What a choke by Haas, he was leading 5:2 in the fourth set and was two points away twice from the fifht set (at 5:4 30:30 and deuce on his opponent serve).

Definitely routine. Anything who knows anything about Ali knows he was just giving Haas the ol rope a dope in the 4th set. Classic Ali!

Routines??? you idiot! Haas choked, he led 5-2 and lost it yet again. If it had gone to a fifth Tsonga would have been toast. He has never even won a 5th set match in his entire career. Tommy Haas had the match on his racket like he usually does and he choked it away as usual.

Well exactly he does not have the match experience to win a 5th set as he has never played one. He would have cramped or folded or both. Anyway Tsonga is a great player. Haas choked once again and Tsonga took the match in his hands. He deserved to win. As Haas is a choker and this coming from one of his biggest fans.
But to call this match routine you have to be an idiot.

I think you're mistaking him for Burrow  rubbERR is psycho delpo fanboy, who shits on his idol as much as on everyone else, which is a ton. At the same time, he jumps on everyone who has anything to say about delpo, like a rash really, annoying, worthless, but impossible to ignore

This was anything but routine. Very good showing by both guys, though Tommy lost the plot in the end. I think he was still pissed over that lost break to misfire two BH and practically gift Jo 6:5 to serve it out.

the biggest choke by haas was losing game (he has 2 bp) at 4-1 in 4 set, if he had broken tsonga for 5-1 it wouldn't have been so hard to keep serve in deciding moment. Tsonga in the last set just take advatage of Haas choke.

And you know this how? He looked as energized as ever at the end of the 4th set. Bottomline Tsonga took up his game and Haas could not fend him off. I had a feeling the whole time in the 4th that Tsonga would close it out in the 4th, didn't have that feeling last year with Verdasco. By the way I use the word routine tongue-in-cheek due to the debate in the WWW thread.

He was energized because Tommy got him back into the match. He was not very energized before that moment, in fact Tommy was in total control.
Well I guess we will never know, now the match is over. It doesn't matter, Haas choked and Tsonga did what he had to do. I actually really like Tsonga but for someone to call this match routine well he is either a fanboy or an idiot. Haas was playing so much better in the 4th set before the pressure got to him and he served like shit.
It was all downhill after the break, everyone knows that Haas is mentally fragile. Tsonga did good.
And I wish him luck in the next round. No comment about Tommy.

Tsonga was pretty unhappy with his game here, he said on french TV after the match that he was sluggish and having a hard time getting into the match. I don't really see why as he played pretty well except for a couple of brainfart on serve as usual. If he could stop doing that he'd be mighty hard to touch on serve.

He also said he was really really happy to get away with that fourth set, Haas was playing aggressively and taking the ball early, but he managed to regain his concentration late in the fourth and Haas crumbled after the rebreak. Apparently Tsonga believes he can play much better than that in the coming rounds. I'm a bit skeptical but it'll take something special to beat him if he does.

01-23-2010, 10:07 AM
Tommy didn't sheisse his way out of this one, but he might as well have. You knew he was getting broken at 5-5 given how Tsonga had taken the three previous games. Rather than pause and collect, Haas just went right along and blew that game at love or 15 with at least two UEs when he tried to outhit a redlining Tsonga.

A shame because there was real promise for a good fifth set in what was an entertaining match, to contrast the muggy pushing of most matches this week. Both players could have reached a stable level after tightening their games, which is very possible when going to a fifth in up-down matches. Had such happened, it would have been a great ending.

probably the feeling is mutual. Mourning lasts for around few days, but that is all part of the Tommy fan club.It was very confusing how he managed to lose that 4th set after such a big chance to serve that out. As I've already mentioned I really think that injury was a big part of it, as I couldn't see his famous outbursts.
He started very well, showed us patience, smth that couldn't be seen as usual thing. Two very similar sets, bot of them deserved it. His all around play could have been seen once again, I hope other anti tennis players can follow that example, but most likely they won't..

Except the grade is not given by a professor, its a standardized nationwide exam graded partially by a machine and partially by anonymous graders. Of course a simple google search would let you know that, just as reading my previous post once would have explained the word "routine". Why do you always post without taking the time to think? I really hope there's nothing to that injury talk. I'd expect him to call in a trainer again at the very least. In any case, as much as he blew the chance to go to the fifth largely on his own, he should also be given major props for the way he put himself in that position in the first place. Jo was pretty much untouchable on serve and Tommy played some excellent and gutsy points to take his chances when they arose. 2/3 BP conversion against such a server is just :worship:

He didn't routine anybody, eriet, up to the 7th game of 4th set Haas still had a chance. He got tired and Tsonga still had one gear up. The match wasn't for Haasie to win but he wasn't "routined".

Haas had no serve in the 3rd/4th sets, after the medical for the back. He could survive when his ground game was working and Tsonga's wasn't in the early 4th, but when the cycles reversed a bit he was always toast.

I am sorry to say that Tommy Haas is in fact injured again, he has a problem with his knee and back and will most likely miss several events, he is leaving Australia to go see his doctor, take some tests. Lets hope its not that serious. He was just starting to play well again. He supposedly first started having trouble in his second round match with Janko. :(

It's not that unusual I think - Tsonga was a late developer, and hasn't actually played that many slam matches. He's only actually played around 15 slam matches where the oppponent and him were of similar levels, which unsurprisingly is where 5 setters tend to come from. On top of that he's mediocre on clay, can't find any game in the USA (not a coincidence his best ever result in N America was in French-speaking Montreal), and missed Wimbledon08 through injury.

Great match, really high quality from both players and I'm happy I was there.

It was not really a choke from Haas when he was serving for the set, Tsonga played some great points to break back. Haas played a pathetic game at 5-5 though. Once he was broken back, Haas gave up the 4th set.

If Tsonga cuts out the lapses in concentration and consistently serves a good % he will be a threat for the tournament.
