Mardy's 2010 Cheering Thread: Going for a deep run in IW and Miami

12-27-2009, 11:42 AM
Mardy will play Brisbane, Sydney and finally Australian Open. Unfortunately he is unlikely to be seeded anywhere, as he fell out of top 50
Hope Mardy can comeback strong!

12-28-2009, 01:17 PM
:( hopefully he's healthy, at least! :bounce:

12-29-2009, 02:33 PM
When I saw the Bryan Bros band at the beginning of the month, I asked Bob about Mardy's knee, and he said it was just a minor surgery to get cartilage out or something like that, and that he was already hitting again, so hopefully he will stay healthy all year!!

01-02-2010, 07:11 AM
FISH, Mardy (USA) vs BAGHDATIS, Marcos (CYP)
LLODRA, Michael (FRA) vs LEVY, Harel (ISR)
CHELA, Juan Ignacio (ARG) vs [8] BELLUCCI, Thomaz (BRA)
It could be worse?

01-02-2010, 08:37 PM
Definitely could be worse! I'm very interested to see how this whole doubles thing goes, in relation to his singles career!

01-05-2010, 03:43 AM
Well, he lost to Baghdatis, he dropped serve at 5-6 in each set and he'd been up a break in the 2nd. He was just making a lot of mistakes, didn't seem to have his rhythm. His knee's still taped, too.

01-05-2010, 03:29 PM
He still played beautiful tennis sometimes :yeah:

01-11-2010, 06:19 AM
What happened to Mardy and Mark Knowles in Syndey? They won the 1st game and then retired. Something happened to Mardy or Mark? I am upset

01-11-2010, 02:48 PM
aw man :( The ATP site says "Knowles - calf" so hopefully it's nothing serious for either of them.

01-12-2010, 04:37 AM
Pretty routine win over Ball in the first round of Sydney. Keep it up :yeah:

01-13-2010, 01:11 AM
 mardy just beat Korolev 6-1 6-2, good win!

01-13-2010, 05:33 AM
Nice win! Next is Luczak who upset Berdych.

01-14-2010, 04:17 PM
Mardy won another match :woohoo:
Semis vs Baghdatis will be interesting!

01-14-2010, 05:16 PM
Very awesome :)

01-14-2010, 05:47 PM

01-15-2010, 11:09 AM
Mardy lost an epic thriller vs Baghdatis. He saved several MP, but could not hold his lead in 3rd set. Had some great volleys at some moments
His draw in Melbourne:
Stepanek (13) vs Karlovic
Benneteau vs qualifier
Fish vs Golubev
Kubler vs Ljubicic (24)
Kohlschreiber (27) vs Zeballos
Isner vs Odesnik
Lack vs L.Mayer
Luczak vs Nadal (2)

01-15-2010, 01:05 PM
I'm recording it at home right now, can't wait to watch it tonight!
Not too bad of a draw :)
I'm bored, sick and don't feel like working... so pics :)

01-15-2010, 01:13 PM

01-15-2010, 01:34 PM
All we have to Mardy to reach R3 and we have to cheer for Karlovic and Isner, so that they would do 80% of job for our guy :D
Karlovic to beat Stepanek 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-7 25-23 and then to lose to qualifier smth like 7-6 7-6 6-3.
Isner to beat Nadal 7-6 7-6 3-6 7-6 :worship:
do you agree?

01-18-2010, 12:52 PM
So.... that sucked! I don't get it, he played so well last week. Ugh.

Playing doubles with James, they are seeded 16th.

01-18-2010, 02:14 PM
WTF Mardy? You are upsetting me...was he injured or what? anybody seen the match? f*ck!

01-18-2010, 02:19 PM
wow :o

01-18-2010, 03:10 PM
I saw the first set, and it was just bad playing. I understand it's hard to play with rain delays and stuff, but it was just sloppy, bad tennis. I stopped watching after the 2nd set rain delay and went to bed.

01-19-2010, 09:32 PM

02-10-2010, 12:11 AM
So I just went to check on Mardy's match vs. Russell, and imagine my surprise when I see someone from Korea playing Russell instead. Mardy and Sam won their doubles match last night. Anyone know what's going on?

02-10-2010, 12:13 AM
:o no idea. obviously it was very last minute, wonder if it's something that might've happened when he was warming up a couple hours before the match or something

02-10-2010, 02:27 PM
I got a google alert saying left knee injury, but he's gonna stay in doubles....

02-10-2010, 03:07 PM
how strange... maybe he's becoming a doubles specialist on us :sobbing:

02-10-2010, 05:04 PM
cronin tweeted:

can't imagine why he's still playing doubles.

