"Suspicious" result in Zagreb?

Jon Wertheim of SI on twitter:

"heard from several of you about a suspicious match result in zagreb. anyone have concrete info - not just speculation?"

Any clues which match he might be referring to?

Istomin did retire to Lacko trailing 26 22

Then he came back later on and played doubles, losing to Melzer/Petzschner 46 76 7-10

I wonder if it could be that.

Dodig-Korolev. By last year's standards, it wouldn't even be in the dodgy top50 though.

The only reason it got attention was because this was in Zagreb (notorious fixing tournament), between two fixers, and there was a lot of (rich) Russian fan money involved.

I was following that match and watch the tiebreak, and I was surprised Dodig won it but it didn't seem that suspicious to me - but then I wasn't paying any attention to the betting patterns.

He just looked at the developments in the "Suicide" game over here and decided something must be wrong, almost all those MTF experts failing miserably.

Every year the same story in Zagreb :)

Istomin is a fix king, probably him.

No surprise Korolev after joining Kazakhstan becomes a fixer like Golubev and Kukushkin.

I was following that match and watch the tiebreak, and I was surprised Dodig won it but it didn't seem that suspicious to me - but then I wasn't paying any attention to the betting patterns.

What raised attention:

1) Move to Dodig beforehand. Nothing massive though - for a proper fix, see one of the Canas specials (ie he's a set up, and the opponent is 1.2). I think Dodig's SP was 2.7ish at pinnacle.
2) Huge trading volumes for a 1st round at a 250 between two lower lev players. This happens a lot when Russians are involved, sometimes to dodgy ends, but usually not.

I saw nothing inplay that looked like a fix though. Korolev was being a moron, but that's routine for him. He actually went for an ace in the tiebreak too, thought he had it but was called let - not the behaviour of someone trying to lose.

That´s quite an insult, at least produce some reasoning.

wertheim is a moron. i tell him about fixes and for him to do an article about it.
he never does.
he wants concrete proof. like a player will give him a confession via video or something?

This Zagreb tournament is surprisingly quiet on the fixing front.

Hajeks match today was fixed. Of course Cilic would have won anyway but Hajek clearly did not want to win more than 4-5 games. Odds on under 18 games collapsed during the hour before the match.

Why would anyone pay Bolelli to lose when he will lose anyway?

in the middle of second set Jelenic started to cramp and was broken...odds on betfair collapsed to 1.01 on Bozo
he loses next four games with some UE-s and DF-s

not surprised if there is fixing, all soccer games in the Croatia league are fixed and its not a secret...

If it was a fix, odds would not have dropped to 1.01. Players might have acted a bit suspiciously, market was completely normal.

Btw, I was one of the suckers who backed Bozo at very low odds.

What does the article say?
