Hope it's precautionary, disappointing for the people in Auckland but any slight niggle before a Slam then this sort of thing is going to happen.

So do you know who will take his place? A lucky loser isn't it?

Just found this on the net

David Nalbandian has been forced to withdraw from Auckland's Heineken Open.

Nalbandian, who is returning from injury after being ranked as high as three in the world, suffered an abdominal strain while practising for the Heineken and made a late decision to withdraw. His place will be taken by Inigo Cervantes-Huegun.

It's disappointing for the Auckland event with the Argentine considered a big draw card and will require some changes to the draw.

An MRI confirmed the strain and Nalbandian's Australian Open participation is now also in doubt. Oh No!

the only person who's happy with Nalby's withdrawal is this guy:

Nalbandian said this after withdrawing:

"I am very disappointed not to be able to make my comeback this week at the Heineken Open," he said. I was very much looking forward into playing in Auckland once again.

"I didn't play much tennis for eight months so it is natural to suffer some small injuries. Although I am disappointed at the moment, I remain confident and positive about making a full time come back to the tour soon.

"I thank tournament director Richard Palmer for giving me the wild card and the opportunity to resume my career and I hope to come back next year and play in front of the kiwi crowd."

Abdominal strains followed other injuries for both Nadal and now Nalbandian. Obviously I really hope he's better for the Australian Open.

Wow, Nalbandian must be even more popular in New Zealand than on MTF, it's like front page news here.

So devestated, with him gone theres like no decent players whatsoever in the draw, can only bandwagon the local wildcard and hope for the best.

Was so looking foward to watching him play.

David Ferrer is up tomorrow though, he can put on a shiner :)

Let's be patient and see if he will play AO. He still has several good years of tennis in him...these little setbacks are momentary and no cause for such negativity.

Very sad news indeed...
To be honest I doubt he'll ever manage to get back at full strength. Age is getting up with him, and then there's having to deal with these injuries...

He is out of Australian Open with a 6 mm abdominal tear which causes him too much pain to serve.

Pathetic..... just pathetic..... This injury-prone fat-bottomed clown who doesn't know the meaning of diet, plays a couple of decent matches in his washed up career taking advantage of the opponents mental lapses and he gets a wagonfull of fanboys here, who scream GOAT every time he munches on a hamburger. Keep crying everytime he pulls of an injury excuse to satisfy his carnal hunger. The only thing fatso is ever going to win is an 'all you can eat' buffet.