02-10-2010, 06:26 PM
Yeah, I don't get it.

02-14-2010, 09:49 PM
Well, they won the title  and Mardy's both draws for Memphis next week...

02-14-2010, 10:02 PM
Yay! :) I see he's playing with Knowles next week, glad he's healthy again!

02-18-2010, 12:58 AM
I don't even want to post the score of his horrific loss today....

02-18-2010, 07:40 PM
:help: :tape:
It is probably the worst loss my fave suffered in a long time. :o
They won doubles though.

02-18-2010, 08:23 PM
His knee's obviously a problem I just don't understand why he's still playing.

02-24-2010, 12:04 AM
Mardy won a match  by retirement

25 aces, serving 65%. That's pretty high for him.

And him and Mark aren't entered in doubles...

02-24-2010, 01:26 AM
I don't understand why he's continuing to play on his knee :tape:

02-24-2010, 05:19 AM
Good serving and at least he won.
Next match will be tough especially if Mardy is still injured: vs Zverev.

02-25-2010, 02:35 PM
The title of this article made me lol but it's actually good to know how much work he put in over the off season. He just needs to stop being hurt!

02-25-2010, 07:10 PM
Mardy won 6-2 6-4 despite being broken twice in 2nd set! :D

02-25-2010, 07:15 PM
Well that sounds like a better win than his first round. Does he have to play again tonight since it got rained out last night?

02-25-2010, 07:41 PM
Well that sounds like a better win than his first round. Does he have to play again tonight since it got rained out last night?
Luckily no QF in today's OP. :p
Chardy next for Mardy.
The semifinal Mardy vs James would be cool.

02-27-2010, 05:35 AM
Mardy defeated Chardy 6-4 6-3, was never in danger of losing a set!
Ivo defeated James, so 4 players left in the draw are Gulbis, Nieminen, Karlovic and Mardy Fish. :D

03-01-2010, 09:39 AM
Mardy lost to Ivo as expected (he has got awful 1-5 H2H vs Karlovic).
Unfortunately his ranking is now as bad as never: down to No.108.
Almost nothing to defend though.
Mardy needs to perform well both in IW and Miami.
I hope he will do it and get back where he belongs.

03-01-2010, 02:56 PM
wow, out of the top 100 :o

I saw his match against Ivo and he wasn't horrible, but he didn't play well either. I wonder if he's still struggling with his knee. Losing serve 3 times to Karlovic on HC is not a good sign for him at all though.

03-10-2010, 10:10 AM
Mardy is in IW and the draw is not good at all, but I hope Mardy can play like he did at IW 2008!
[25] Kohlschreiber (GER) vs BYE
C. Rochus (BEL) vs Petzschner (GER)
Berrer (GER) vs Fish (USA)
BYE vs [2] Djokovic (SRB)

03-12-2010, 06:42 AM
Mardy won 1-6 6-1 6-3. Somewhat strange scoreline, but great he won it in the end. :)
Now fingers crossed that Mardy plays well vs Djokovic.
Fishy also plays doubles with Mario Ancic!

03-14-2010, 04:54 PM
At least Mardy bageled Djokovic! :D

03-15-2010, 02:22 PM
Yeah, but then he totally disappeared in the third after making an easy mistake :o

03-22-2010, 06:07 PM
In Miami Mardy has got another awful draw. :o
R1 vs Leo Mayer
R2 vs Andy Murray

03-22-2010, 06:20 PM
Well, being ranked outside the top 100 will do that. He's going to be lucky to make it directly into Wimbledon at this point, oh man.

03-22-2010, 06:53 PM
Well, being ranked outside the top 100 will do that. He's going to be lucky to make it directly into Wimbledon at this point, oh man.
Getting Djokovic and Murray in R2 at his probably most favourite masters of the year two weeks in a row is :help: :tape:
He could get any top 32 player. :o

03-26-2010, 06:14 AM
He defeated Mayer 7-6 6-4, but beating Andy will be very tough task. He needs to play like Soderling did last week. :)

03-27-2010, 08:28 PM
Yay! Mardy true champion! :worship:

03-27-2010, 10:19 PM
I am quite shocked! Did you get to see the match DartMarcus?

03-27-2010, 11:16 PM
Well that came straight outta NOWHERE!! amazing!!!

