I don't think he acted childish. He showed some emotions. That's ok for me.

The first 2 sets have been very tight. When he lost the tiebreak in second set, he lost all his confidence. This was kinda shocking to see. Monaco was a more tough opponent than everyone expected, even the bookies.

I guess his dad didn't cover his face before Ernests was broken twice in last set.

I feel really sorry for Ernests.

Estelle, I just want to know. Is English your first language?

btw. Monaco defeated Llodra when he was 2 sets down and had to play tiebreak in 3rd set. I hope this shows everyone what for tough player he can be.

Yes, english is my first language. As you may have noted, there are many grammatical errors/spellings and what not. I literally had to type it in five minutes - mainly cos i wanted to tell you all and the net cafe was only open till like 12am :D

His Dad was sleeping by the time i left (end of second set) Did you see ernests? Were you at AO? He acted childish but reading my report i guess i was a little harsh - it's not good to show much emotion it makes the other player feel confident. Oh, and i am uploading my photos now may take a while though :D

I watched the match with Eurosport Player and I think I saw enough. Ernests is not a roboter, unlike other players. He'll never be. But he didn't act as bad as Safin did in the past. Not even close to this. Monaco screamed sometimes too. But you are right, he should try to hide negative emotions better.

Maybe his dad was suffering from jetlag. Otherwise it would be bad.

Thank you for your report. That you had to write it so fast explains your errors.

I said "Excuse may i get through" I looked up to realise it was AINARS!! OMGGGGGG!! He just moved he legs in slightly looked at my I LOVE ERNESTS GULBIS tee and smiled :D

:yeah: Awe! That's a cute moment you had with Papa.

The guys he was hitting with (the unknown player) and then some brazillian/spanish player hitting with his hitting partner. The hitting partner hit a ball to the spanish/brazillian player and Ernests was talking to Hernan..It was just about to hit ernests and the hitting partner was like BALL BALL BALL! The player just got it and then Ernests turned back and was like "What??!" And then they were laughing for like 2 minutes :D
 He isn't very observant to what is going on around him, but it's good he was focused on talking to Hernan!

By the end of the second set Ainars had given up as well - i think he thought he was acting pretty childish and had his cap over his face and leaning back - i am pretty sure he was sleeping LOL!

:haha: I can picture this in my mind and it really made me laugh!

Thanks for the update Estelle! Next time you should at least ask him for his autograph if you get the chance!

He has a lack of match practice, that's the main reason why he lost against Monaco. I wonder if he or his coach are aware of this. It's just ignorant.

I said the same thing the other day! (Not here though!)
But meh, just compare his body to last year. (Not that I had any problems with it before :P)
He's all muscly and as he said, he's reduced the body fat to minimum and has put muscles.
Aaaand he looks somewhat bigger haha :)
It's a start of a something I think ;)

Well that loss was disappointing. Again, I am going easy on Ernests. I hate commenting on the match when I wasn't able to watch it but here is what I have to say..

All this talk about wondering why we are still here type of stuff after he looses a match bugs me a bit. (just my opinion here) After every loss we all are very disappointed BUT we are all here because at some point we saw something in Ernests. We come on this site and and go cheer him on at matches to show HIM and the world of tennis that he is one of the players we will care about and support. After Ernests' shit-tastic year last year I think we need to support him more. Someone needs to support and believe in him. He is struggling with that in himself.

I'm not going to lie. At times Ernests drives me bat shit crazy! I hated when he didn't have a coach, he had the oppertunity to go to the Adidas camp and work with great people like Darren Cahil..did he? Nope! I hate that he doesn't seem to work as hard as some of the other players. At the end of the season last year he was so excited about the different vacations he was taking instead of trying to get in shape and ready for the new season. BUT I picked to be a Gulbistard and I am going to sit here, dig my nails into the Ernests bandwagon and ride it until the end!

 My odd rant over!

After last year I stopped worrying as much about all the losses. I didn't get used to them, however. It is quite a misfortune to be starting the season like that, but I still believe in the lad. I, too, wish he played doubles or something... Something that would motivate him in our eyes, and motivate his fans to stick around. :drive:

Hey everyone! Ernie won!! It was so cool seeing him play. Since he was on the smaller court everyone was very close. I was front row - literally a few feet away from him when he was on my end of the court. I don't know if there was a livestream but he played OK. Not the best I have seen but good enough to get it done. He was funny about some of the line calls. One of his serves was clearly an ace and the line judge called it out. He said sarcastically "what a shocking call". Such a cute accent! Anyway, I saw him briefly after the match too and said "nice job Ernests". He replied "thank you" and smiled. So cute! The whole crowd (almost) was behind Kendrick though and it made me :( . The lighting was so bad so my pictures are horrible but I will post some anyway. Hopefully I can go to his next round too and get some more. Davai!

