far as defense and speed is concerned, Monfils proves to be quite a match for Misha. All the more credit to the russian to be willing to shorten the points at times and benefit from his net talents. He could improved his serve for next round, should he win of course.

Well, even if I like Nole a whole lot, my fav no.1 remains Misha. Moreover, he's the underdog for that match. I'll cheer for him. Should either one win, I'll be glad anyway. :)

I just hope for a good match. Same thing for the other semifinal match.

You have a video thread now, Fran. Thx for the links.

Misha took the first set 76 (5) with some incredible shot at times. He served better than yesterday (he listened to me apparently, ha) and passed well, volleyed well. He was also more agressive than during the previous rounds. The more he plays, the better he plays. I'm very pleased with him so far.

tedlesurfeur
02-13-2010, 07:46 PM
Leading 5-3, Misha had two match points but wasn't able to convert them. Nole broke back and then leveled at 5-5. Misha was a bit tense but then released the tension with a beautiful cross court backhand and encouraged himself loudly in the process. Looks like this set is going to be decided in a tie breaker again.

I know, Mlad are I were watching !!! Misha was particularly good with his drop shots today, and came to the net very often. He varies length and shot selection all the time, and the poor Devarman didn't know what to do or expect on the court, hence this quite severe score.

Well done Igor and Misha!
In each of the sets were from breakin '(5:2 and 3:0 in the first second), but missed the advantage. But in the end benefit defraud and eventually won!

Well, the only thing that worries me is that Misha hasn't been tested at all!!! He just had to get the balls back in play, and that's it. There were a few nice sequences of play from him though, especially with returns of serve followed by net volleys.

60 61

I agree. It wasn't a test and barely a whisper of a threat to be one. Misha had to just keep focus and get the balls back. I hope he used this match as simple practice to focus on hitting some strong strokes, or to focus on keeping his mental side together while his opponent struggles.

Misha's victory with a score of 1:6, 7:6 (7:5), 7:5!

In the third set Misha lost 0:2 *, but managed to play immediately break and level the score. Withhold supply, and in the end made a crucial break and then handed to the match and won!

Good for Misha! :bigclap:

A heavy day, but Misha survived!

Indeed.

The first set, Misha didn't cope with the wind and wasn't feeling the ball. A tough 6-1... but Stan was playing well!!!
The second set, Diesel-Misha appeared and finally showed what he was made of, clinching the tight tie break.

The third set was all about fighting spirit. Even 0-2 down, Misha showed signs he wouldn't give up, and fought hard... and breaking for a 6-5 lead seemed to be the last straw for Stan as the last game was one way...

Misha had this extra something, more confidence that is, to win in the end. Keep the good work Misha!!!

This match was thoroughly enjoyable :worship:

With the score 3:1 to serve when the score Misha "deuse" Fish ran for the oblique stroke, sent Misha, and not stay on his feet, slipped, but got up quickly, and even ran in another direction, but the ball did not catch up.
Misha eventually took the game.
After a pause Fish first came to serve, and then returned and asked the doctor. After the medical break, he returned to the court and continued to fight, but lost two consecutive games of the first set was for Misha.
After Misha in their first game of the break made, beautifully played on the advantages, Fish refused to continue the struggle. Recovery him.

Misha victory! Well spent match.:clap2:

Fyrstenberg / Matkowski d. Andreev / Youzhny 4:6, 6:4, 10:6

Just no words. I'm shocked :sad::fiery:
In the first set, immediately made a break and took advantage of 2:0 and kept here until the end of the party.
The second set started well, 2:0, but then managed to make another break and the advantage increased to 4:0.

And then ......... understand what was happening .... First the guys for the first game missed his serve, losing three games of a row.
One break, nevertheless, still remained, but he was lost .... Igor and Misha, had managed once again to lose three consecutive games of not being able to do by 5:5 and thus giving the second set. Just give.
I had to just take two of its filing and all.
(((((((((((((((((
On Super tiebreaker constantly caught up in the account and eventually lost.

Nightmare. Horror. No words. :tape: :banghead: :bigcry:

I do not know what the current guys ((((I'm terribly disappointed, but what he then ((((((((
But themselves to blame (((((((((

He's on his way to the top ten and that is my focus. A QF is a great result in viewing his past performances here. He's only getting stronger and it's so early in the season.
