The term "girly" is pretty loaded, I didn't realize what you meant by it. Gotcha.

I only really post here just to get random thoughts that don't deserve threads out in the open...I suppose for you people that actually use it to "chat" it's sad how slow it's gotten. If I'm bored I do like to like to read up on the day's "events" though...

Skoff certainly could have achieved more, if he had worked as hard as Muster and Antonitsch too, I feel.

He liked his food and beer. I suppose when you are shagging Miss World, it's not always easy to remain focused.

Of that I have no doubt. But you do seem to have a general...um....distaste for Gasquet. I just can't figure out if it bothers you more that he has all of that unrealized potential or that he's gotten adoration and attention before he "earned" it. If it's the first, I guess I can understand that. Richie's game, when it's firing, is just lovely and it's quite the shame that he hasn't been able to do more with it. If it's the second though, I just don't get it. It's hardly his fault that people like him. What do you want him to do? Say, "You really shouldn't like me because I suck sometimes"?

If you think I really cared about the results of the players I liked, then I would be a Fedal fan exclusively, so in other words it's the over the top hype, as a guy he doesn't bother me at all.

Gasquet needs to get some testicles, that's my only gripe with him.

Well there are a few that need some Wilander's in this world.

I hate Frew McMillan.

He is no worse than Mary Carillo, she is really something else.

He just lost a set from our little Belgian smurf?

Let me see if I can watch this match on Eurosport. Yup it's on.

That's one thing I like about Switzerland the distances aren't so large, yes the public transport is a bit expensive, but unlike the UK it's clean and arrives on time.

I remember when I was in Bern. I went to this one party near the Reithalle, interesting for those who think Switzerland is just chocolate, cheese and cash in the mountains.

:haha: Bavarian is not difficult for me, but Swiss German is hard. It contains a lot of sound shifts, so it is closer to an own language, it is not simply a dialect.

There is a German/Swiss/Austrian TV-programme, where they put sometimes "High-German subtitles" to make Swiss German understandable for all, but they do it for real Viennese, too. ;)

Action Jackson
04-16-2008, 08:15 AM
I have listened to Hansi Holzl speak and he did have a real Viennese accent, very much so.

Swiss German is a lot easier on the ears, seriously I hated German language classes. In fact the I hated the grammar as much as I do Agassi, if not more so,

Well as for subtitles, they use them when a Danish speaker is speaking and it's shown on Swedish or Norwegian TV, but Danish is not even close to a language. Someone speaking with throat and lung cancer with a mouth full of food.

You are not the first non-German native telling me that either Austrian or Swiss German are easier to the ears than "High-German".

That's hard for me to have an opinion about, I always felt high German's pronounciation is more precise. We in Austria hardly make a difference betwen B and P, D and T, and I always thought that must make it harder for foreigners, but obviously it is not the case.

Austrian and Swiss German is softer and more melodic than High German, the SW part of Germany around Freiburg, their accent I can tolerate, but the further north, the harder it becomes to listen to. Well it's still better than Afrikaans.

I suppose it depends on which part of Austria you are in, well Vorarlberg and Tirol are different to Upper and Lower Austria, then there is Vienna, in addition to this, there are differences between townspeople and the rural people as well.

Well the overrated one lives in Monaco or has a place there, he brings in people, so it's no surprise. I just wish the tourists like Rawdick, Blake and Haas in addition to the injured Berdman, Tsonga would withdraw.

It's not just Santoro, but I'd rather him be playing than these claycourt clowns. I never used to like him, but I changed my views and appreciates what he brings to the game.

His match with Gaudio at the Aus Open was great to watch, two guys who just played tennis and not just brainless hitting or cheap shenanigans, running around screaming "come on".

It's good to be unorthodox and I actually don't mind him.

Contrary to most stereotypes, I actually happen to like a variety of players for a lot of different reasons.

I tend to use public transport a lot, wherever I am, so I tend to notice these things a bit more and like most things in Switzerland, it's not cheap,

No, I'm not responsible for those stadiums and the lines have already been tested there.

Hopefully I won't be woken up in the middle of the night in June because something's out of order *fingers crossed*

Oh I remember Sauerkraut because I watched it on TV program which introduces foods from all around the world. I would like to eat some if I meet a chance to. Actually we have similar food called Kimchi, but this is more spicy I guess.. And this is one of the foods GHW doesn't like.. maybe second to Tofu?

LOL Mia, don't mention tofu to GWH. :haha:
Our couisine is similar to German I'd say, you know because of their long rule here.
One thing I like is smth called maybe grit in English, I wonder if you've ever heard of it.
http://www.pivarootsi.ee/pildid/toit/m_mulgipuder.jpg

Another thing is called kama, served with buttermilk or sour milk and some berries.

And yes our sauerkraut is not as spicy as the Asian food.

He has to do well in Houston and Bermuda and he should be able to make it. He plays the Don tonight, then either Fish or Armando, if he wins that. He has won better Challenger events, but seeing him on grass would be an honour.

