Here's what you need to know:

1) No commitments are necessary for the tournaments. Simply post your picks in the thread. You may play more than one event per week.

2) To play this game, you will post a full predicted draw for the tournament, including all winners in all matches of all rounds.

3) You must post your full prediction before the first ball of the first main draw match is struck.

4) If a player withdraws after you have made your prediction, you MAY ONLY alter your pick if the withdrawing player was seeded. However, if the player who withdrew is not a seed, you may not replace.
Unless a seeded player withdraws, you are not allowed to change picks after the first post.
If you are changing picks due to the withdrawal of a seed, you must post your picks in a new post. No editing posts under any circumstances.

5) As far as qualifiers are concerned, you may post just "Q" in you predictions if you wish to make them before the qualifiers are placed, or you may wait until they are placed to predict, but remember that you must post before the first match begins. If two qualifiers play each other, and you are predicting before they are placed, you must predict based on their placement in the draw. For instance, you may say "Qualifier 1 d. Qualifier 2" which would indicate a prediction that the qualifier who is listed first in the draw would win.

6) If a player receives a bye, you do not get points for predicting them into the second round.

7) Scoring goes as follows:
The points you receive will be based on the round points for the tournament. For each player you predict correctly into the second round, you receive the round points for a first round victory, and so on.

8) PLEASE REMEMBER:
-Only state the winner of the match, DO NOT write your picks in the form of "Player A def Player B"
-Also, please do not use smilies in your picks, there is really no need for it.

For more info, please feel free to visit the FITD forum in the games section.

Player Profiles

(1)Jens http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wde.gif

FITD Rank: 1
Bio/2009 in Review:
Jens debuted in FITD at the Australian Open this year and has made the steady progress all the way to #1 in the FITD rankings. Jens performed outstandingly at the four Grand Slams, with a Wimbledon title and a worse finish of 7th place at the Australian Open. Having had the strongest year out of all the players, Jens is definitely the favourite going into the 2009 World Tour Finals despite being a first-time qualifier.
Titles:
2009 – Buenos Aires (250), Wimbledon (GS)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (W) Wimbledon, (3rd) Roland Garros, (5th) US Open, (7th) Australian Open
WTF History: Debut

(2)EnriqueIG8 http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wes.gif

FITD Rank: 2
Bio/2009 in Review:
As a first-time rookie player, EnriqueIG8 won the title in Bangkok in 2008. A rookie no more, EnriqueIG8 has raced up the rankings this season and even held the #1 rank for a couple of weeks following a US Open victory. As the #2 player going into the final tournament of the season, EnriqueIG8 is the only one who has a shot at taking the Year End #1 rank away from the current #1, Jens.
Titles:
2008 – Bangkok (IS)
2009 – Sydney (250), Acapulco (500), Dubai (500), Båstad (250), US Open (GS), Stockholm (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (W) US Open, (8th) Australian Open, (12th) Roland Garros
WTF History: Debut

(3)diego36arg http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/war.gif

FITD Rank: 3
Bio/2009 in Review:
diego36arg had a slow start to the 2009 season which saw a drop out of the Top 20, but currently sits ranked at #3 after a strong 2nd half of the season. diego36arg hopes to improve at the World Tour Finals this year after a disappointing 14th place finish last year.
Titles:
2008 – Auckland (IS), Warsaw (IS)
2009 – Washington (500), Cincinnati (1000)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (4th) US Open, (7th) Roland Garros
WTF History: 2008 – 14th

(4)Adder A216 http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wnl.gif

FITD Rank: 4
Bio/2009 in Review:
Adder A216 started playing FITD at the US Open in 2008 and after a full 2009 season, is now established as one of the game’s top players. Adder A216 started 2009 with a bang having won the year’s first Grand Slam title in Australia and even held the #1 position for 3 weeks in late August and early September. A title here is definitely within reach for Adder A216.
Titles:
2009 – Australian Open (GS)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (W) Australian Open, (8th) US Open
WTF History: Debut

(5)d_s http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wca.gif

FITD Rank: 5
Bio/2009 in Review:
d_s is at #5 in the rankings going into the World Tour Finals. d_s leads this season with the most titles won (6 titles – tied with EnriqueIG8) and hopes to add another one to the collection at the 2009 World Tour Finals.
Titles:
2009 – San Jose (250), Houston (250), Munich (250), Hamburg (500), Bangkok (250), Vienna (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (6th) Wimbledon
WTF History: 2008 – 8th=

(6)John John http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wfr.gif

FITD Rank: 6
Bio/2009 in Review:
After a great start to the 2009 season, John John sat on top of the rankings for 7 weeks in the summer. John John is the winner 5 titles in total and has never dropped out of the Top 10 ever since entering in late January of 2008, which is an incredible feat. A title in London would be an ideal finish to the season for John John.
Titles:
2008 – Miami (MS), New Haven (IS), Bucharest (IS)
2009 – Brisbane (250), Buenos Aires (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (7th=) Wimbledon, (9th) Australian Open, (15th) Roland Garros
WTF History: 2008 – 3rd=