03-28-2010, 06:30 AM
I am quite shocked! Did you get to see the match DartMarcus?
I have seen from *2-1 in 2nd set. Everything was working well apart from Mardy's forehand. Serve was not really consistent, but everytime he was in danger of being broken, there was some 1st serve bomb from Mardy.
Murray was just pushing the ball but Mardy attacked very well. The match point was really incredible volley from Mardy. :worship:
I think Mardy can go very deep in this tournament if he stops bashing his forehand into the net. :help:
It would be also great if he made his 1st serve percent higher, but as we know it is almost impossible for him. :haha:
P.S. I actually expected him to choke. :tape:

03-28-2010, 04:07 PM
Thanks for the recap! I'm glad that Mardy played well! Here's hopin! awesome article!

03-30-2010, 05:06 AM
7-5 6-3 :rocker:
Youzhny next. 4 matches to go. :D

03-30-2010, 01:54 PM
Yay :)

03-30-2010, 11:08 PM
Soooo.... :(
I wasn't really expecting him to win, but definitely not excited to see a retirement. Anyone know what the issue was?

03-31-2010, 02:14 AM
Seems like he fell and in a bout of unfortunate bad luck he hit his sciatic and it wouldn't loosen up

hopefully he can get it cleared up fast :(

04-05-2010, 01:11 AM
well, he is in the Houston draw so hopefully he is ok!

04-06-2010, 07:03 PM
and although they won doubles yesterday he withdrew :(

04-06-2010, 07:07 PM
I watched the livescore of the doubles match and they really struggled!

05-06-2010, 10:27 PM
Any info on how Mardy is recovering from his injury?

Filo V.
05-08-2010, 03:30 AM
Well, we have our answer. Mardy is back, playing the qualifying of Madrid. Injury seems to be recovered. Here is his draw:

(WC) GOMEZ-HERRERA, Carlos ESP v (8) FISH, Mardy USA

He has a really good draw, Dolgopolov played injured this week in Munich and the other players should be no match for him.

Hope Mardy takes advantage of this opportunity, good luck!

05-08-2010, 04:05 AM
I think he will have a hard time beating Dolgopolov on clay, except that Madrid has some altitude. Anyway, good to see him back and attempting to qualify for the master, but I wonder if playing some challengers in the US an getting match tough for the grass season would've been better....

I would agree with you 100/100 times but in this case, Dolgo is supposedly injured and as you say, this clay surface and altitude suits his game quite well. I think he can qualify, but probably playing at Sarasota would have been a better choice. I don't think he wants to play challengers, probably sees that as a last resort, but the opportunity for match practice and more points for winning the event would have been nice, and obviously as much match toughness and practice for grass is needed. Hopefully this decision doesn't backfire on him.

05-08-2010, 08:14 AM
So great to see Mardy back! :bounce:
The draw is nice, but still always hard to play 1st clay matches this year!

Filo V.
05-08-2010, 01:00 PM
Mardy won 6-2 6-2, lost only 10 service points and broke serve 4 times in the match and won more than half of return points. He plays Dolgopolov Jr. in the final round of qualifying tomorrow.

05-09-2010, 06:23 AM
Mardy is also playing doubles with Mark Knowles!
R1 vs Gimeno Traver/Navarro!

Filo V.
05-09-2010, 06:03 PM
Mardy failed to qualify in the singles event, losing a 3+ hour match to Dolgopolov, 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-7 (5). Mardy was down a break in the third and came back and was down match point in the third and fought to take it to a tiebreak, but it wasn't enough. But that he took a good clay court player to the distance is a good sign for Mardy for the French, and more importantly about his conditioning for the grass and summer hard court season. Hopefully he's on the right track and takes positives out of the loss.

Good luck to Mardy and Mark in the doubles!

Filo V.
05-10-2010, 03:33 AM
Mardy and Mark are the last match on the second stadium court tomorrow playing Gimeno-Traver/Navarro. Hopefully they put on a good performance and pick up the victory!

Filo V.
05-11-2010, 01:34 AM
Mardy and Mark won easily, 6-3 6-1 over Gimeno/Navarro, and play the Polish pair Fyrstenberg/Matkowski on Wednesday.

05-11-2010, 09:01 PM
Mardy got in the singles draw as a lucky loser! He's playing Russell, who also got in as a lucky loser!

05-12-2010, 09:02 AM
Finally some luck for Mardy! :)
He won in straights!
Melzer next, who is tough but also beatable!

05-12-2010, 05:28 PM
He lost in 3 but is out playing doubles. so hopefully this at least means he is healthy!

05-22-2010, 04:24 AM
Mardy to face Berrer in RG R1! :bounce:

05-25-2010, 03:56 AM
Mardy had a great 5 set win today, he was down 1-2 sets and won in five!

05-25-2010, 09:04 AM
Fantastic win!
It is always strange when Mardy wins a match on clay, even more strange to win a match at RG in 5 sets
Ljubicic will be almost impossible to beat but still good luck!
Also playing doubles with Mark Knowles!