The shoulder turn and if you do that, make sure to take your Barca shirt. He like most of the Spanish players are big Barca fans.

They showed this special the King of Clubs and they showed Barca and I thought of the cheeky Scotsman, who sat in the managers chair while on tour.

The Don won't be easy, but I think the King has enough to win. I'd doubt whether he'd bother playing qualies for Wimbly, so he needs to get in automatically. Though Vicente was a joy to watch in qualies last year, absolutely epic match against Lammer he could barely walk afterwards and still got me nagging him for a photo  :worship:

River Oaks is very slow and that plays into the King's hands. Yes, that's the thing he really needs to do well here and he won't play qualies, so he has to be in directly. I wonder if Roitman will turn up this year, he is quite funny to watch and doesn't have the great turning circle.

Vicente with that slice backhand that is so slow it's not funny. He is a very good footballer and always something funny in his matches, as you have seen. I remember he and Lucho were playing at the AO 2003 on one of the back courts. We saw the first 2 sets which Lucho won and then I said to my mates, watch this Vicente wins in 5, we go back and the 5th set starts.

Rafa will live, though his uncle can't be impressed he supports RM. Ferrer's family is hilarious. He supports Barca, his bro supports Real Madrid and his dad Valencia.

Hey Andi :wavey:

look at this story from BBC today

World snooker champion John Higgins has branded Ronnie O'Sullivan "stupid" for making lewd comments during a news conference at last month's China Open.

O'Sullivan's gestures after he lost to Marco Fu, are to be reviewed by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association disciplinary panel.

"I just thought he was really naive," Higgins told BBC Sport.

"You've got to be stupid to make those comments. However, Ronnie's not stupid when it comes to publicity."

Higgins, 32, who begins the defence of his world title at the Crucible on Saturday, said the eventual outcome of the disciplinary panel's review was of no concern to him.

anyhow, it all starts on Saturday :yeah: you will see very little of me for all 17 days, and my job ;)

these are 17 days of the year for sitting infront of the tv all day and night, snooker non stop - and the remote to flick between matches

only leaving for much needed food or bathroom breaks (when they have a bathroom break after a frame)

I have my money on Selby, but hope a SCot wins - Maguire

I can't wait! :bounce: Finally a season when Ronnie is doing good on permanent basis( forget the China Open! :( ) Murphy and Maguire are set to meet before SF, I understand, so Ronnie has his chances to finish No.1( and give up the grass for the moment Ronnie! ;) ) If is not Ronnie, I hope Selby( even if his final match will take 3 or 4 days without the bathroom breaks :o ) I don't want Maguire to win because of the rankings

Merton

I am surprised there is so much noise about Gasquet in this issue. Forget should have the balls not to include Richard in the team to begin with, if he considered him out of form. Then he should have the balls not to use him, if he considered him out of form. Once Gasquet was in the team, Forget should have protected his player, not air their dirty laudry in public. Now it looks like Forget trying to diffuse responsibility for the DC loss.

I cannot imagine Tarpischev or Mancini ever doing that.

Action Jackson
04-17-2008, 02:39 AM
Well Forget must be like the dog that has been beaten so many times, then just attacks randomly. He has handled this very poorly and well with all the injury to Tsonga, the other guys in the team stood up in the circumstances.

Tarpi and Mancini are very good captains, they aren't trying to be the centre of attention. I was on the money with the clowns bagging Mancini because Acasuso played poorly and saying he's crap. The facts are that he actually unified Argie tennis after the Luza show in Malaga and in 2004, he really had to go after all that.

Merton
04-17-2008, 02:46 AM
Mancini clearly has done an excellent job since he took over, it must have been particularly hard back in 2005 when Coria was still in the team. As for using Chucho, well had he used Monaco then the clowns would have accused him for not using Chucho if Soderling won anyway. Sometimes bad losses happen, the Toad was on fire and Chucho had one of his crap days, nothing too much to knee-jerk about.

Forget should have been fired back when he chose Clement over Santoro, right when Santoro was on fire, moreover their opponent was Russia so having Santoro gave them additional options in singles against Safin. Clearly a case for favouritism.

What happened in Malaga was horrible leadership. Zabaleta was on fire, then he got all nervous and started cramping, but Luza did nothing to help him, just looked on like a passenger. Then the guy he replaced should have been Gaudio, but it was Zabaleta and we know what happened at the end of that.

The players were the one that voted Mancini for the job, after they sacked Luza, it was him and then Jaite. Well the 2005 tie in Bratislava was the last one with Coria, there was a lot of friction between he and Gaudio. Even to the point that were rumours that Coria wasn't going to play the 4th match against Hrbaty and that Gaudio was going to take the fall if they lost, well I am not one of them, but there are many who still question the Weasel's status when they played Malaga.

Well I know I have criticised Forget for a long time and at that time, there was no way the clown with the bandana should have been selected, but his poodle got selected.

