Another unnecessary loss for the next big thing. Served for first set, but got broken and lost the TB. Decent 2nd set but then a bad third set. So far for the AO this year.

Just noticed the result. Losing to a one-dimensional Kendrick is quite bad to be honest.

I am not Dimitrov's fan, although I like his game, but here are GOAT's results when he was 18 y.o.:

with defeats to Mirnyi, Wessels, Sargsian, Pescariu, Balcells, Pozzi and Boutter - I thought this guy was meant to be the next GOAT

:wavey:

Some people should understand the basics of tennis before starting posting on a board like this, maybe some invitational test for new users ?

Uniformed post to be honest. Kendrick's career has played out the way it has because he's a mental midget. Whether or not you think he is one-dimensional it doesn't change that fact that he has a damn big game.

Yeah, Kendrick is a beast when he's on his game. So rare he does it at tour level though, bout the only major one was beating the Toad in last year's Miami.

I'm not sure why most people thinks he will make something big in tennis... he is almost 19 and can't even pass 1st round of qualifying for GS

Of course, others juniors are nothing better then him,and that's not good

when was the last time Dimitrov reached the SF of an ATP tournament?

or the QF?

this comes with the comparison to Roger's year at the same age

It's still too early to think about Dimitrov's career, hopefully he doesn't get overhyped a-la Donald Young and he also needs to start playing more challengers and qualies than receiving ATP wildcards just to lose in the first round all the time

Dimitrov needs match rhythm and he won't get it by using a WC and getting a top player against him in the first round

Kendrick should be back in form, he has been playing horrible tennis recently. Losing a set to Dimitrov is not very good either.

Exactly, Federer made several quarters & one semi at tour-level events that year. Nothing stellar by Becker, Borg, Nadal, or Wilander standards, but steady progress of a kind we've yet to see from Dimitrov.

Dimitrov is younger than all the players ranked above him so I think he deserves some slack. It's harder to break into the top 100 now than it was ten years ago.

We've seen a whole host of players with lovely ball striking ability who never made it even to top 15, BUT he may still end up nr 1 at, say, 23. He really has trouble with closing out sets/matches, though.

I'm sorry, but the real prospects don't lose in the first round of qualies when they are, what, nearly 19? I'm not impressed by this kid.

Where is forehander? sad to see him base his life on this failure of a player.

True. Time runs out surprisingly fast. He should already be showing some kind of progress.

I saw him play at Wimby last year and thought he was really overrated then. But that coming from me prob means he will win about 50 slams.

He needs to play more challengers, more qualies, get dirty, grow, get mature, and then kick everyone's butt. If he's really that good he'll do it.
