James in 2010: Australian Open campaign.

James's draw in Brisbane:

[5] QUERREY, Sam (USA) vs BLAKE, James (USA)
GICQUEL, Marc (FRA) vs PETZSCHNER, Philipp (GER)
SERRA, Florent (FRA) vs QUALIFIER
DENT, Taylor (USA) vs [3] MONFILS, Gael (FRA)
So odd to see James being unseeded :( :o

I hope he can have a good comeback in Australia!

Blake leads 5-1 in the Head-to-Head against Querrey (but each times it was a difficult match : 5 matches in three sets and 5 tie breaks !) It's gonna be difficult but if Blake go trough this match he will probably go easier to the quaterfinal (maybe against Monfils).

Comon James !

Sam is a tough 1st Round match. He's just back after the arm injury, so who knows how well he will be. I like James' chances, that is unless Querrey turns into the ace-hitting machine he was at Indianapolis '07. :scared:

So odd to see James being unseeded :( :o I think I'm used to it outside of slams since he wasn't seeded at most of his tournaments last fall. But being ranked at #44 now, he's extremely unlikely to be seeded for the Australian Open - the first time he would be unseeded at a slam since the 2005 US Open. The good thing about his low ranking is he won't be required to play at four 500 events this year.

James and Andy Roddick won their 1st doubles match over a strong pair Levinsky/Parrot 6-2 6-3
Good start of the season! :worship:

it's really important for James to begin this year with some good results, i still belive in James' abilities and skills, even though he's 30 now. can't wait to see him on the court;)

it does, especially when it comes to his wallet:devil::D

it does, especially when it comes to his wallet:devil::D He's gotta add to the retirement fund! I didn't even notice the racquet change in the recent pics. I wonder why nothing was said about this.

If anyone's awake - James is playing Sam right now, middle of 2nd set. ;)

James beat Sam 4-6 6-3 6-4. :D

I didn't start watching until the end of the 1st set, so I'm not sure what happened there. But he looked like his usual self - aggressive and going for shots, lots of winners and errors. He was really bashing the hell out of the ball. He hit a couple fast return-of-serve winners that made the crowd gasp real loud.
Good start to the year for James. :yeah:

James will face Gicquel in the 2nd Rd. H2H is 2-0 - last meeting was in Estoril last year.

Good job James! Next match is very winnable too :D

If James had won with him on clay, he wins on hardcourt;) Tomorrow James and Andy plays their singles matches, and also at the end of the day they play doubles.

oh my god:eek: maybe it's better i didn't watch this match cause i could die because of emotions! good job, good luck in QF against Monfils tomorrow...:)

Very tough win for James saving 3 MP  :worship:  I wasn't even online yesterday, so I was surprised when I saw that result just now. Nice job toughing out the win. :)

Monfils is going to be a tough match. James leads their H2H 2-1, but they've never played on hard court (which is surprising) and the last time they met was at the 2007 Rome Masters - that's ages ago in tennis years. Monfils was on court longer than James in his singles matches this week against Dent and Serra (4 of the 6 sets were TB's), so it's not like he's been demolishing his opponents. Monfils is also faster on court than James, so this match could be real interesting. To bad I won't be able to see it. :(

James & Andy beat Melo & Soares in their QF double match yesterday. :)

So I see James lost against Monfils in 3. Not surprising, but at least he fought hard. He's still alive in doubles though. He & Andy will face Chardy/Gicquel on Saturday. ;)

James played some matches so far, it's good for him before AO... I hope he will repeat last year result, at least!;D and of course good luck for him and Andy in doubles SF;)

KarlyM
01-09-2010, 06:38 AM
James & Andy lost the doubles SF - 4-6 6-3 11-13. :awww:
I was watching the livescore (how fun!). Their 2 DF's and 0/4 on 2nd serve points in the super-TB did them in.

mateusz2904
01-09-2010, 07:36 PM
they could have won it:D it would be good for James to play one short match more before AO;) i've just read some raltions from matches against Gicquel and Monfils, and i think that James is good prepared for this season. but we'll be sure during AO;)

A good start to his season in Brisbane. To begin the season with some wins was very important. Singles and doubles, he did good. It's good he seems to have gotten over all the annoying injuries he had last year, and looks fit and healthy. :) I'll be supporting James 100%, good luck to him at the AO. :yeah:

The AO draw is out - James' section of draw (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/draws/ms/r1s3.html).

The good news - he faces Clement in R1 (7-0 H2H) **Clement made the Auckland final this week**

The bad news - he will face Del Potro in R2.

James is defending 4th round ranking points, so his ranking will be heading south again... :awww:

FlameOn
01-15-2010, 09:23 AM
Fourth round isn't THAT many points. Let's just see what happens. I don't think a well-playing James beating Del Potro is that hard to imagine.

DartMarcus
01-15-2010, 11:04 AM
Draw is really hard, but we all know, that for James his own condition is always more important then who is on the other side of the court :D

Poor draw. It's disappointing. I guess we can count on that James will test JMDP.

The Men's Doubles draw (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/draws/md/index.html) is out.
James & Mardy teamed up (James filling in for the injured Mark Knowles) and are the #16 seed. :) They face Marc Lopez & Santiago Ventura in the 1st Round. If they play well, they will likely face the Bryans in the 3rd Round.

Day 1 OOP (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/schedule6.html) - James is last on Court 6 not before 5pm (which is 1am ET). Court 6 is one of the six courts listed for the AO official site online stream, so it must have a camera for TV.

I hope James gets to play on Laver at some stage (probably R2). It'll be the only way I can see him.

Day 2 OOP (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/schedule7.html) --> James is 3rd on Court 6 today. He never got on court yesterday due to all the rain delays. The weather is supposed to be better today. :)

Extra day of wait can't hurt. It'll give him more time to get ready. :)

I saw a few games during second set, James played really good, great drop shots, passing shots, some huge forehands. I hope he will show us even better game tomorrow. GL

Day 3 OOP (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/schedule8.html) --> James faces Del Potro on Hisense Arena. It will be last after the Safina match.

James did a great job in his match yesterday. :) The stats were good - 63% 1st serve, 9 aces, no DF's, 49 winners , only 26 errors, won 77% of net approaches. :)
I'm not expecting him to beat Del Potro, but it should be an interesting match. Who knows how Del Potro will play with the wrist problem, but James does have a good shot. :)

Also, James & Mardy may have pulled out of doubles. The OOP has another team moved in their place as a #17 seed. The draws are not updated yet so I'm not sure. Mardy did have trouble with his knee during his loss in singles, so it wouldn't be surprising.

I think James did a good job. :)
Despite the problem with his knee (and later arm/shoulder), he kept hanging in there and fighting hard. He didn't look nervous at all in the 5th set, just frustrated when he missed those 2 easy shots at the end. I like how he wasn't going for broke all the time and was making some smart plays. He also seems more confident at the net.

His stats were good:

http://i48.tinypic.com/dpephj.jpg

After such a rough 2009, it's nice to see he can nearly beat a recent HC slam winner who's nearly a decade younger than him. :yeah:
