THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Apart from the win, what did you like most about your game tonight?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Well, I really showed the crowd, the people was so exciting all the time. We played very good match.

I think I have many good things right for the next match.

Q. With the exception of the US Open which you won in five sets, how does this compare with the other five‑setters you played?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: I don't know. The time was similar, I think. I play different player. Blake is too fast. He play very strong with his forehand. He never miss easy points, easy forehand.

It's very difficult to keep trying, keep going. You have to be focused every point, every time, and try to take your chance. I had my chance in the last set.

Q. How were you feeling at the end of the third set? What were you thinking?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Well, just keep trying, you know. It's a long match. Here playing five sets, you can lose last two sets and you still have with chance. That's what happen tonight. I was trying every game with my serve. Then when I had the opportunity to broke his serve, sometimes I did, sometimes not.

But I think I have very good things to keep with me for the next match.

Q. You had the trainer out in the fifth set. Are you okay?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Yes. Well, we play a very hard match. Obviously we both needed the trainer many times. But I'm okay.

Q. James did say that he wasn't really happy playing two matches in two days. He would have preferred to play Monday night late. What were your thoughts?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Yeah, was tough for him play two days in a row, five‑set matches. Of course, is difficult. Maybe I had a little lucky because I play on Monday not too long the match.

But he did a very good job today. I don't know. The match goes with me. But he play very good tennis.

Q. James said the second‑serve ace you had at 2‑1 was possibly the turning point. Did you feel that as well?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Yeah, I was thinking to do my best serve, and I did. I had a chance to close the match in 6‑5 serving. He play a great game. I miss all my first serves, so I was a little nervous.

But in the end I was so focused trying to break his serve, and I did in the last game, so...

Q. What do you think about your next opponent, Florian Mayer?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Well, I play with him last year. He's a good player, of course. He beat Troicki. Maybe he's playing very good tennis. I hopefully be ready for next fight. I don't know, maybe I can play three hours better for my physical.

Q. How is your wrist?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: I'm okay. Thank you.

Q. No pain?

JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: A little bit. But I can play.

nah pissed off interviews are much more entertaining. One of my personal faves

David Nalbandian

KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA

Q. What would you say about the match?
DAVID NALBANDIAN: Well, I win and I lose a point. He didn't do much. It was so windy it was difficult.
When I was solid and I played a good point I'd win it, and when I miss it, I miss it. So he didn't do much.

Q. Is it difficult to play against Nieminen because he's changing the tempo all the time? He's hitting really slow and then suddenly he hits much harder? Is it difficult to get into the game against him?
DAVID NALBANDIAN: I've beat him many, many times, so I don't. It's no problem at all.

nah pissed off interviews are much more entertaining. One of my personal favesTalking about Nieminen, DelPo said once when he won to him in a challenger for the first time at 16 years:

"Me dijeron que era bueno pero me pareció medio choto"

Translation: "They told me he was good but for me it seemed kind of bad"

And when he lost versus Murray in RG Junior he said:

"Si me ganó un par de veces, ya le voy a romper el orto"

Translation: "Yes he beat me a couple of times, soon I'm going to break his ass"

typical.

Bullshit media-savvy interviews where the player says absolutely nothing get lauded. As soon as a player says something remotely honest or controversial people are lining up to stone them.

No wonder people think there are no chracters in the game.

And ANYONE can be classy in victory so it means even less. OP must be a fanboy dumbass.

Nadal's interview after losing to Soderling last year at the French

i honestly can't think of many more painful things than having to share a record with that swedish pusher asshole- and a fifth RG would have separated Nadal from that blonde rat

sadly for Rafa he's never going to come close to that again, and even if he makes 7 RGs its not going to be the same- if it was me, it would keep me up every night

the only way Nadal could make up for it is to win 5 RGs in a row- no other way

inspite of all that, Rafa was a gent during his interview-

you know his "wrist injury" is a fake because he's admitting pain (fake pain), where most player always just say they feel good, even when they're not, so as to not look vulnerable.

He said he's fine, and any time you impart spin (aka pretty much every shot these days) the use of the wrist is vital; he played over 400 points yesterday and the wrist seemed ok so I consider it a dead issue.

And yeah, very classy interview. Wait. What?

Always when Delpo wins. You should post an interview when he loses...

When he lost to Davydenko in the TMC final he said something to the effect that Davy played so well that there was nothing he could do. I rarely see top players admit so cleanly that the other player was better (rather than being tired, not playing their best, being unlucky, etc). And when he loses to the top 4 (before he was top 4) he says that the top 4 is much better than him and he has a long way to go to catch up with them. If anything I think he shouldn't overdo the humbleness...

Not Pony's fault that Andy lost to Cilic in the USO ;) .

Seriously, matchup-wise Murray is tough for JMDP but there's absolutely no reason why JMDP won't get a few wins if they meet regularly (which they will).

yes, good interview. good combination of being cool, down to earth, and preserving confidence. usually, if a player is too servile or humble in public, it signals lack of self belief.
