Well, Richard has a very full fall schedule. He must be thrilled that he can actually play :awww: Here's his tentative schedule:

21/9 Metz
28/9 Kuala Lumpur
5/10 Tokyo
11/10 Shanghai
19/10 Open d'Orleans
25/10 St Petersburg
2/11 Basel
8/11 Bercy

 Yikes! That's a crazy schedule. He's trying to make up for lost time, I guess. Let's just hope he doesn't get injured so he misses Paris again.

FFS Pim Pim on the comeback trail and so is Gasquet. Of course I'll root for Richie, but this will be a nightmare to watch as I like both. :hysteric: Provided Richie wins against Crivoi that is, but that shouldn't be too hard.

I feel exactly the same way :hysteric: I love Pim Pim and he was so good on saving those break points against Lleyton :scared: Richie will have his work cut out for him if he gets there of course.

the FFT had bloody better give him a wild card to Bercy if he doesn't make it by ranking and requests one.

REALLY! He's been cleared and it's completely legal for him to play. (Although they might be afraid he'll withdraw and would have wasted a WC :tape: - naw, that was the old Richie).

Looking forward to seeing him play tonight - perfect time for me, about 10:30 pm. Glad it's not one of those 3-4 am matches. Last night I was working on my laptop and came across the live stream. The only one I could get was pretty bad - it must have been a fixed camera in the stands and in the little I watched the camera angle never shifted and you almost needed binoculars to see the player on the far side but better than just a scoreboard "fur shuuure"
Good luck Richie!

He needs seven more (Nalbandian won't play this year) withdrawals (not unlikely for Bercy), go through qualifying or get a WC for Bercy. If the Bercy-tourney really refuses him a wild-card (which still has to be seen), public opinion - which was not always his greatest ally - will swing hugeley in favour for him.

If he has any issues with France may I suggest we have a very good tax rate for athletes and we pay 70k a year to top athletes

Great hitting at 5-1, 0-30 for two points in a row with forehand. He should try doing that more often. I know it is much easier to do when you are up two breaks of serve though.

I've read Pim Pim's blogs and he says he thinks through a match the day before... visualises the court and where he'll be positioned etc. He's come prepared with a game plan. I still believe Richie will get stronger as the match progresses...

I don't think he's going to recover, honestly he's pretty lucky that the score isn't more severe. Johansson is hitting absolute bombs (that forehand return at Ad in the last game!). Richard is in a fight to survive in every one of his service games, and he hasn't been able to win more than one point on Johansson's serve since the first game.

Dini
10-01-2009, 10:29 AM
Richie you better hold all your service games in the next set. :p

I already had that feeling in Metz, returns were poor. And if he doesn't get a hold on the first serve, he MUST do better on the 2nd. I can't see anything today, maybe it is better. ;)

Richie, seconds serves get absolutely crushed. He either has to risk a lot on it or take off some on first serves.
JJ was better in every aspect of the game in first set.

simplet
10-01-2009, 10:31 AM
I think it's a match-up problem also. Richard will always hit a couple of akward shots here and there in a rally, but every time Pim-pim sees a ball like that he fires a freaking missile.

Puschkin
10-01-2009, 10:31 AM

Dini
10-01-2009, 10:37 AM
Missile

He's a powerhouse, that's for sure. Having said that I didn't expect him to get past Hewitt let alone Richard coming back from the long lay off. He looks like a man on a mission. And Richard just has to focus on his own games for now - anything can happen in a TB. Of course if he gets the chance to break then he just has to take that chance.

simplet

I meant he must do better in JJ's 2nd serves.

He gets the ball back on second serves in his usual fashion (in middle of the court) and then JJ crushes next ball.

Richard needs JJ to start missing or get tired or something.

Even though he's getting mauled out there, I'm pretty impress with Richard's fighting spirit. He is in danger in pretty much all of his service game, and manages to tough it out.

Wow just noticed Johansson wins almost as much points on his second serve as Richard on his first.

edit : ah ah second edit it's probably because Richard is winning 83 % point on his second serve and 63 on his first in the second set!

Sad thing, even down 0-40, I never thought for a second that if Pim Pim would not miss, Richard will not break him. Everything in this match so far on Pim Pim's racquet. Really sad.

Dini

Pusckin with all due respect Pim is not a maniac. Unlike Karlovic he actually has weapons off the ground. A very strong forehand and an effective slice.

Glad Richie saved that BP after DFing. Phew. :o

well, what can you do? If tennis will be in the future, being 2 m tall and hitting the ball like a maniac?

Get stronger off court. Get faster. Get a coach that can actually give you tactics.

Those are the things Richard can do and hasn't done yet lately.

Dini

Soderling does not have a slice and his backhand is ugly compared to the single hander of J.J. :p

He had a chance on the first break point though

He did, but once he went 15 feet behind the baseline to return second serve, I knew this point was gone. You can't do that against Pim Pim, i don't know what he is thinking out there.

Why can Pim-Pim still play that well despite retirement and yet Richie's only been out for a few months but can't gain momentum?

You don't need to have an ounce of a brain to play Pim Pim's game. Richie's game is all about feel and obviously will take a lot longer to get back. But also, it is off court work that I guess paying off.

He mentioned that he was tired after the Hewitt match. I don't think he's the most match fit guy on tour either at the moment, to be honest. :p He can hit at these speeds for 5 sets and still win, so it's not a matter of hitting hard; I just think it's lack of fitness.

I think he's out of ideas now. Yesterday against Hewitt he was slicing the ball quite a lot, hitting controlled forehands and even approached the net a few times. He's not this mindless on average - I just think he's really tired and wants to end the point on the first shot. I think he's got a lot more variety than people give him credit for having watched a lot of his matches.

I think there is a fight within for him whether to play the style he likes which is work the point around, something he has done when he played Crivoi and was comfortable on court, or play really aggressive tennis which is necessary to beat Fernando or to win anything big really.
