Gonzo was just too solid.

Marsel.

Ilhan seems decent for his ranking but is no match for Gonzo.

Scoreline is a bit muggish for Gonzo... he might face Korolev next :spit:

Yeah no way he couldn't avoid Gonzo using his cannon forehand at some points.

At least Ilhan has a decent touch and he can use tricky angles pretty good.

Lots of Turkish fans at the match.

Fernando into the third round reasonably comfortably! :)

Marsel

Gonzo :clap2: Just too good.
It was very noisy match, like a football derby.:aparty:

Never in doubt, though I thought Ilhan would get to a tiebreak at least, some of his decisions at the net were just terrible.

 At the turkish crowd, gave the match a good atmosphera. They were lucky to play Gonzalez in that regard, most players would've complain about the noise.

DC atmosphera out there, good for Gonzo to seal the deal in straights, too bad the problem in the knee.

Zhenya will be tough to beat, hope Feña could reach Roddick.

Ilhan looked not bad, especially for a LL :yeah:

As I said in the match report thread, I had a total blast being there live and singing along with the Chileans:)

Got a fiver on Gonzo reaching the final, which would get me a cool 165 back :)

Marsel played decent but he really has no penetration in his shots to hurt a player of Gonzo's caliber. All rallies were played on Gonzo's term, ending with Gonzo blasting a forehand for a winner. More often than not he landed them in since Marsel couldn't put him under pressure and fed Gonzo with gentle floaters.
In the final set Marsel started going for his first serve more and finally won some free points in his service games. He also started reading the out wide Gonzo slider serves a little better.

All in all, the difference between a ~150 player and top 15 player was very visible. Great experience for Marsel, hope he builds up on this.

As for the Turkish fans, I know they couldn't have known any better on when and how to cheer since tennis has just appeared on the radar in Turkey. They were yelling during ball tosses and before the end of every change over. Other than that I guess it was a really fun atmosphere for a tennis match. Gonzo took all that extremely well and I think all that commotion hurt Marsel's game in the first set and a half by distracting him. If the score was closer with say Marsel winning a set, I wonder how the Turkish and Chilean crowds would have had shout matches etc.
