Roddick's post-match outburst against the umpire?

Geo
01-20-2010, 04:29 AM
does anyone know if he will/can be fined for his profanity-filled outburst after beating Bellucci? Are the rules the same or different if a player addresses an umpire in such a manner after a match is finished? I agree Roddick had a play on the ball and the umpire made the wrong call, but Roddick once again shows how much of a jackass he is with this kind of behavior

and of course his worshipper Patty Mac says nothing while it happens :spit: :o

No, it'll be swept under the carpet, just as it was in the past with him.

Should have been kicked out of 2 or 3 tournaments I can think of, and he wasn't even penalised a point.

he should-it's against the rules to swear at linespeople, umpires, ballkids or your opponent. Roddick blatantly swore at the umpire post-match. His behavior as usual is not acceptable.

This is not really unusual behavior for Roddick. Quick to anger, but fair, check out his press conference.

Roddick has already stated in his press conference that he had talked with the umpire outside of the court after the match and they pretty much settled their dispute.

Again, Andy's heated in a match but off the match, he's a good guy. So please don't make it a big deal, as he himself wants to move on as well.

LleytonMonfils

Roddick is man enough to admit when he is in the wrong and that he wasn't 100% right out there on the court with his actions and thoughts like he did in his post match press conference. Serena could learn a thing or two.

for those of you saying " oh wait Roddick realized he was wrong :awww:" it doesn't matter-he still lost his cool again and took it out on an umpire. Other times he'll berate a linesperson. I don't care if Roddick apologizes after his tirades-the fact is-he STILL HAS expletive-filled tirades! He's done it his whole career and he'll keep doing it :o :tape: This is not acceptable yet he's allowed to get away with this behavior most of the time. Once in a while an umpire will have the balls to call him out and issue a warning or a fine, but usually they say nothing :o

People complaining about Roddick's on court behaviour.

There you go.

Andy should be fined for using audible obscenity on a show court, but all he said was 'I think that's bullshit' and 'there's no fucking way you can predict what I was going to do'. He didn't direct his expletives at Fergus, just as Federer didn't in the AO final when he said 'I'll fucking talk when I want to.' Fed got fined, Andy should be fined as well.

Part of the reason that the chair umpires don't go after Andy is because they all know him better than the members of this forum do. They know his behavior is not personal and he's just blowing off steam, being an idiot for whatever reason. He does usually apologize to most of them off court. They are chair umpires, they know how to take it.

On the other hand, I do not like to see him or any other player giving lip to linespeople and that should draw a bigger fine, in my opinion, than abuse to the chair.

Fined??? More like banned for life. They should take away his US Open Trophy. What a poor display of profesionalism he showed. This sets a poor example of every young child who has Roddick as a role modle. The damage he has done to these children is irreversable. I am talking class action lawsuit here from the parrents of these poor children that Roddick has damage.

Thank god we have great role models like Andre Agassi ,snorting lines and whining about how he never liked tennis, to run schools. Or Jim Courier who poses for DUI mugshots and stalks younger male players on the tour. Or maybe Federer who does so much more those less fortunate while living in Dubai.

You guys need to Get real. Cursuing in a tennis match is inexcusable. I think we need to get the US government involved in all Roddicks shenanigans. He may pose a threat to our national defense. Roddick has gone to far with this latest outburst.

This seems to happen when Roddick mistakenly believes he could have got to the ball when he couldn't, or was trying to hit it when in fact he'd left it. It's obviously inspired by insecurity about his poor movement. It's no big deal. Personally I find it quite entertaining.

I can't figure this guy out...

Everytime you learn to like the guy he goes and makes himself look like a whinging jack-ass.

After Wimbledon last year he had converted me and i was "on side" and sympathising with him thinking that he had brought a new approach to his tennis.

Don't know how many people saw it but in his AO R1 match he fell over at the back of the court after colliding with the linesman, and started to lecture the linesman that if the linesman sees a player he should get out of the way. I found this ironic seeing he would have been the first one to complain about the linesman "not doing his job" if he couldn't call the lines because he was too busy getting out of the way of a player and misses a line call....and would have been asking the chair to remove the linesman...

Then obviously there was the incident today with Belluci which has already been spoken about which pushed me further off-side..

There is so much you can tolerate with being colourful and having character, but now i think it's just getting too much towards whinging...

Can someone actually be a "redneck yankee" given that "yankees" are northern cityfolks and "rednecks" are southern countryfolks?

Inside the USA, Yankee means someone from the North of the United States. Outside the USA, Yankee means someone from the United States. In fact, that is why Southerns called Northerners Yankee because the South had separated and started its own new country. The remaining United States (the North) continued to be called Yankees by the South, which was a quasi-different country at that point. The name stuck.

As for Yankees being cityfolks, that's simply not true. There are plenty of people in the North who live in rural areas. And rednecks do not have to be Southern. There are rednecks in places as disparate as Montana, Wisconsin, and Western Pennsylvania.

You've seen all 1500 players with ATP points play? That's fucking impressive. I haven't seen that many, but in the last few years I've seen at lot and I can say that yes, lots of them behave similarly to Roddick but they don't often play on TV courts at Slams and Masters in front of the whole world, so you don't see it. Doesn't excuse Andy's behavior one bit and he should definitely know better at his age and his years on tour, but he's human and he mouths off from time to time. When he menaces a linesperson or hits a ball directly at the chair, that's when he'll lose me as a fan.

As for his incident yesterday, he admitted he was wrong in his press conference, he spoke directly to Fergus after he watched the replay, and he has apologized on his twitter page for forgetting to shake Fergus' hand in the midst of arguing with him.

As I said in the other thread, all of these chair umpires know him better than the members of this forum, they know he's just being stupid and letting off steam, and they do not take it personally (and I know this because one of them told me that a few years ago).

I dunno, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Roddick, better or worse, acts like a real human being, with moods, and a temper, and displays that he should not do, and acts that make you warm to him.

I find that infinitely better than some artificial media construct who always behaves when the camera is on, selling you a wholesome family image, but turns out in private to be a freaky sex addict engaged in a bizarre game of "how many skanks can you bang?" one-upmanship against himself.

It'd be okay if Roddick was actually right. But, he did lose the point fairly. He stopped moving when it hit the ground, thinking it was going out, then the call 'out' came from the linesmen, at the same time he was about to challenge it. Then he starts being a bitch saying the ump is wrong.