@Gumy and friend.. They were just talking about how he was playing. Like sometimes Gumy would say "I don't want him to get in a rally like that" or "this is something we are working on". The other guy was really clapping a lot and saying Brava Ernests and Davai. I would love to see a pic of his dad to see if it was him. Also, Ernests looked up at them a lot especially if he made a mistake and they would say "it's OK, next point" or "let's go".. Ernie gave some fist pumps too. I am SO happy that he won.. It would be amazing if he got to the finals here.. Also, something funny. Once when Radek was serving on the side where we were sitting he hit his serve into the net. I guess the "friend" with Gumy got excited and he clapped my mistake. Well, Radek looked up at all of us just furiously. He then continued to stare in our direction for a few seconds and kept giving us dirty looks for the rest of the game.. OK, here are the pics - again so sorry for the poor quality. I can't seem to get my camera adjusted for the crappy lighting on this small court. He will be on the main one for the next match so hopefully I can do better. :)

If you can set your White Balance to 'Automatic', 'Incandescent' or 'Flourescent' it might help :) it looks like it might be set to 'Cloudy' that's why the camera's compensating with too much yellow.

Well, Radek looked up at all of us just furiously. He then continued to stare in our direction for a few seconds and kept giving us dirty looks for the rest of the game...This fact reminds me a bit of a little "accident" happened in Rome, last year. Ainars yelled "come on" when Ernests' opponent sent the ball into the net, and the opponent (Almagro) reacted very bad against Ainars. Sort of embarassing, but I defo understand Ernests' father for behaving like that. Somehow you can't control your mouth/hands if you are cheering someone you really care about. Even if what you do is not very fair.

Latvian 21 year old Ernests Gulbis advanced to his second ATP World Tour semi-final with a come-from-behind win over No. 5 seed Tomas Berdych, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3).

Gulbis, No. 99 on the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings, was treated for a left knee injury when trailing 4-1 in the final set before coming back and winning after two hours, 36 minutes.

"It's a problem (patella tendonitis) which I've been dealing with for more than one-and-a-half years," said Gulbis, whose only previous semi-final came at St Petersburg in October 2006. "The physio come out on to court and he knew exactly what to do with my knee, so he helped me a lot.

"At 4-1, I was pretty sure I was going to lose so I went for my shots; I played more relaxed. I broke him once, and now he's under pressure, not me anymore."

Gulbis plays the winner of the all-American quarter-final on Friday night between top seed and defending champion Andy Roddick and No. 8 seed Sam Querrey.

He has a chance but sam is playing really well, and erno does have some problem with his knee. there is also highlights (extremely bad on utube) But the last set was so good :) So dramatic and twisted. I am glad to hear the crowd was going for him!!!

all he said about his knee was that he is taking better care of it. It was a short interview. He just said that it meant a lot to him to be in a semi-final. The last time he was in a semi was 3 years ago and he hopes it wont take another 3 years to get there again. He said he has been practicing good since late last year when he started working with Gumy. Then they asked him if he was happy with his game right now and he said he was. He was very happy with his game, things could be better but hes happy!

Apart from the knee,I noticed him a few times seeming annoyed with the tension of his rackets, and I also wondered whether the match vs Berdych took a lot of energy out of him,he didn't seem comfortable at all indeed,or at ease with himself,or the match:awww:

I'm still proud of his week, and its gonna do his ranking a power of good.

http://www.tennistalk.com/en/blog/Ricky%20Dimon/20080228/Why_I_am_Driving_the_Ernests_Gulbis_Bandwagon

Oh yes, Ricky was driving the Ernests bandwagon on MTF too, not so much here in Ernest's forum as in GM. If I remember correctly he was at the US Open when Ernie played his famous match against Robredo, he happened to see this match and instantly became an Erno fan for life. The rest is history as we say

So the first match is against Harrison. Ernests should be a solid favourite but I don't have a very good feeling about this  It would be just like Ernests to follow up his excellent Memphis run with a loss to a 17 year old kid. Not that Harrison is bad, he went through qualifying so his level of play must be pretty decent. And the crowd will be mostly against Ernests. If the knee continues to trouble him I see a loss coming.

