14 - Aussie's quarterfinal omen 2009-10

Last year 7 of Top 10 players advanced to the quarterfinals.
This year happened the same thing! And who advanced outside Top 10 to the quarterfinals? No. 14, and the funny thing, on both occassions in the 4th round was eliminated No. 4

2009: Verdasco (14) def. Murray (4) 2-6 6-1 1-6 6-3 6-4
2010: Cilic (14) def. Del Potro (4) 5-7 6-4 7-5 5-7 6-3

:yeah:, i was wondering history would repeat itself this year (would cilic beat JMDP? and he did...very coincidental).

Cilic and Murray were last year in 4R, Del Potro and Verdasco this year.
Davydenko last year withdrew, this year Simon. We have actually a revision of last year's tournament ;)

More importantly, does that mean that the number two seed will end up sobbing again?

Hope this doesn't mean Cilic will make the semis and lose in 5 to the eventual champion.

Going back 10 years, there are piles of upsets (defined by the odds) in the quarters and semis. Some are guys on a flier (Safin, Tsonga especially), but most are just competent pros beating exhausted opponents.

Not sure if that'll apply this year with the lower temps, although that also had the effect of a number of long 5 setters.

The similarities continue. Unfortunately the defending champion had to retire in the QF this year as well.

Is this really so exciting...

Well, I suppose it's KINDA cool; according to this logic Federer should win the Open.

Let's hope all the weird similarities end in the final then :D

I'm sure Voo de Mar has enough statistics in his bag to scientifically predict the future GS champs for the next 5 years.

Last year the defending champion retired against the player that lost in the SF to the eventual loser in the final.

and both times the defending champion retires in quarterfinal!
the thing is it's nearly impossible that federer retires during a match next year