(7)buddyholly http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wca.gif

FITD Rank: 9
Bio/2009 in Review:
buddyholly has now qualified for the World Tour Finals for the 2nd year in a row following a consistent 2009 season which saw 3 titles, including a 1000 tournament in Madrid. After qualifying but missing the World Tour Finals in 2008, buddyholly will look for a possible title here at the 2009 tournament.
Titles:
2008 – Nottingham (IS), Båstad (IS), Newport (IS)
2009 – Casablanca (250), Estoril (250), Madrid (1000)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (5th) Wimbledon, (15th) US Open
WTF History: 2008 – n/a (qualified but did not play)

(8)Ria http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wmt.gif

FITD Rank: 8
Bio/2009 in Review:
Ria currently holds the record for not only the most weeks at #1 in the rankings (44 weeks) but also for the most consecutive weeks at #1 (27 weeks). Despite a slight drop in the rankings this year, Ria has still won 3 titles this season and should definitely not be ruled out in London. Ria is the defending champion of the tournament and certainly knows what it takes to win.
Titles:
2008 – Indian Wells (MS), Barcelona (ISG), Queens/London (IS), Gstaad (IS), Umag (IS), Shanghai (YEC)
2009 – Kitzbühel (250), Halle (250), Basel (500)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (3rd) Australian Open, (16th=) Wimbledon
WTF History: 2008 – Champion

(9)NyGeL http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/war.gif

FITD Rank: 7
Bio/2009 in Review:
NyGeL didn’t have much luck at the Grand Slams this year but did well to secure a spot in the World Tour Finals. NyGeL’s biggest tournament win this year was in Miami at the Sony Ericsson Open and also had 2 other titles at Newport and Stuttgart. In 2008, NyGeL found his way into the Masters Cup as an alternate when players ranked above missed out on the tournament. This year as a qualifier, NyGeL hopes to improve on an 8th place finish in 2008.
Titles:
2008 – Hamburg (MS), Kitzbühel (ISG)
2009 – Miami (1000), Newport (250), Stuttgart (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (22nd=) US Open
WTF History: 2008 – 8th= (as Alt.)

(10)Frank Winkler http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wca.gif

FITD Rank: 10
Bio/2009 in Review:
2009 saw Frank Winkler make a break into the top 10 for the first time. Frank Winkler was the 2009 Wimbledon finalist as well as placing 6th at the US Open and capturing the 2009 Beijing title. Frank Winkler hopes the strong results continue in his debut at the World Tour Finals.
Titles:
2008 – Delray Beach (IS), Los Angeles (IS)
2009 – Beijing (500)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (F) Wimbledon, (6th) US Open
WTF History: Debut

(11)jcreback http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wus.gif

FITD Rank: 13
Bio/2009 in Review:
jcreback’s strong playing started in 2008 with an Olympic gold medal in Beijing. Playing a full season for the first time, jcreback locked a spot in the top 16 with consistent results throughout the year. Perhaps jcreback can with the title here in London to accompany the lone trophy won in Chennai at the beginning of 2009.
Titles:
2008 – Beijing Olympics (OG), Stockholm (IS)
2009 – Chennai (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (5th) Roland Garros, (14th) US Open
WTF History: Debut

(12)Björki http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wse.gif

FITD Rank: 11
Bio/2009 in Review: Björki is definitely one of FITD’s top and most consistent players and it’s unfortunate Björki’s ranking has taken a bit of a dip since the start of the season. Björki’s maiden title was won in Johannesburg this year and a title to finish the season would be an ideal end. Björki is the defending finalist of last year’s tournament.
Titles:
2009 – Johannesburg (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (7th) US Open
WTF History: 2008 – Runner-Up

(13)Snoo Foo http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wao.gif

FITD Rank: 19
Bio/2009 in Review:
Snoo Foo comes into the World Tour Finals as the lowest ranked player sitting at #19. Snoo Foo’s first career title came in Stuttgart this year and a couple weeks later, a second title was won in Gstaad. A steady and consistent season allowed Snoo Foo to qualify for the World Tour Finals for the second year running. Snoo Foo hopes to cap off the year with a good result in this final tournament.
Titles:
2009 – Stuttgart (250), Gstaad (250)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (4th) Australian Open
WTF History: 2008 – 8th=

(14)amalyn http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wde.gif

FITD Rank: 15
Bio/2009 in Review:
amalyn is a former #1 ranked FITD player and in fact has the second most weeks at #1 (19 weeks) behind Ria. amalyn had a bit of trouble finding strong results this season compared to last season, but still managed to finish in the top 16. As one of the game’s top players, amalyn knows what it takes to finish out on top.
Titles:
2008 – Bangkok (IS), Beijing (IS), Metz (IS), St. Petersburg (IS)
2009 – Rotterdam (500)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (14th) Australian Open, (14th=) Wimbledon
WTF History: 2008 – 3rd=

(15)chowdahead25 http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wus.gif