TravelingFanGirl
02-23-2010, 06:28 AM
I do agree with Evita. An easy win would be nice.Looking at ranking and experience Ernests clearly has the upper hand BUT Ernests tends to pull his foot off the gas going into a match with a much lower ranked player. The knee is also a issue. Hopefully it wont cause too much of a problem. I've never seen Harrison play and I'm not really expecting too much from the kid but you can never underestimate anything in this game. If Ernests can keep his head on, and his knee is okay I think he should be fine. *crosses fingers*

Dobele is a nice town, it's about 1.5 hours South West from Riga, you have to go through Jelgava (another town) to get there, you can check it out on Google Earth (what a great program :worship:). It's in the part of Latvia, called Zemgale, where the soil is the best so people grow a lot of stuff there, in that region I mean, not in the town itself  Check out this link (http://www.zemgaletourism.lv/dobele_en) for more information.

Dear friends maybe. Yes, maybe his girlfriend could also get away with calling him that way  But his male friends probably call him 'Ērnijs'. I've never seen anyone on the (Latvian) internet refer to him that way, nor to any other Latvian sportsmen. It's just... like I said, these names are for family or very close friends, not for general use. Except if he was short, meaning small, then we could probably use it on him

I secretly call him Ernestiņš since I found how to do diminutive names in Latvian. :) I think it sounds nice and ironical since he's more than 20 centimeters taller than me...but of course I know it is not the right way to call him (he'd punch me, probably, if I did )

Oh O,

Don't think its gonna be an easy win for our ernie; looks like he was surprised he made it in. His Knees were bad today and he also feels bad for breaking the head raquets. Hahaha

From the Tournament site:
The 28-year-old Nieminen will play 21-year-old Ernests Gulbis in Saturday’s first singles semifinal after the Latvian saved a set point and nailed 11 aces to defeat Leonardo Mayer 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Gulbis, who also reached the semifinals in Memphis last week, is at this stage of an ATP World Tour event for just the third time in his career. He has yet to reach a singles final.

“I have to serve well, similar to today,” said Gulbis. “I didn’t feel really well with my legs today, my knee especially. I was struggling with that. Hopefully, tomorrow I will feel better and be moving well. Serve well and stay aggressive: that’s it. That’s all I can do.”

Gulbis won 83 percent of the points on his first serve and 63 percent of the points on Mayer’s second – stats that would make most players very happy. Still, the Latvian smacked his Head racquet around repeatedly on Stadium Court. Despite his outbursts, Gulbis has been trying to control his temper , or so he says.

“I was in a factory of Head in December and I saw that they were making every racquet by hand,” said Gulbis, who estimates that he breaks 50-60 racquets per year. “They are really putting a lot of work into them. When I was there, I felt so bad. I didn’t break a racquet for like one month. I’m better now. They are putting so much effort to make the racquets and an idiot like me goes and breaks them.”

And from 10sballs.com they really seem to like ernests over there cos they keep putting stuff about him, except i think it is brown curls not GIRLS!!! hahaha

Don’t let the halo of brown girls and benevolent smile fool you: Ernests Gulbis was once a ruthless executioner.

His victims were his Head rackets and Gulbis admits his past eruptions in volatile racket rage has seen him decapitate some of those Heads in a racket smashing fury.

In the early stages of today’s Delray Beach quarterfinal, Gulbis bounced his racket to the court in disgust three times in one game. He regained his grip on the racket and rallied from a set point down to defeat Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer, 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach his second straight semifinal at the International Tennis Championships.

“I didn’t think I played so well today, but my coach told me the opposite,” Gulbis said. “He showed me the stats and I made a lot of points on the second serve return, which I think was the key today. I got a little bit lucky the first set. I got a little bit nuts throwing the racket around but maybe it helped a little and loosened me up.”

Racket smashing was once a way of life for Gulbis, who concedes his racket carnage has sometimes seen him wreck more rackets than he has recorded wins during the course of the season.

Working with coach Hernan Gumy, who formerly coached another notorious racket smasher, Marat Safin, Gulbis has tried to keep his head together — and frames intact. But he estimates he breaks 50 to 60 rackets a year.

“I think that it doesn’t help a lot, honestly,” Gulbis said. “Today I was just frustrated and I couldn’t keep it in me I cannot keep all the suspense and tension inside me and sometimes I’m calm and sometimes I am more wild. I’m trying to find the balance. I’m still breaking a lot of rackets, 50 or 60 rackets a year.”

