They are my favourite team in Scotland, so I don't expect them to win that often or that they would miss a penalty and hit the bar, it's typical of them.

Try again Lindy. Did you actually look at the overall context of the statement?

I will say this once and once only, because I am in a very foul and grumpy mood, even by my standards. Numbers count for a certain part of an argument, not the whole argument. There has to be differences, if nearly everything else is the same.

If you actually looked closely at the subject matter, then you'd have noticed what I actually said. That's right, they can't be compared, because too much time has passed.
Right, but you can compare Nadal to the "clay greats" of the past and find him lacking, even when his achievements are greater? We will save this argument for GM, later in the season should the need arise.

Right, but you can compare Nadal to the "clay greats" of the past and find him lacking, even when his achievements are greater? We will save this argument for GM, later in the season should the need arise.

The question was asked by Clown Death on GM about Borg and Nadal, that's right. Those two individuals and not anyone else. Hence I answered the particular question at the time, with the previous answer.

Those other greats have zero relevance to that particular question. You can't judge a standard of opposition by numbers, you can't judge technological advancements in tennis by numbers, why a particular style has evolved, these can't be done by numbers.

Don't try and bring stuff that is irrelevant into a particular topic. If someone wins RG and Wimbledon 3 x in a row, without playing a warm up event in between, when there was greater surface differentials, then it deserved be lauded, that is not going to be beaten in a long time.

So yes, leave that argument, when the subject matter is relevant and not just out there trying to prove a point.

My questions were not regarding the Nadal and Borg passing shot comparison specifically but your criteria for assessing what makes one player, or that player's shots, better than another. But it seems like you switch the criteria to suit so, like I said, I understand that now. I can do that too

Actually I don't switch the criteria. Is there something specific you need to ask and get off your chest or what? I have already explained why Borg's passing shots were better, or do you need me to do that again.

See the other point about the difference in surfaces, then you might get it. You on the other hand, seem to rely solely on numbers.

At least this week of the clay season will be interesting. Next week Nadal is going to be donkey punching the whole field, playing at limited capacity.

Rogiman is just a Muslim racist... I'm scared that so many people seem to side with his views :scared: :bolt:

Umm, OK I want to discuss this further with you. Switzerland is NOT a religious country, the church and state are separated. Now how would you feel if, for example, some religious group of immigrants (it doesn't have to be muslims) want to inforce their religion and laws on everyone in Switzerland? Isn't it perfectly clear (and that's what Rogiman was trying to say) that if someone comes to Switzerland this person has to obey the Swiss laws?
There is not a threat of that happening yet but would you really like the Islamic Sharia law imposed in Switzerland for example should the muslims become a majority? That's just hypothetical of course.

I don't have anything against moderate muslims, I have even dated one. :D
But your statement that 99,9% of the muslims are peaceful is also laughable. How many innocent people have they killed and crippled? At least I don't see Christians blowing themselves up among innocent people for their religious beliefs. The rise of Islamic extremism (also among the youth with immigrant background in Europe) is alarming in my opinion too.

bokehlicious
04-14-2008, 07:48 AM
Enough

Rogiman said that if someone is willing to move elsewhere, then he has to totally let his background to the toilets and embrace his new country way of life/traditions.... That is plain scary!

If you think some extremists will be able to change thousands of years of traditions in Europe then you're either blind or naive...

Everybody seem to fear his neighbours nowadays and that fear is a good reason enough to bomb the world... *sigh*

And I'm pissed at you ignorant morons that think because I'm from Switzerland I live in a "bubble" and don't know what happens in the world...

Well, first of all Rogiman did not say that an immigrant has to TOTALLY give up one's ethnicity in a new country! :p
But for example if wearing a head scarf at a goverment office or school is not allowed by law then a woman taking up such a job must obey the law and not break it, not demonstrate her religion. The other option for her is to go back to an islamic country.

And do you 'bubble boy' find it great when people who move to another country don't make the slightest effort to learn this new country's official language? How are they supposed to communicate and to get integrated in the society then?

