Who will win?

Davy will slaughter him. This is a really bad matchup for Verdasco. Maybe the worst possible matchup for him of all the guys left in the draw. At least he will be fresh after the walkover last round.

Hola Mr. SK

606060 Davy wins

The question is whether Verdasco can avoid a bagel? Winner is never in doubt.

It will be a copy of their RG 2009 match.

This is really funny from Davy's presser today:

Q. If you had to marry another Russian tennis player, who would it be?

NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: Marry?

Q. Get married, like husband and wife.

NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: If I married another tennis player? Man or woman? (Laughter.). I have already wife. I have my beautiful wife. I don't want to have any ‑‑

IRINA DAVYDENKO: I hear you.

NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: She's here.

Q. Sorry about that. (Laughter.)

Denko's a contender for this tournament. He'll beat Verdasco in the end.

I think Verdasco might actually win this.

Kolya, hopefully. A Kolya/Fed match is more appealing than Nando/Fed.

Kolya, hopefully. A Kolya/Fed match is more appealing than Nando/Fed.

I like Verdasco more but still want Davydenko to win because I agree that Davy/Fed would make the better quarter-final. Awful 5-8 round of 16 draw for Verdasco who would've stood a better chance against Roddick or Murray in my opinion. Being seeded top 8 is great because you avoid the rest of the top 8 until the quarters, it's a pity Verdasco just missed out.

I'd be highly surprised if Dasco even manages to win a set. Davy in three.

Davy will annihilate Mugdasco 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 or something to that effect.

MrChopin

Verdasco can't hop around and hit like Nadal, so Davydenko will take Verdasco's time away, particularly on the FH. Donkey in 4 just because of Verdasco's fight and fitness, otherwise tight 3.

01-24-2010, 06:00 PM
Just can't see Verdasco doing any damage here. Great defense and early ball-striking are the keys to taking Davy out of his comfort zone and that's just not him.

TennisOnWood
01-24-2010, 06:06 PM
Verdasco must stay calm and focused, and he must bring best out of his forehand

Unfortunately,I can't see him wining this but its bloody davidenko in GS,everything is possible

denko actually has some balls - or at least has shown some defeating nadal and federer.

Yeah, he's defeated Nadal and Federer in what - Masters and other events that are best of three sets, no? ATP Masters Miami '08, and in '09 Shanghai Masters, ATP Tour Finals, and Doha in '10. But can he outlast and outsmart the two best players of the last 5 years in a Grand Slam? That remains to be seen and if he can, then he's officially made it into the elite of the sport.

This will be the battle of the hitters. Davy should prevail, but never underestimate Dasco especially at the AO!

Jolene
01-24-2010, 08:44 PM
I am hopeful that Davydenko will win, but I remember how everyone seemed confident he would beat Sodering at Roland Garros and that that might be his chance to win a slam, and it sure didn't turn out that way.