A trip to Head headquarters in Austria in December has slightly slowed Gulbis’ deconstructionist urges — for a month anyway. Gulbis said seeing the care racket technicians put into building his frames by hand, made him feel like “an idiot” for breaking them.

“I was in a factory of Head in December and they are making almost every racket by hand and really putting a lot of work into it,” Gulbis said. “So I feel really bad. I didn’t break a racket for one month because they are really putting a lot of work into making the racket and then an idiot like me goes and he breaks them.”

Gulbis joked he is intent on breaking Safin’s racket-smashing record, but still has a way to go to match the former World No. 1.

The struggle to play their best tennis can sometimes bring out the worst in tennis players — and severely shorten a racket’s lifespan in the process.

Sudden death was once a way of life for Marat Safin. Tennis’ towering terminator was the reason tennis balls and his own rackets were classified at the top of tennis’ endangered species list. This was a six-foot-four powerhouse who played with the punishing power of a player intent on deconstructing the ball with each vicious swing — and that’s when he wasn’t smashing racquets faster than the Incredible Hulk shreds shirts.

Safin was to racket smashing what Evel Knevel was to motorcycle crashing — a spectacle in a class by himself.

Fittingly, it was a showdown with Safin that prompted Roger Federer to re-examine his own behavior on court.

Federer has been firmly entrenched at the top of tennis for years, but it wasn’t too long ago that the 16-time Grand Slam champion found himself throwing it all away — until a shared smash-down with temperamental titan Safin completely changed the Swiss stylist’s mind set.

“I was horrible in those days I used to throw my racket,” Federer once said. “For instance, I’d miss one backhand, I’d say ‘OK.’ I’d miss my second, and I was like, ‘OK, one more, the racket’s gotta go.’ So I missed the third and the racket went.”

Asked to identify the moment that altered his outlook on racket destruction, Federer replied: “Well I remember this moment when I was playing Safin in Rome one time, and they were showing highlights after the match and sort of trying to say who was better in throwing rackets. And then I really started to realize this is not why I’m playing tennis, to be in a competition of who’s throwing the racket more nicely (chuckles). There’s nothing nice about that.”

Ernests Gulbis reached his first career ATP final but he had to wait more than three hours to wrap up the last game. The Latvian was leading 6-4, 5-4 and serving for the match against Jarkko Nieminen in today's semifinal when the rains came hard and fast in Delray Beach. After a 3 hour and 25 minute delay, he finished off Nieminen (6-4, 6-4) by pounding a couple of overhead winners in the deciding game. "It feels really great," said the 21-year-old, who has not dropped a set all week.

Gulbis broke Nieminen in the third game of the first set and held throughout to capture the set with one break. The 28-year-old Finn broke Gulbis to even the second set at 3-3, but then just two games later, Gulbis broke back. Then the youngster broke Niemenen a second time in the second set at 4-all. The rains came a few minutes later.

Gulbis started working with new coach, Argentine Hernan Gumy, at the end of last year and has responded with an 9-4 record in 2010, and a semi-final appearance in Memphis last week to go along with his first final. Touted as a remarkable shot-maker, Gumy has helped Gulbis become both more disciplined and passionate on the court. Currently sporting a No. 72 ranking after reaching a career-high of No. 38 in 2008 and a quarterfinal berth at the French Open, Gulbis could be on the way to fulfilling predictions that he will break into the top echelon of the game.

"I feel like I'm more mentally strong than I was in the past," said Gulbis. "I feel different on court. I'm more consistent. I'm playing smarter. Tonight I warmed up well. I was sweating a little bit when I went on court. I kept aggressive and that worked out the whole match."

Nieminen, the highest-ranked Finn of all time, reached a career-high No. 13 in 2006. He came into Delray Beach with a No. 106 after undergoing wrist surgery and contracting swine flu last year. The Finn has won one ATP tournament in his 10-year career, but has reached nine finals.

I swear 10sballs.com have fallen in love with him; i love the parrt about his brown hair and how he generally looks all the time:
Ernests Gulbis was in no mood to play the waiting game.

The talented 21-year-old played 66 ATP Tour tournaments without reaching a title match and now was four points from powering into his first career ATP Tour level final when showers stalled his ascent.

Serving for a spot in his first career final in Delray Beach today, Gulbis glanced toward the sky at the curtain of clouds that hung heavily in the air and watched as the rain ruptured through the clouds and flooded onto the court, temporarily washing away his hopes for a title shot.