FITD Rank: 14
Bio/2009 in Review:
chowdahead25 is the only player to qualify for the World Tour Finals without a title won. 2009 was the debut season and chowdahead25 should be pleased with how it turned out. chowdahead25’s best result came at the French Open with a 2nd place finish. It’ll be interesting to see how chowdahead25 will perform as a debut qualifier at the 2009 World Tour Finals.
Titles: none
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (F) Roland Garros, (13th) US Open
WTF History: Debut

(16)Bashak http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/misc/wtr.gif

FITD Rank: 12
Bio/2009 in Review:
Bashak is another player who benefitted from a first full season and managed to squeeze in the top 16 by 3 points. Bashak started extremely strong late in 2008 with consecutive titles in Basel and Paris which were the only tournaments Bashak played. Bashak’s strong playing continued in 2009 where the French Open and Tokyo titles were won. Bashak has got the knack of winning big titles and without a doubt has a chance to win the title at the World Tour Finals.
Titles:
2008 – Basel (IS), Paris (MS)
2009 – Roland Garros (GS), Tokyo (500)
Best 2009 Grand Slam Results: (W) Roland Garros,

Sorry, if I let you play, I don't think it would be fair to all the other players that didn't qualify. Try again next though, maybe you'll qualify. ;) and if you want, you can submit a draw. I can calculate your scores but it won't be counted.

As long as d_s doesn't mind the extra work of calculating their total, there is no harm in seeing their scores. I personally don't mind it. they won't receive ranking points. I'm playing DTT WTF even though I'm not qualified because

Hey guys I have a question.
If for example Murray turns out to be the winner of Group A and Federer being second, Davydenko 1st in Group B and Djokovic second while I have;
Group A: 1st Federer 2nd Murray and Group B: 1st Djokovic 2nd Davydenko.... is this rewarded with the full points or with 0 points?

I mean if I have for example Semifinals: Federer def. Davydenko and Murray def. Djokovic while the real Semi's are: Murray def. Davydenko and Federer def. Djokovic?

You know what I mean ? :haha:

d_s
11-23-2009, 10:57 PM
You actually don't get points for getting the correct rankings of the semifinalists. It doesn't really matter since it reflects on your round robin predictions.

and if you picked Federer and Murray into the finals and Federer and Murray really do get in the finals, you'll get the points regardless of who they beat to get into the finals.

d_s thanks for the good job! But one question.. I think we also deserve points for the right winners of the group. I mean if somebody (like me now:p) has Davydenko losing in the semifinals that should deserve more points than have Nadal losing in the semifinals, right?

Well if someone picked Nadal into the semis that would mean they picked him to win at least 1 or 2 matches in the round robin and they wouldn't have gotten any points. Since you picked Davydenko into the semis you got points for Davydenko in the round robin. Whoever people pick into the semis is reflected on their picks from round robin so the points balance out.

edit: ok actually I just thought about it and I know what you're talking about now. I was updating the scores and I realized there would be 8 people tied for 3rd so I came up with a tiebreak rule.
The tiebreak rule I'll be using is: # of correct finalist picks, # of correct semifinalist picks, and # of correct round robin picks. (basically it's # of semifinalist picks, since almost no one picked any correct finalists, and everyone would have had the same number of round robin picks)

Snoo Foo

Yes I know what you mean, but for example many people picked 3 players with 1 win in Group B. So if you have Davydenko on spot two, I think that should get you more points than have Nadal at number 2. Of course this looks like I'm only complaining because I have Davydenko at spot 2, but overall I think that's more fair than have a tie with 6 or 7 players.

but we have ties all the time... why institute a tiebreak rule?

Well it maybe looks like I'm whining just because I picked to survive the group but I think it's more fair to get points when you have a Federer-Davydenko matchup in the SF, rather than have a Federer-Nadal matchup, you know what I mean...

d_s
11-28-2009, 04:13 PM
but we have ties all the time... why institute a tiebreak rule?

I've been thinking about it and I think it makes sense to have a tiebreak rule. In a tournament like WTF where there's bound to be many ties, I think it's only fair to use a tiebreak rule. Especially, what if it wasn't 8 people tied for 3rd but instead it was 8 people tied for 1st place. What would we do then? (I think this discussion should be moved into the managers thread though)

I don't have time to post the scores now but I'll have them up in a couple hours. I can tell you that Bashak is the winner though :D

Bashak
11-28-2009, 07:10 PM
Yay! Nikolay ! :bigclap:
:bounce:
I was :ras: when I saw that I was the only one to give Davydenko a chance to win this in the results list. But hey, 13th time is a charm and he did it.

Thank you d_s, great job managing, and congrats to runners-up. Thanks everyone for playing.

I also agree that picking the right semifinalist could be some sort of a tiebreaker b/c I actually had a tough time picking simply b/c I had to make one guy lose all matches and another win all matches to actually decide who would win the group. I ended up with a repeat of last year's final, which I knew had like a probability of 1% but could not change it around. so I think getting the correct semifinalists is a different step then picking for individual matches. imo RR sucks.

See you next season everybody!