Thanks for the details about Malaga, I only know they threw Gaudio under the bus. I think the coach should protect his players and take responsibility for the choices but sometimes things can get tricky, clearly it must be difficult to deal with somebody like Coria. A pity Nalbandian and Coria were not at the team at the time.

Houston is hilarious, I think it is the only place where Fish can score victories on clay  The King should take him down now.

Action Jackson

Mancini worked very well individually with Coria and was the best coach for him, but it ended up working out for Argentina. This generation have to get a Davis Cup or they'll be the lost generation. There isn't anything really coming through and del Potro is having back problems already. Well what happened in Bratislava wasn't ideal as Coria was in Beijing playing on a different surface and arrived late.

The King should really defeat Fish, they have already played once on the clay and Oscar won. All he has to do is keep good length and expose that poor movement with the big angles, then use his panther like speed ghosting into the net.

Merton
04-17-2008, 03:39 AM
Just checked Fish's record on clay, it is as I suspected. He is 11-14 (not counting futures/challengers), with eight of those wins coming in Houston. One win was against Robredo in a dead match at DC, so there are only two legit victories out of Houston, one against Kucera against Slovakia at DC and one against Santoro in Rome.

I hope Argentina wins the DC and clearly this is their opportunity as they have ties at home. Russia is tricky but they should prevail, then comes the big one against Spain. Just hope they stay healthy, particularly Nalbandian will be clearly needed.

Fish is a total Houston specialist, though he is not to level of Kunitsyn aka Mr. Kremlin Cup. The guy plays like he is top 30 when he plays there. He is just that slow around the court and doesn't know to move, really the King should beat him.

Funny things happen like Oscar up a set and a break against Jonas at RG last year, then Bjorkman started the attack and threw him out of synch. The ToJo loss was a very poor one in Båstad, but it's very hard to concentrate in Båstad with the distractions.

Argentina finally have a good draw, but they need Nalbandian to be firing for sure. In a way I feel for Gaudio, he really loves this competition, but as can happen, the greatest moments can come here, but the worst failures. He only had 3 goals and he achieved 2 of those, so if Argentina win the DC, he will be happy, but a bit disappointed he wasn't able to be a part of it, though a lot of that falls on himself.

That is the key right there, for sure Fish will attack in every opportunity, Oscar just needs to maintain his cool and keep moving him around.

I just hope Gaudio can finish on his own terms, he did very well the year after he won RG, I don't think he has received credit for reaching the TMC in 2005, as he needed some results out of clay to get there and he got them.

One thing is that River Oaks is like an old style claycourt very heavy and slow, so this will help the King even more. If he holds his ground, then he should be fine and not allow to go further back. A semi final place is begging here and that's some good points, especially for the Wimbledon campaign. Roitman is in a similar position as well.

This happens a lot with people that have clay as their best surface, their excellent results off clay, tend to get overlooked in the rush just to label them as clay specialists. Players should finish when they don't believe they can do it or don't enjoy it anymore.

The bandwagon clowns, that tell them to retire and then the next day want their children.

Does Oscar get direct entry to Wimbledon? Those points should help for sure, he has to defend points from Barcelona and also I think he qualified and won a match in Rome and Hamburg last year. Overall great choice to play here instead of Valencia.

Action Jackson

If Oscar makes the semis, that really should get him over the line for Wimbledon qualies. He made the Barcelona QFs as well. I didn't see him on the list for Rome, though I reckon he should play Hamburg qualies.

Merton
04-17-2008, 05:05 AM
It seems his schedule is Barcelona, then Hamburg qualies. EDIT: He has also entered Casablanca. Hopefully he gets the W here, it is an excellent opportunity for him, even though I doubt that direct entry at Wimbledon bothers him too much  I am off, catch up tomorrow :wavey:

There are castles in Glasgow, Crookston Castle springs immesdiately to mind, Bothwell Castle.

Dumbarton Castle is quite near Glasgow and so is Newark.
Weren't you supposed to be away for a few days  ?

:worship::worship:
exist smething like a municipality in those towns?:p

Umm. I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Dumbarton is it's own town, but I would count Bothwell as a suburb of Glasgow (probably wrongly :o) I suppose it is a town in its own right.

Newark Castle is in Port Glasgow.

I'm at my mother's and I never usually use the computer at her house, but she is playing golf and I am "making dinner"

:smash: I only lived in Glasgow until I was 12 and my memory is better than yours :ras:

Coatbridge is a place, I went there when Thistle played Albion Rovers :o

Although I'll join you in having no idea if there's a castle there

something needs to be great for me to remember it - like going to Invarary jail as a schoolkid, loved it!

everything else, my mind is a blank - even trips to football away days

but Dundee is always a memorable place & ppl :o

I just won't watch his matches. There will be others to watch.

He is walking this title in. Unless he gets a huge dose of food poisoning and loses 4kg in a day, then the engraver better start work.