Heavy showers suspended play at 3:24 p.m. with Gulbis holding a 6-4, 5-4 lead over Jarkko Nieminen in the International Tennis Championships first semifinal. Both men packed up their bags and headed for the cover of the player lounge where they endured a three hour, four minute rain delay.

When play resumed, Gulbis netted a forehand on the first point, then unloaded on a biting first serve and two crushing overhead winners to reach match point.

Extending his left arm up into the murky sky, Gulbis pounded down a 125 mph ace out wide to wrap up a 6-4, 6-4 victory that vaulted him into his first Tour-level final.

It is Gulbis’ first final at any level since he won the Mons, Belgium Challenger in October of 2007 — an event so far removed from his current state of mind he could not even recall his last final. He won’t forget reaching this final.

“It feels great,” said Gulbis, who conducted his post-match press conference twisting a piece of white adhesive tape he peeled off his index finger while contemplating the magnitude of the moment. “I made a lot of (ranking) points. I have no points to defend for a long time — ’till the end of the year. Any points I make from here I can just grow in the rankings. Starting from now I can just go up. I cannot fall out of 100 anymore — I have nothing to defend.”

A year ago, Gulbis found himself fighting to fend off the label of a spoiled, underachieving prodigy who would rather hang out with his friends than spend time on the practice court.

Touted as one of tennis’ top talents when he reached the 2006 St. Petersburg semifinals in his ATP debut, Gulbis solidified his status as a player with great promise powering to the 2008 Roland Garros quarterfinals. Since that career-best major result, Gulbis has failed to surpass the second round in seven straight majors and spent much of last season railing at himself or bouncing his racket in disgust with good reason: Gulbis won back-to-back matches only twice last season.

Working with coach Hernan Gumy for the past four months (the pair spent some time in the offseason training in Miami) has helped Gulbis stabilize his emotions on court and smarten his shot selection.

While he readily admits “I hate to practice”, he’s no longer the baseline gun slinger prone to imploding when his groundstrokes go askew. Gumy, a former Argentine pro, has a history of helping impetuous players. He worked with Marat Safin in the later stages of the two-time Grand Slam champions career and has encouraged Gulbis to play sound, aggressive tennis.

“I played well (at Challengers); it was just the transition from Challengers to the ATP level that was not as well,” Gulbis said. “No one knew me or knew what to expect (and) on that wave I went up. I played the quarters of Paris and some good matches against great players. Then players started to figure me out. They start to know me as a player and they played on my weak spots. Last year was like that, but now I am a more complete player. If I don’t play my game right I lost to people I should beat and I lost to them easy. Honestly, I basically think I won or I lost matches by myself. The other guy just put the ball in and that’s it — that’s all he had to do.”

It may sound like Gulbis had to jump through hoops to advance to the title match, but in reality he spent the break shooting hoops in the converted gym that serves as the player lounge. The son of a former basketball player, Gulbis is an avid basketball player and said he sank 18 consecutive free throws during the rain delay.

“Usually I do a couple of hundred in row,” Gulbis deadpanned, effectively conning one journalist on that count before conceding, “I’m joking. I did 18 in a row so I was confident for my match.”

There was a time when Gulbis, one of the most physically gifted young players on the pro circuit, watched his confidence ebb and flow like his drop shot. He was so mentally and emotionally fragile on court he may have suffered a mental meltdown enduring such a lengthy delay in years past. Times have changed and now the Latvian, whose bushy head of brown hair makes him resemble a college kid rolling out of bed after a late night on spring break, is adding another important element to his game: poise.

“Maybe not,” Gulbis said when asked if he would have won such a match prior to this season. “Because I think I am mentally stronger than I was before. I feel different on court I am playing a bit smarter, I think, I hope. I warmed up well before the match (resumed) I was already sweating so I was ready for the first point. I just kept aggressive and it worked out. I was thinking mentally I was going to win.”

He is now one win from his first Tour-level title and has a strong shot to capture the championship if he reproduce the level of tennis he’s played this week.

“I think he can (break through as a top 25 player),” Nieminen said. “I thought already (before the semifinal) Gulbis is one of the most talented players. It seems he has found something to beat top 20 players.”

Defending champion Mardy Fish is scheduled to face ATP ace leader Ivo Karlovic in today’s 8:30 p.m. semifinal. A grinning Gulbis made no secret of his preferred opponent for the final.

