worst GS Friday in the past 20 years?

Surely this must be the worst Friday ever spare for complete washouts.

RL:

Stosur 64 61
Fed 3-0
Venus 2-0
Hewitt 2-0 ret.

HiS:

Azarenka 62 60
Serena 60 63
Nole 61 61 62

MCA:

Zvonareva 61 75
Davydenko 60 63 64
Verdasco 61 ret.

C3:

Schiavone 62 62
Almugro 3-0

The only somewhat interesting match today was Hantuchova - Li. If Li winning 6-2 in the 3rd against Hantuchova is the highlight of the day at a Grand Slam 3rd round day, you know something is very very wrong. Poor spectators is all I can say.

Wozniacki and Peer are going to have a 4 hour epic

Oh yeah it is Saturday in Australia not Friday

I am not sure a 4 hr moonball fest would make things better. Haas winning 12-10 in the 5th would.

Nice nickname, suits this thread very well!

Yea on paper I can't remember when I was this excited about a third-round day. Youzhny-Kubot was likely going to be the last great sleeper match of the tournament, and I was absolutely PRIMED to watch it. Davydenko-Monaco had potential as Pico seemed to be getting better as his last match went on, Verdasco-Koubek was interesting, and the day was supposed to be ended with a quality Hewitt-Baghdatis scrapfest in Laver and an early-round classic Haas-Tsonga in Hisense.

So one walkover, two early retirements and one straight-set scrubbing. Maybe Haas will take the last one into 5 sets. Or retire, he's already had a back massage.

Not a good day for mens tennis.

Koubek was in bad shape and no way could compete, and Falla / Monaco gave it what they had so I dont blame them.

Isotoner gave the worst performance I have ever seen in a third round. I would not be surprised if he was paid to take a dive. It was that bad.

Baggytits is a puss. Sorry, you dont default in a major unless you are dying.

Haaselhoff tried but he decided to be a dumbass when he served for the fourth set.

I agree. No interesting women's mathes either. Boring

I cannot stop laughing at those with tickets for the RL night session. Hewitt for 1 and a half sets and then Wozniacki inevitably beating a nobody in an hour.

dismal.

the tournament hasn't taken off at all.

It should definitely pick up in the second week. The QF here have more promise than I can remember for a while. And some will always say that the current slam is the worst of the last 20 years.

I knew it was going to be boring judging by OOP, this top half is nowhere near as exciting as bottom half. Fed and Novak's draws have been so easy zzzzzz.

The bottom half has been much better, at least yesterday was very interesting compared to today.

Yes. First, because Murray and Nadal are in the bottom. Change your shorts. Second, because Murray has played Anderson, Gicquel, and Serra.

I at least found Federer's roars of frustration slightly amusing.

Seriously, there have been a few classics already, so not by a long shot.

This Friday, however, had only Tsonga/Haas really worth watching. Pico did his best, but it was really a blowout. That's it.

Im sure Murray's draw has been a snoozefest for non fans, but we've had Nadal tested in a good match, Roddick tested, Del Potro in an epic, Cillic -Tomic match which was good to watch. And Sunday promises to be more of the same.

Whereas in the top half Djokovic is playing Luckas Kubot for a place in the quarterfinals.

Fed doesn't have an easy draw. He has the hardest possible quarterfinal oponent, which can even cost him his #1 rank, and did you really expect him to lose before the quarterfinal ? Besides, he had the hardest 1st round oponent of all top players.

Awful day. But a boring first week means a good second week.

Funny that Tennis Australia based their play schedule around this day.
