usually the protected rankings are in your initial lists if I'm not wrong :

does it mean that Moya didn't use it to play in Melbourne ? (he should have a PR around 50)

Btw, Santoro said in the French press that he would not go to Melbourne.

And we've not heard about Ancic for a while

he clearly said he would not go in the French media after Bercy.

Not impossible that he changes his mind because he liked the "4 decades record" but he sounded very sure : he'll probably take full benefit of christmas with his daughter.

Maybe just an event at national level? Devilder says he gave up on his protected ranking when he decided to play for his club in the French Interclubs, it doesn't appear in his player's activity either, I was surprised it counts as an event for the PR rule. I find that quite harsh.

I think in the case of Haase Klaas_nalbandian means a tournament in September 2008;) Robin was first injured in July 2008 when he had a ranking of 67, he then came back for one challenger in September after that was sidelined with injury again. So if he hadn't played the tournament in September 2008 his PR could have been higher as his ranking had fallen by September 2008

btw, Vliegen got his PR rather quickly I would say :shrug:There are 26 weeks between Vliegen's last tournament (week of 7/13/09) & Australian Open (week of 1/18/10). Six months has been the minimum inactive period to qualify for a protected ranking for as long as I can remember.

Devilder says he gave up on his protected ranking when he decided to play for his club in the French Interclubs, it doesn't appear in his player's activity either, I was surprised it counts as an event for the PR rule. The rule states that a player can't play "any tennis event" for at least six months to qualify for a protected ranking. The ATP doesn't want players to take a vacation from the ATP to go play club tennis or paid exhibitions.

ITF allowed him actually.

There are two appeals in Belgium and in front of the CAS, but so far the ITF allows him to play now.

but it would be nice to know what's the precise situation as I don't know why SeagullUK said "out Malisse" : was it just a guess or a real information ? and some Belgian media kind of said that as well according to Deborah.

http://www.tennisnews.com/exclusive.php?pID=30075When Jesse Levine had finished up a couple of training hours on court with Sebastien Grosjean this morning, there were still no changes on the other side of the world at the Australian Open. He was still five spots out of the main draw and his mind was made up.

He's not going. Not going to Melbourne next month to play the quallies for this opening Grand Slam of the 2010 season. Not going Down Under in hopes that five guys will pull up lame and hand him a spot in a major.

"That's a long trip. I needed this break and this is a chance for me to stay home a little longer, rest up, get fitter and, hopefully, make this my breakthrough year," he explained.

Besides, the wisdom of Andy Roddick continues to reverberate in both ears: "Can I say something?" Roddick had asked him after they'd finished up a workout a couple weeks ago and were discussing 2010 schedules. "Don't chase the points. Focus on the matches."

And so, when this long break at his home in Boca Raton, Fl., and the daily workouts at the nearby USTA training facility at the Evert Academy are done, Levine is off to chase the matches -- not the points -- beginning with a couple $50,000 Challengers in Hawaii and Dallas and then regular ATP events at San Jose and Memphis before his hometown tournament at Delray Beach, Fl.

[QUOTE=StatRacket;9489228]I'm so glad Moya's in the draw. Hopefully he gets a really kind draw like Jason Kubler first round.[/QUOTE

Yer but that would be a good draw for Kubler too, because Moya isnt in the best form and he is such a legend having over 500 wins that would be a match to remember for Kubler. There isnt that many players that Kubler good knock off in the draw, but his only chance to make the second round would be coming up against someone like Monfils or Tsonga because they are injured and my retire. But i don't want Tsonga to retire it would be good to see a repeat of the 2008 AUS OPEN if Lleyton dosen't make it far or Murray. But the final will be Murray vs Nadal if there not on the same side of the draw but this year we might see one or two first time grand slam winners like Murray, Davydenko, Verdasco and Tsonga.

Hopefully Hewitt can make it to the fourth round atleast, he will come up against 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 seeds in the third round then a top ten player maybe top 5, but this AUS OPEN we might see a new Tomas Berdych he looks good this year. The only good hopefuls that unseeded are Gasquet, Tipsarevic, Isner, Blake, Cuevas, Bellucci, Baghdatis and Seppi and is there anything wrong with Mardy Fish because one of him and Knowles retired from there doubles match against Ball and Huss not being rude or anything but i hope its Mardy Fish because his up against Carsten Ball in the singles and his chances are good any way but Fish would struggle against Ball if he was injured.

Does anyone know if there is any rule or tradition on Aussie Open concerning which part of the draw will start on day 1 - the one of the champion (like at Wimbledon) or the one of the top seed (in our case Nadal or Federer)? Thanks!

Which part of the draw will start first? Just look where Lleyton Hewitt appears in the draw - whichever half of the draw HE'S in determines this I reckon (it's happened time and time again). They seem to work it so that Lleyton always starts on Tuesday, so that if he wins his early rounds he will play on the Saturday of the first weekend (or so-called 'Super Saturday', dehhrrr). I'm not putting money on this, but just wait and see ... it's not about Nadal or Fed here in Oz, it's all about Hewitt!

How can he be a LL, he was 24th seed...

The only higher seed to lose was Ventura. I think they put the three or four highest seeded losers in a hat and draw. This avoids top seeds throwing a match when they know there is already a withdrawal in the main draw.