And what about those innocent people killed and crippled for example in London and Madrid suicide blasts? Shit happens? It obvioulsy hasn't happened to your relatives or friends.

I am against any violence btw.

I guess you don't have any relatives in Iraq or Afghanistan either  Shit happens there too?

Regarding the language, if you don't learn the local language then you'll struggle to be properly integrated, so yes I think you have to learn it. Religion beliefs is another story, and embracing the local religion doesn't help the integration imo...

Well, nope, and I have no intention to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. And please don't mix me with any goverment, I have no intention to take responsibility for any government's action. ;)
Neither Rogiman nor me was talking about these wars.
Guys of my generation were drafted to the Soviet Army and sent to Afghanistan. I don't have brothers but one of my firend's brother was killed there. I think it was less than a hundred Estonian guys who died there and none of those who came back were healthy mentally. I am not talking about normal because it's always a question of definition what is normal and what is not. But what's healthy can be defined and those guys were not mentally healthy after that experience.

And who was saying anything about embracing local religion? Church and state are separated in most European countires, right? So please don't come with that religious :bs: here in public imposing it on others, that's all. You can practice it at as long as it doesn't affect the others, be it in churches/mosks or at home.

No of course not, and that doesn't justify any discrimination or violation of human rights. But I think you can see the reasons for fear. It only takes one lunatic leader.
Btw I don't know if you know anything about Estonians but we're usually not violent people here at all (except for some who have drunk too much ;)) and I take really huge pride that not a single person was killed in our 'singing revolution' in 1991. I saw the argument. As allways the truth is somewhere in the middle: it's not fair to treat all the Muslims like Religious-driven, cold blood assasins but I think that the people who had to suffer the consequences of the most radical of them acts just can't help themselves to be afraid and react strongly against all of them.

Different customs in different places. :)
Over here, we name the first son after his paternal grandfather name, the second son after his maternal grandfather name, then we choose the third son's name without any "restrictions" and so on.
We do the same with the girls (naming them after their grandmothers' names...).

OK, the worst part of having the child in daycare is that you have to wake up really early :o  So goodbye people and good night! See you tomorrow in the "Rochus outlasts Fed in Estoril 5-7 7-6(8) 7-6(21)" thread!

Noooooooooooooo :banghead: :help: :ras:

You have so many options to fill your free time, I mean you're only 20

1. Pick up boys in clubs
2. Go to shopping with friends
3. Go with your BF in a romantic place
4. Go to a party or something like that
5. ...etc
That's already planned for AFTER my final exams

Night to those who have gone to

Mikey, I can't believe you sleep in a St Mirren shirt :rolls: I think I can get tickets to the away leg of Rangers vs Fiorentina. I would have to phone in sick to go, but it is tempting.

He's just not a big drinker. And he gets drunk really quickly which I find very, very annoying.

To be honest one of the reasons I drank a fair bit in my youth was because I never got hangovers. Now if I have more than two glasses of wine I can barely function the next day

Probably. I think I was 22/23 when my alcohol tolerance started to slide. I could drink a lot, even by Scottish standards and now ... well, it makes me sad. I certainly couldn't even contemplate consecutive nights on the piss anymore.

I'm going to a party saturday night at which I know I'll get drunk, I have family coming over on sunday though so I better hope I'm still hangover free

The only way I can avoid hangovers now is if I sleep till around 4 the next day, and sometimes even that isn't enough

BORED.

Is anyone else playing the ATP Fantasy Tennis game this year? Maybe we could have an inter thread competition. I was extremely bad at it last year, mainly because I lost so many points not picking Nole for Wimbledon, US Open, Montreal etc etc.

I only really worry about sharing stuff because I am ever paranoid that someone could recognise me from them. The "I love you" story that I originally wrote about was about my current bf, but the circumstances of our beginnings do not paint me in the best light, so I deleted all that and posted the one I did. But then I though "Too much" and edited it.