“Better Fish because he is a normal tennis player,” said Gulbis with a smile. “Karlovic is a great guy and a good tennis player, but he is so tough to play against. I never played against him but I practice against him and practice was so-so. I will just take it as another match. The game plan is simple: keep my serve and I will wait for my chances because both guys are serving well and if I keep my serve I will wait for my chances.”

The 72nd-ranked Gulbis blasted a backhand off the sideline to convert his fourth break point and collect a 2-1 lead in the opening set.

A Gulbis double fault gave Nieminen a break point in the next game, but Gulbis dug in and erased it with a forehand winner. He followed with a backhand winner and a 131 mph service winner out wide to hold for 3-1.

The 109th-ranked Nieminen was bidding to reach his first Tour-level final since he defeated World No. 3 Novak Djokovic to reach the Sydney final in January. Nieminen’s game is predicated on his movement, court craft and ability to change speed on his shots. He used those elements to fight off set points in the opening set and twice battle back from a break down in dispatching third-seeded Benjamin Becker, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(5) in Friday’s quarterfinals, but could not get enough balls back in play to engage Gulbis in longer exchanges today.

“I thought I didn’t do too much wrong the whole match,” Nieminen said. “His serve is so big and solid, it’s tough to get into rallies when he makes his first serve.”

Gulbis surrendered just two points in his next two service games to open a 5-3 lead.

Clouds began to thicken, the sky darkened and the stadium lights were turned on after the ninth game.

Serving for the first set in the 10th game, Gulbis saw Nieminen save two set points, stabbing back stretch returns. Cracking a 121 mph service winner, Gulbis gained a third set point and closed the opening set with an ambitious slice second serve wide that provoked an errant return from Nieminen.

A foot fault call on a first serve forced Nieminen to hit a second serve. He sent a forehand beyond the baseline to face break point. Gulbis, who uses his hip and shoulder turn to great effect on his two-handed backhand, sent an angled backhand return to break for 2-1. Successive forehand winners enabled Gulbis to stretch the lead to 3-1.

Nieminen broke back for 3-all when Gulbis, upset over what he thought was an ace that was ruled out, lost his concentration. Nieminen held to take the lead for the first time since opening game.

The loose-limbed left-hander had the lead, but Gulbis responded with a prodigious display of power that illustrated why he’s regarded as a top talent.

Unleashing a torrent of titanic serves, Gulbis hit a 126 mph ace for a 30-0 lead then crushed a 132 mph ace — his eighth of the match — to hold at 15 for 4-all.

Nieminen floated a forehand deep to hand Gulbis a break point in the ninth game. A heavy inside-out forehand from Gulbis drew another forehand error and Gulbis had the break and a 5-4 lead. That’s when the rain came.

Gulbis weathered the storm and will try to carry the calm state of mind he showed in finishing off today’s match into the final. The man who proudly proclaims he is “not sick with tennis” appears to have found the remedy for the ailments that stalled his progress.

“I know guys who are living on court for seven or eight hours a day and I am not like that,” Gulbis said. “I like playing tennis, but I am not sick with tennis. I enjoy winning. I enjoy playing. I enjoy competing. I do not like practice. I really hate practice. The only thing I am competing for is playing and for the taste of winning.”

What? That isn't being very positive.(If I understand what you are saying correctly.) In my eyes Erno's career is just starting, so to speak. Kind of a new awakening. He will have more chances! If he continues to work hard and go after what he wants he will have a nice carrer a head of him!

Anyway, Ivo will be VERY tough to beat but he has made it this far so all he needs to do now is stay focused, serve well and go for it! *crosses fingers* Either way i'll be proud of him! This is such a good accomplishment in the early part of the season!

But the only thing I'm afraid of is that it will all disappear when he gets disappointed once, and no doubt that will happen. If he's THEN strong enough, he officially saw the light. So true. I totally agree Ellen. Lets cross our fingers!:)

I'm sure they made a bet: E won't cut his hair until he's won a tournament  he must hate having long hair :p

on a different note, I totally hate that I am so busy right now! I don't have the time to look at any pics nor read any article! I'll try to watch the final while correcting papers and preparing my lessons for tomorrow but it's not gonna be easy

Facebook said he's in Vero Beach, which is only an hour and a half's drive away from Delray :p Naughty Karlis.

The hug between Gumy and Papa Gulbis at the end was a very nice moment.

I cried, quite a lot this time, and then I went insane and now I am sitting in glee.

YAY ERNIE :D This is just amazing, after being a fan for so long and putting up with losses, it may not be the biggest tournament in the world but for today, Delray Beach could be a slam to me. :)
