Has Mario Ancic Retired?

Has Mario Ancic officially retired because at this point I can't see him ever returning to the top 20.

His case of mono must have been pretty severe as it's ruined his career while Federer's mono just put him off his game for several months.

Ancic completed his law degree so he has that to do I guess.

He'll play a challenger in a week or two and should be back this season if all goes well for a change.

he starts the comeback the second week of AO. finally got a green light from the doctors...he should finally be able to play a whole season. his long-term goal is to make it back into the top10.

I have had "real" mono - it is nasty and can fuck you around for a long time.

As for him being retired, I hope not. I miss the hotness, not going to lie.

Agreed. It basically destroyed my grades for a whole semester in college. Something I never want to go through again. I've never felt so weak, or just helpless in my life.

What's the point asking if he has retired when he is on an entry list in 2 weeks? It seems to be an mtf thing. The same happened with Haase, when someone started a "Where is Haase?" thread on the day he came back. Now watch someone starting a thread about Muller in a couple of days.

Yeah good luck to Mario but I doubt he can make it back to even near the top 10.

I had to defer University for a year because of mono - I was sleeping 18-2o hours a day and even when I was getting better, I was still very tired and sleeping 13 hours a day for like, 3 months after it. It was a year before I really recovered properly.

Ancic said he will concentrate on low level tournaments, challengers and he even mentioned futures in an big interview on croatian TV; he needs match practise and he won't play bigger events until IW and Miami

If you have Mono, you can barely walk from your bed to the bathroom without feeling exhausted, let alone play tennis.

Fed lies.

So what did federer have in early 2008?

Why has a thread about Ancic turned into a thread about Federer?

Because if Federer didn't have mono in early 2008 (which is the illness that wrecked ancic's career then I'm curious to know what it actually was that affected federer's form in early 2008.

I just read an article that said that federer told the the media in march of 2008 that he had been diagnosed with mono, so perhaps it was a very mild case as he was able to keep playing and stay inside the top 2?

we all know that(the lamest ever)excuse.
that's sad because he's kinda offended so many ppl who had been suffered from mono, like kell 'n lleytonmonfils here.

i wouldn't say lies,he is so full of arrogancy to tell-i'm off form gyes,i'm just an ordinary gye.prick.

There are different degrees of mono, or at least it affects people differently. Sounds like Mario had a severe case which is not uncommon. Although he's not one of my favorite players it is too bad to see his career go down the tubes from something like that. He has had it tough but nice to know he at least has used his brian to get a law degree.

I had mono in high school, was diagnosed by 2 blood tests but only after I felt really tired/weak for about 5 weeks. But during those 5 weeks, I went to school everyday, played in tennis tournaments (played like shit), etc. but knew something wasn't right. When I found out what it was the doctor made me have complete bedrest for about 2 weeks and then all was O.K. confirmed by another blood test. So the arrogant Federer actually could have had "real" mono and didn't know it until later and yes it could have affected his game but not enough to take him out completely for months.

There is only one "mono"...not several !!!
I had one it's nothing more than a flu...1 month later I was fully recovered so I guess Ancic has another illness than mono, something more serious than a mono

Mono is like any illness, there are extreme cases either side. Fed obviously had a very mild version (I say this becauase if he'd had the version I had then he wouldn't be able to get out of bed let alone play tennis and win), Mario has had a severe case.

I was very bad for 3 months when I had it and had relapses for periods of a few weeks at a time for about 2 years after. It also weakened my immune system a lot. I pick up all sorts of viruses now, never did before and I never had asthma before i had mono.

Terrible luck.

Isner had it as well in the middle of last year and didnt seem to take too long to recover from it either but according to him it certainly knocked him around whilst he had it.

Mono can vary in severity. Fed must have had a pretty mild case of it, and Ancic has/had a really intense case. It doesn't make Federer a liar.

This is exactly the kind of mono I had. For about a month I felt like something was wrong, always tired, sore throat, any exrcise would make me tired and exhausted instantly. But I still went to school, worked, practiced etc. Only after a month or so I was diagnosed with mono, after that it was a couple of weeks of rest ( byt then I was REALLY sick)and that was basically it. So it´s not always like Ancic had, there are also milder cases.

So you think because you've fully recovered in only one month (you're very lucky !), everybody must recover in such a short time ?! Like everybody in here says, mono can vary in intensity...

So you guess he has had another illness, let met laugh... are you a doctor ??

Correction: Federer said he had a test that showed he had "strong mono."
