Who thinks Tommy Haas might be a surprise semifinalist at the Aussie 2010!

No one is talking about Tommy Haas but the Australian Open is by far his most successful slam, he has definitely had his best results there. He is a 3 time Semifinalist at the Aussie Open and this year he has a nice draw. There is no one in his section of the draw that he hates playing. In Head to Head he leads Tsonga 1-0(last year in two sets), he leads Soderling 3-1(only time he has lost was due to retirement on clay, the other victories were rather easy), leads Almagro 1-0(easy two set win), he is 2-2 with Djokovic but he has beaten him the last two times that they have played (both times last year). Also leads Gasquet 2-1, Youzhny 3-2(one of his loses was due to a retirement), Robredo 2-1. Tipsy will be a test in round 2 (but there is no way Tommy is losing to him, not in 3/5).
This is a very favorable draw for Tommy Haas, he likes playing against everyone that is in this section.
I think he might surprise a lot of people once again.;):p He is always really dangerous at the slams and especially down under!

If he plays well I would defo not count him out of making the SF, but I feel the likes of Tsonga and Djokovic will be too good for him here.

It´s possible, but Tommy´s always a big question mark. I´d like to see it happening, though.

No reason he shouldn't do it. Played bad at Kooyong but was still moving great.

It won't be a surprise... Tommy has ability to do that just like that. He has done that before so why not?

if Haas is in good shape, surely possible though I don't want it to happen

For the reason alone that he already lost all 3 Kooyong matches 3 years ago before making the Aussie Open SF makes it doubtful in my eyes that he'll be able to do it again. Of course I'd love to be proven wrong. :D

He always passes the third round, it is most likely he will be in the 4th round or better. Semis wouldn't surprise me at all.

He hasn't won a set in Kooyong. His first is outrageously bad.

So no.

exo's doesn't matter much. In my eyes, anything big he can achieve won't be a surprise, but looking from a distance it will be a surprise, firstly because he's been so underrated from month to month. I'm sure you all 'knew' he would make semis at Wimbly, but I wasn't surprised at all. He has talent to do great things ,it's just, he isn't as consistent as a great player like him needs to be. I won't speak of his troubles throughout his career, but simply that was the main problem he couldn't establish that constituency.

You're forgetting about Tipsarevic and that is a really tough opponent in the second round. I don't think he will get through him. If he does, he can do great things though.

With last year's form he could do it on his own. All his opponents could also suffer... unfortunate injuries after a... speeding car ran them over on their way to the match. I'm not saying lengjai is behind it, but I'm not saying he isn't either.

maybe, but his records and comeback in last year were pretty much the same as those in his best days.. He said it and we witnessed it ;)

I already mentioned Tipsy! He is gonna be a real test early but I don't see him beating Tommy in 3/5 at a slam. As for the exo in Kooyong, Tommy never does good in them. Last time he made the semis of the Aussie Open he lost all three matches just as well.
Tommy is unpredictable but when his game is on he can beat just about anyone and he has proven that over the years(just last year).
And I rather like the draw he got this year. There are great players in there but no one he hasn't beaten before. No one he hates playing. All his matches are winnable.

I think Tommy has a lot more tennis left in him but we will have to wait and see. I do think he is rather underrated for all his great talent.(He was one of the most talented of his generation and one of the biggest underachievers).
