Should've won it in 3 sets, and up a break in the fifth set as well. There's definitely something wrong with his mentality. alter ego 01-19-2010, 12:10 PM Great match, I think. just saw the last part of it. asmazif 01-19-2010, 12:10 PM :( like last year. good match. gaitare 01-19-2010, 12:10 PM So painful. scoobs 01-19-2010, 12:10 PM very entertaining, dramatic match. the quality in the third and fourth sets was very good for long stretches, well played points. The standard dropped in the fifth but the drama kept going as it ebbed and flowed from one player to the other. That was exhausting just to watch. Arhaych 01-19-2010, 12:10 PM Youzhny was the one finding the white lines in the last three sets. Which is somewhat ironic. Voo de Mar 01-19-2010, 12:14 PM Epic match :yeah: If I'm not mistaken, Gasquet lost his 5-setter (Gonzalez) in Melbourne last year from 2-0 in sets and match point up on the same Margaret Court Arena. Cyrus_Paice 01-19-2010, 12:16 PM Very entertaining clown-match with predictable outcome. Must hurt so much to keep on blowing these 2-0 leads, Youz today, Gonzo last year, Murray at Wimbledon in 08, must be others too. Hope he can have a good year after the unfair way he was treated last year. muniu 01-19-2010, 12:19 PM Very entertaining clown-match with predictable outcome. Certinfy 01-19-2010, 12:20 PM Awesome match, and Youzhny :worship: Filo V. 01-19-2010, 12:21 PM Such a gutsy performance from Youzhny. He dug deeper and found a way to win when he was cramping. Don't feel bad for Gasquet either really, as he has lost these types of matches in the past, and had several chances to win this match. He isn't tough enough mentally or physically. Puschkin 01-19-2010, 12:21 PM :bigcry: Maybe it was good that I could not see it. silverwhite 01-19-2010, 12:21 PM Shameful pushing at 7-6 6-4 6-7 6-5 40-30* said it all. Fortune favours the brave and Youzhny deserved to win. :yeah: orangehat 01-19-2010, 12:23 PM I just hope Richie is fine with his mentality, because it's good to see that his FH has quite major improvements (even though still lots of moonballs at times). Now he just needs to work on improving that serve percentage and fitness. I hope this doesn't undo all the hard work done by eroding his confidence though. Misha :yeah: Hopefully this match can give him enough confidence to go deep here. Although it was always terrible that 2 of my favourites had to meet in R1. Rafa = Fed Killa 01-19-2010, 12:23 PM Classic Gasgirl. Shame they had to play each other so early. Hope they both have a decent year. Davai Misha. nestingus 01-19-2010, 12:50 PM Pains me to the soul just watching it... Mateya 01-19-2010, 01:16 PM Just an awesome match, I watched the last two sets. Gasquet should of won it in 3 or 4 or 5 at worst, but he is one of the biggest headcases in top100 at the moment. Choke of the year so far - and you know I'm a rational poster who rarely uses this word + a PHM fan :) Talent: Gasquet >>> Youzhny Mentality: Youzhny >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gasquet They were both suffering and cramping towards the end, Youzhny even more...Richie just couldn't take advantage of that and he was too defensive or scared to hit the ball hard. And with Youzhny fighting like crazy there was only one winner on the end. Richie was 4-2 up in the fifth and even if he was 4-0, I'm quite sure he would lose this. ~*BGT*~ 01-19-2010, 01:24 PM Not again :sobbing: Deathless Mortal 01-19-2010, 01:27 PM Awesome win, I predicted 3-2 for Youzhny :D Deathless Mortal 01-19-2010, 01:28 PM Talent: Gasquet >>> Youzhny Mentality: Youzhny >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gasquet I don't think it's possible Youzhny has so much bigger mentality than anybody  Let's face it, they're both mental midgets. Didn't Youzhny have a factor in his winning as well? I mean the guy does have some talent. I think he should be given some credit. Experimentee 01-19-2010, 02:21 PM It was a great match, dramatic and high quality. I'm glad I was there and stayed till the end, even though I have to work early tomorrow. Gasquet looked in control for the first two sets and a half, and I only started to think Misha could win when he saved two match points in the 4th set. 2nd match point was a choke from Gasquet, the first was saved by Youzhny. In the end Youzhny was the more solid player and physically and mentally stronger than Gasquet, who was really struggling at the end and looking like he had cramps. Match lasted almost 5 hours. Youzhny deserved it. ossie 01-19-2010, 04:18 PM gasquet? i thought that crackie was banned for life? guy in sf 01-19-2010, 04:45 PM It's so disheartening to know that Gasquet loses most of these important matches because he can't close them out. He always has the lead and then folds. Exactly the same result as last year wasting chances and match points to players obviously not as talented as he is. Maybe he should concentrate on the THIRD set since he's gotten in this pattern lately of losing the last 3 after winning the first 2. Dougie 01-19-2010, 04:50 PM What a sad result. Ritchie would have needed this for his confidence, after all that happened last year. Hope he gets over it. Vida 01-19-2010, 05:07 PM bad draw early on for both. Bagelicious 01-19-2010, 05:13 PM bad draw early on for both. Yeah, it's nice to have interesting first round matches, but it sucks when it's two players I like against each other! I'm happy for Youzhny's win :D, but sad for Gasquet's loss. :( It's very bipolar. Dougie 01-19-2010, 06:23 PM Aftr watching the fourth and fifth set, I have to say Youzhny totally deserved it. After they both started suffering from cramps, Richie did pretty much nothing, whereas Youzhny played nice angles and low slices, and made Gasquet use his feet even more. It was only a matter of time he won it. Paradoxically, the decisive point seemed to have been Youzhny´s netted drop shot in the first point of the last game. He lost the point, but made Gasquet run from way back to the net. Ritchie´s legs must have been burning, and it was pretty much over after that. Very smart display from the Colonel. Allez 01-19-2010, 06:25 PM This proves Richard should have been banned for 2 years and maybe she would have come back a lot hungrier. Has the gut ever enjoyed tennis. Some major internal turmoil going on there. Its sad becuase he is probably the most talented guy on the tour and does not seem to be arrogant about it. Its really hard for me to watch him and not feel for the guy. I think he would be better off just going coachless for a while. I am glad he is back though. Nobody moves quite like Gasguet. Reminds me of a Micheal Chang but his upper body is frozen like a statue. | |
