Good serving from both, though Roddick had more than enough chances to break. Roddick not knowing the rules on the second match point .

Oh well, at least Lopez played a very good match. Hopefully he can carry it to some more tournaments.

Good match Andy, keep it up against Gonzo (?)

Always good to come through a match like that. For a set and a half it looked like Lopez might get on top. Great to see Andy holding his nerve like a true contender. The match-up seems very comfortable for him but anything can happen first week of a slam.

Ever since that ill-fated Wimbledon final with Fraud, Mugduck seems to have taken a step back in his game instead of going forward. It's not too often when two players step into a tennis court and one of them emerges the biggest clown when the other person is Lopez.

roddick keeping the UEs down. overall not bad overall for him, though someone needs to get him some anti-itch cream pronto for those manly bits. lalo's body language really negative in the 4th set, but good for him taking a set at least. hope he can build on that.

Roddick was hilariously bad on the return of serve, especially in the first set. His resolve to lean on the backhand side was so strong it was bordering on stupid; I think Lopez aced Roddick every single time he shot that first serve towards Roddick's forehand side in the first set.

Anyways, if Roddick doesn't improve soon, I don't see him getting past Del Potro. Even if he's injured.

Not a bad match but Roddick needs to work on his return of serve over the next few days. Stuff won't fly against Del Potro, Murray, or Fed

The net was bulging a bit so he was right again. Didn't decide to go into it again however.

Good match from Andy, he is really almost impossible to beat from the baseline.

Lopez touched the other side of the court, it was very clear on the replay. Should have been Rod's point.

Hardly a surprise. Lopez loves serving to backhands and even nowadays it's considered Andy's weakness.

I didn't see that... So his feet touched the other side of the court? My bad then, I thought Rod complained about him reaching over the net :)

Not his feet I don't think. His racket was over the net in the replay, although not so obvious in live play.

Rule 24g:
"The point is lost if the player or the racket or anything which the player is wearing or carrying touches the net, net posts/singles stick, cord or metal cable, strap or band, or the opponent's court while the ball is in-play;"

Am I misinterpreting this?

Lopez played the ball on the Roddick's side, he could do it if his feet didn't touch the net what happened, so Lopez won that point correctly according to the rules.

Deboogle!.

Anyway, the match was ridiculous. It hurts my eyes to see Andy play so passively

Wait, no~

Isn't there another rule saying that if the ball begins to bounce back to the court of the one who hit it, the opposing player is allowed to strike the ball over the net as long as he doesn't make contact with the net?

Either way, I think his feet touched the net, but still.

The exception is though when the ball bounces on the other side and then bounces back, this is what happened here.

Yes, I had seen it only a couple times earlier but for the first time I saw a point when the ball hit on the opponet's side hit the net after the bounce :D Theoretically you can play the ball on opponent's side in a way that after the bounce the ball backs to your side  I hope to see it someday in the future :)

Sure you can but the easier way out is hit it towards you into the net :D

Roddick still playing passive, in his comfort zone. I reckon he'll have to step out of it a little bit to beat Gonzo.

Roddick to cakewalk to the semis. DelPo looks way too tired, so even if he does make it to face Andy, he's gonna break down, unfortunately.

But then again, my predictions blow >>;

Pretty sure Roddick will be more agressive vs Gonzo  Looking ahead in the draw tho, I favor his chances against playing either JDMP or Cilic so could well make another SF here :yeah:

Jimnik

If Andy does the wrong things he's more than capable of losing to Gonzo or Cilic, like he's done in the past. This section of the draw is very wide open.

I don't often disagree with you, but Roddick game is way flawed as well. His game is serving and pushing. At least Lopez has some style and variety.

LOL. Lopez looked like your "normal" player yesterday more than ever. Apart from some crucial overheads missed during his own service games it was really a good match from him.
