AO R128 Murray - Anderson

Kinda like this matchup, could become interesting. Wouldn't be surprised if this is gonna be the Scot's toughest match in rounds 1-3. Giraffe Man eased through qualifying in three straight set victories without getting broken and seems to cope well with the surface, while it's Murray's first competitive match since the Finals last year. Come on Kevin :rocker2:

Murray in 3, but will have to work for it.

Not really the type of player Murray struggles against - the returns and the slices are just too effective.

Bout time Anderson did something again though, he looked so impressive at Las Vegas and Miami in 2008.

If Anderson plays well he may get a set :)

Kinda sad both of them are playing each other early tho, would have liked Anderson to win a match or two...

I think that it should be a relatively comfortable straight-sets win tbh. Anderson has a good serve (although not the most effective for a guy of 6'8) and moves surprisingly well for his height...but I don't see him doing Muzza too much damage from the back. From memory, Kev likes to volley a little as well, but generally Muzza is a nightmare for anyone wanting to do that against him.

Hope he takes something positive from the experience and builds on it in the coming months. As 'arf says, he looked good a couple of years ago but sadly couldn't push on.

Should be a 3 set Murray win but i think he will have his work cut out for him and it wont be as simple as you would think. Murray to win in something like 6-4 7-5 6-4

murray leads 6-0, 6-0, 5-0 . anderson retires due to extensive running which cause his big balls to drop down on the floor. three squirrels then sees the opportunity for big nuts. after intense battle by the three squirrels battling for the big nuts. one squirrel got kicked in the balls and die instantly. the end.

A fair amount of people have picked Anderson and with very good reason. Obviously either guy could win this match and either one guy is going to win the match or actually it could be the other guy. Murray reckons he is ready for slam success now but he hasn't reached a major final since 2008. I reckon Anderson will take this in 4 tight sets, but supposing that Anderson doesn't win the match then I should imagine that Murray will likely end up being the winner against Anderson.

Peace...

Murray has had tremendous success in the early stages of slams recently, to be fair.

Because he's a bigger name than Del Potro. And before you start crying, that has nothing to do with who the better player is. Murray simply recieves more media exposure and, for that reason, he is a bigger draw.

The ribbing you got earlier at the TW board was pretty freaking hilarious and the guys apparent ignorance and stupidity was hilarious. Didn't he end up accusing you of bias because you are British in response to you stating that bigger name doesn't have to equate to better player?

LOLAPLEXUS.

Good point, as both Del Potro and Roddick are on the Hisense Arena, which confuses me, as I think both are more worthy of a place on Rod Laver Arena.

Huh? Potro on RLA ahead of murray....NO Way. Murray is bigger name than Del-potro..trust me if pony was on RlA arena today about half the stadium would be empty..the only way he is getting on Centre court is by getting a big name (james blake) in rnd 2. As for Roddick..hes on about the same level as Murray and will probably rotate with him for the rest of the week.
Oyea Del potro dosent care bout his fans and dosent deserve a place on the great stadium ROD LAVER ARENA

I didn't think he would, I hoped. There is a fundamental difference.

A big reason Murray is on RLA is perhaps because of his nationality, a big draw for all the ex-pats in Australia.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that. They think it somehow reflects who the organisers believe the better player is. Murray is simply a bigger name in Australia than the likes of Del Potro. They are obviously going to put the bigger draw on the main court.

Exactly, the average punter who goes to the tennis once a year here in Australia is more likely to know who Murray is as opposed to someone like Del Potro, Djokovic or Davydenko.
