2. Murray
3. Nadal
4. Del Potro
5. Djokovic
6. Roddick
7. Davydenko
8. Gonzalez
9. Cilic
10. Monfils

Davydenko I don't think will defend all those points at the end of the year, Nadal will at least defend all the points he got plus add French and Wimbledon points, Djokovic will lose points from the clay season that he wont fully regain, and Tsonga I would put 8th, but I don't think he is consistent enough. My 8-10 can easily be replaced by players like Soderling, Tsonga, Stepanek, Berdych and Baghdatis.

that seems about right sophocles. clay monster should be able to move up if he can take care of business at roland garros and at wimbledon.

i would just add that d-pot may be a bit of a question mark but we will just have to see. he too has to stay healthy and fit or he stands to lose a lot of points. he could be replaced by murray or djokovic.

In no order:

Federer
Djokovic
Davydenko
Murray
Nadal
Roddick
Del Potro
Cilic
Monfils
Tsonga

Nothing too adventurous but there will probably be someone who comes in and surprises everyone. Isner, Baghdatis and Youzhny would be my dark horse picks though. I do think Fed will stay #1. Don't see him falling off track anytime soon. Also don't think Soderling and Verdasco will repeat last year's performances but both will stay top 20.

Wow, practically everybody has Federer as #1. IMO it is highly unlikely. He has to gain at least one more slam and two finals to defend his GS points. On top of it he has two MS and we all know what he is like in the Best of 3 format.

The only real advantage he has are that none of the others are consistent enough. This year should be interesting though I still hope that Federer retains his top ranking.

There's a lot of truth to this. But he's also got quite a few points to gain in Dubai, Halle, Estoril, Tokyo, Shanghai as he didn't play those last year. He could also better his performance at Paris TMC (not that hard ).

Yeah also Rome.

He played Rome last year and got a SF result (like his other IW, Miami) which isn't too bad. Asking for a F or W in every tournament is difficult.

Forgot about the potential point gain!! Maybe Beneteau will face him in R2/R1 again!!

This year could potentially cause twists and turns. Until Madrid, Nadal has the most to lose. Then until Cincinnati its Federer with the lot and the Indoor season was somewhat dominated by Djokovic. If Federer manages to retain #1 until Wimbledon/Cincinnati then he is almost a lock-in to remain #1 for year end.

Most of you think that Soderling will be out of top 10. It's not going to happen. Sure, he will lose some points in RG, but I think this will be a great season for him. He can gain many points at Masters 1000 events. He will probably get to No 7 after Miami, surpassing Rodick.

Yeahh funny that everyone thinks that Sod is gonna go out of the top 10!!

Well he gained 500 new points yesterday and he has like 150 points to defend untill FO and he can play 5 masters 1000, more 250.s and 500.s and FO again aswell before those 1200 comeoff!!

A lot harder to breakthrough now than in the past. Last season, there were nearly absolutely no new names to hit the tennis world nor were there any breakthroughs. However, rank 6-20 or so is very very variable, with any of those players able to break into the top 10 as much as the others in that group.

3) Djokovic <--- racking up the 500s and masters finals, but not much else
4) Nadal <--- basically dependent on him winning Roland Garros
5) Del Potro <---- assuming lots of little injuries
6) Davydenko <---looking good atm, but has never done anything at Wimbledon, Indian Wells, Canada or Cincinatti.
7) Roddick
8) Soderling <---interchangeable with Roddick
9) Cilic <---- possibly a big Wimbledon though, depends on draw
10) Verdasco <---- 9/10 prolly any of cilic/verdasco/gonzo/tsonga, depends on luck, draws, injuries

I think Murray would do better. The question for Nadal is still remain here.......If he gets 100% back.....that would be a surprise by the year end.

OtherWise...Nadal would be either No 4 or No 5 but won't be that bad.

And How about Cilic? He supports to be in the list......(such as No 7 or even higher)
Gonz is getting older.....(I'm sorry for it but it is turth)

And Tsonga done nothing so far this year (please remove him)

Verdasco -- not too sure about him because very inconsistent