05-25-2010, 02:27 PM
Great win for him! I'm quite impressed!! Didn't get to see any of it though :(

09-18-2010, 02:14 AM
Beat Falla in 5 sets today in Davis Cup :woohoo:

09-19-2010, 07:18 PM
Great job Mardy for winning all 3 DC matches including 2 singles 5-setters! :worship:

09-20-2010, 01:21 AM
amazing effort :worship:

09-20-2010, 08:04 AM
I don't think I can overstate how impressed I am with Mardy's effort at the DC. What a total legend. 11 hours of tennis, in 9000ft altitude, on his least favourite surface, with a hostile crowd... just an immense effort. Mardy - you are a god :worship::worship::worship:

09-30-2010, 01:58 PM
Next up Beijing! Looks like Mardy will play singles and doubles with Mark. Come on Mardy!! :D

09-30-2010, 10:31 PM
Hi Mardy's fans :wavey:
I found some photos of him by chance:

He's going to play with Tommy tomorrow in Viet Nam:

10-01-2010, 07:53 AM
Thanks for the pics and the news!! The people in Vietnam seem very excited to see Mardy! He even got to sign a baby. That's when you know you've made it! :worship:

10-04-2010, 01:31 PM
Sure they are i hearded they said MARDY FISH although my friend kept said VAMOS JUAN.. He did good here .. Thanks alot Fish !

10-04-2010, 01:56 PM
Nice win Fish

10-04-2010, 02:15 PM
Great start over Janko. Shame he has Nole next. It would be so great if he could finally turn him over.

Against Janko again in the doubles too! Come on Mardy and Mark!

10-07-2010, 02:38 AM
Mardy had to withdraw from R2 because of ankle injury. Unlucky!
Hope it's nothing serious.

10-07-2010, 09:42 AM
Really disappointed for Mardy - hope he's okay. Shame about the doubles too. Hopefully he will be back in shape for Shanghai.

11-15-2010, 09:19 AM
career high ranking of 16!

11-29-2010, 04:51 AM
Mardy had an amazing season this year. Unfortunately he got injured in Beijing so he had to skip all the rest of the year.
But even having skipped almost 2 months on tour, Mardy finished the year No.16 in rankings.
I would try to remember my favorite Mardy's matches this year, starting from its beginning.
15. Sydney SF: lost to Baghdatis 4-6 7-6(7) 6-7(5): great match of 2 my faves, i started expecting big things from Mardy from this point
14. Miami R2: def. Murray 6-4 6-4 - very smart tennis to upset world No.3
13. RG R2: lost to Ljubicic 2-6 7-6(8) 6-4 2-6 8-10 - showed great fight at his least favorite surface
12. Queens R3: def. Murray 6-4 1-6 7-6(2) - fantastic tie break, clutch play, 2nd win over Murray
11. Queens QF: def. Llodra 6-4 6-4 - fantastic serving and volleying
10. Newport F: def. Rochus 5-7 6-3 6-4 - mentally important win, 1st title of the year
9. Atlanta SF: def. Roddick: 7-6(5) 6-3 - superb 1st serve, historic win over best friend on tour and top american player of the decade
8. Atlanta F: def. Isner 4-6 6-4 7-6(4) - 2nd title of the year, win over legend and mental giant
7. Cinci R1: def. Simon 7-6(4) 7-5 - nice play, start of a great run
6. Cinci R2: def. Verdasco 7-6(1) 7-6(4) - win over No.8 in the world
5. Cinci R3: def. Gasquet 7-5 6-2 - 18 aces, no bp faced against the biggest talent on tour
4. Cinci QF: def. Murray 6-7(7) 6-1 7-6(5) - great comeback, saved all bp, makes it 3-0 vs Murray in 2010
3. Cinci SF: def. Roddick 4-6 7-6(3) 6-1 - another comeback, also out-aced Andy
2. Cinci F: lost to Federer 7-6(5) 6-7(1) 4-6 - very close to his biggest win of the career over the GOAT
1. USO R3: def. Clement 4-6 6-3 6-4 1-6 6-3 - not the best play, but played with all his heart to break into USO R16
0. Davis Cup hero : def. Falla 4-6 6-1 6-4 3-6 6-4
def. Giraldo 3-6 6-3 7-5 4-6 8-6
paired Isner def. Farah/Salamanca 6-4 6-4 6-7(5) 6-3
Simply epic way to help USA to beat Columbia, two 5-set wins!
Hope next season will be another breakthrough!
Go Fish! :bounce: :bounce: :rocker: :worship: :worship:  :yeah:
