All I can say is wow what an ordinary match for a 5 setter. Thought Davydenko had it in the third.

Davydenko made no were near as many double faults as Verdasco. Davydenko 5 and Verdasco 20.

Davydenko had more fuel in the tank in the end I think.

Having both won tournaments very recently, this was a worthy match to watch. :)

Davy tricked you all, he tanked 2 sets to practice going the distance since he'll need the confidence against Federer, it's all part of the plan.....

great first 2 sets, choke-fest from there on, will need to play much better on the big points to trouble Fed, Fed fans shouldn't be too worried anymore I guess..

Verdasco's record vs top10 is now 9/58 career, and 16 losses in a row. Quite a large number of those he pushes the opponent then cracks near the end, eg the 3 losses at WTF all in 3 sets, 2 in final set tiebreaks.

Pathetic from both players. At first I wanted Davydenko to win because he had the best chance to beat Federer, but either one of these mugs would've got pummeled in the next round if the winner continues to play like this. I'm hoping Denko will step it up next round.

Whoever can take the first set from Davydenko in this tournament will beat him. He has started out red hot in all his matches and his play slowly drops off as the match continues. Happened against Monaco but Monaco couldnt keep it together as well as the mental spartan that is Verdasco.

Little bit of sarcasm there.

Didn't see the first 2 sets...but when Verdasco won the third I was convinced he was going to win the match. Kolya was poor in every baseline rally and produced a lot of unforced errors. When he had breakpoint at 5-5 and was up 5-4 in the TieBreak I thought Kolya had it, but when he blew those points to handle Verdasco the set, Verdasco should have really produced some better tennis at key points in the fifth.

Had chances in the first 3 service games from Davy but everytime he played a defensive backhand at Kolya, so he could volley them away. Poor shot selection has cost Verdasco the match in the fifth.

If this match is so bad, what about the one Cillic played against no 289 Tomic? Taken to 5 sets by a 17 year old playing like a girl!!

Although Dasco had plenty of DF and UE, he did have plenty of winners as well and that is why it dragged on to 5 sets. Kolya also made lots of crap errors but hey, he still managed to win even though he must have been so bitterly disappointed when he lost the TB.

Look at Gonzo, he faded in his 5th set last night when he lost the 4th over that stupid set point.

So live to fight another day but this long match must have made Davy very tired...rest well and recover:hug:

Must be among the contender for worse match between two top ten players ever. Davydenko only played a decent set, the last, to win it and this says it all. Both made every effort possible to loose the match. They would have both lost today against any other player that reached this stage of the tournament, lucky for them to have played against each other.
Also who was that donkey in Fernando box? Given all the ridiculous celebrations that he was making every two points, I bet even Verdasco was convinced of playing a good match.

Guys play like crap all the time. I just love all the bandwagoning on this board. Davydenko is a revelation one day; a mug on another.

Everyone is skeptical about Davydenko in the grand slam, but greatness is about fighting through poor form and following up lackluster performances with good ones. Every player has off nights.

Davydenko will have to be in tip-top shape for the next round and winning the first set is probably a must.

Dasco had plenty of winners and when his serve is good, it was pretty powerful.
And Davy did some great defending so there were plenty of good moments in the match.
Plus it was exciting and nail-biting that you don't know who will win right up to the last set.

Matches that are one way traffic are sooooo boring. This may be a mugfeast but still it gave plenty of excitement.

Also one more thing, why does everyone think that Nando got fat in the off-season? To me he looks no different. If anything a very slight gain might've occured while he was taking it easy for a couple of weeks while recovering from his foot surgery, but honestly I can't see a noticable difference.

His movement is very good, that's one thing that's actually impressed me so far this year. The speed with which he's chasing down dropshots etc. So it's not like he's unfit, even if he might've gained a kilo or two.

Verdasco made 20 df because he asked too much to his 2nd serve, being afraid of Davydenko's return and consistency from baseline, but seeing that Davydenko was having a bad day, maybe those big risks in service were useless...
